How is Romfo's arm strength, is it similar to Tommy where we will likely see more shorter passes? Curious if he will be similar to Tommy but just more ability to run the ball. Hopefully he is just as good on not throwing picks.
-
Was it Wanzek who saved the day and made a great catch on that one?
-
With Q spending probably 90 percent of his time at TE and then just the short yardage stuff at QB, I probably don't want him there throwing passes. Unless he chucks it deep on a fly pattern or something like you were maybe getting at or something super basic. But wouldn't want him dropping back and throwing over the middle.
-
Agree. However unless as someone mentioned he could transfer somewhere before school starts and play this year, it's extremely puzzling why he would leave. Doing nothing and not practicing all fall won't improve him any. And as someone else said, I do think he would have played a little this year. Romfo may run more too, if he gets singed up Trey would have had his chance. I totally don't get him leaving now unless he has something in mind. We will find out soon enough I'm sure.

When Romfo was named starter, I got optimistically anxious to see what the underdog could do. But now I am more anxious/nervous, because if Romfo doesn't look good as the starter and the OC incorrectly chose Romfo over Feeney.....it's a pretty big mistake that cost us. Think it kind of amps up the pressure just a little for both Romfo and the OC.
-
They didn't want him out of HS...not sure they how much they'd be jumping for joy to take him after getting beat out by a PWO. Not that they wouldn't take him for depth purposes....but not sure they would do it thinking he is their next 'Dude' at QB. But hey they did want our OC so you never know
-
Maybe that is his plan then, go somewhere where he can still play this year. Otherwise seems like would have made sense to stay put, Romfo could struggle and Trey would have been next. While it does suck that he is transferring, he was going to transfer anyway...so might as well get Jerry more reps and get him in some games this year.

In reading the SIU write up....Nic Baker was 5'8.....so Romfo should be able to manage at 5'11. Hopefully it's a legit 5'11.

We might have caught a break Landry went to SU, time will tell. OC seems to be pretty genuine and tells it like it is. Also interesting on the 360 podcast was that the new OL coach was running some different run blocking schemes sometimes, if I caught that right. Definitely super excited, but also nervous as hell to see how the new offense will look.
-
We never really saw Feeney at all last year, unfortunately. He only got in when it was well past garbage time. When that Northern Iowa game was going the way it was, it seems like someone should have come in earlier than the 4th quarter to see if could create a spark.

I'm not saying it is a bad thing, but back in January who would have guessed.....everyone was wondering.....will it be Jerry or Trey. New OC didn't recruit any of them so his mind was as wide open as it could be. Romfo has been nothing but a winner, actually kind of excited about the underdog. If he has a strong enough arm and is accurate enough.....and with his running capability.....could be fun to watch. Hopefully it's not a sign of the OC thinking our OL is too young and inexperienced that the QB will be running for his life so he thinks Romfo is the better option.

Only 2 upper classmen in the two deep on the OL. Welcome to the world of the Portal. I think, well and hope, last year was an anomaly in losing 3 starters. But wouldn't be surprised if one OL a year leaves, good OL are in such high demand. However if the program can continue to build......need to get like the SU's where they have really good lineman and they usually stick around as it's been proven they can still get drafted.

Who had Romfo as the starter on their 2024 Calendar year weird sh*t UND football bingo card?
-
7 wins is very doable with this 12 game situation schedule. 9 games is actually doable but doubt that will happen. Iowa State, SDSU and NDSU are three games that we won't win. Montana and USD we could pull off the upset and if we did that could be 9 wins, however I don't see 9 wins happening as we will lose one or two of those 50/50 games if not both, we know we will crap the bed on at least one of our road games. I haven't watched the UNDfootball360 podcast yet but I'll go with 7-5 and possibly squeek into the playoffs. So basically the same thing as we've been doing If the OL takes a big step back and it turns out we miss Tommy at QB.....then we are in for a rough year and might end up 5-7.
-
If I take off my Kelly Green glasses I move Montana to a 3 and USD to a 4. I think we are capable of winning those games at home though. Will need some Alerus Center love on those games. I think our fan base will be pretty pumped for those two games, especially the Montana game.

I would think the OC would be the primary and tell head coach who he thinks it should be but HC makes final decision. Saying that in this case because Bubba was defensive coach. If Fruend became head coach, I'm thinking he would be the main one, but OC would still of course give their input. In the end the HC always makes final decisions on who starts.

Hagen is #3 on this list https://www.si.com/college/fcs/projecting-top-25-most-impactful-fcs-football-transfers-in-2024?fbclid=IwY2xjawEtwwVleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHQOW-ktKXJZq-ZzUfjM-o1rtzN5FbQkfLL8IHF7URXcnlXiWSrd5xMLLUA_aem_1T_LNhDlJgkjK2ieOZJupA

The article does give me some optimism too about the Defensive. Man if we still had those 3 OL I think we could been cooking this year. Interesting take on thr QB, but I don't necessarily see it as a bad thing. Jerry is still relatively young, Trey has had some time in the program and when we first recruited him many thought he would be 'the guy'. Romfo just seems to be a winner and does what it takes to be successful. A good guy to have in the mix and I hope he sees more live action this year where he is running the full offense to see what he can do in a game situation....even if it's in mop up duty. Good questions and great article by Tom!

These new green tops.....with white pants and our green helmet....that's what I'm looking forward to seeing......that's ND football. I still like the all black look and the Grey helmet combination with things sometimes, but I miss seeing the traditional look of a nice clean green top with white pants.
-
Best looking green tops we've had in a while IMO. I'm guessing we will be breaking these out for the Montana game.
-
It moved but looked to me like he had his hand unde the ball and it didn't touch the ground. Would need a better slowmo angle to be sure either way. Agree though good chance may hsve gotten ruled incomplete though initially.

Unless Romfo is head and shoulders above the other two, I don't think he gets named as the starter and I do think him being a PWO vs what are thought of as more highly touted guys, does subconsciously play a factor in that even though it may not be fair. Since the new OC wasn't involved in recruiting any of them though he may be more open to it. If Romfo doesn't end up being the starter, at least if he gets in the could run the regular offense and have him throw some so the defenses couldn't just stack the box against him running only. If his passing is pretty close to on par with they other two, and he is a much better runner....might be hard to keep him off the field. If we are down by 20 at half in the first game and not looking great on offense I hope they give the next guy, or the next two guys a shot to see what they can do in a game.
