  1. I'm sure there are opposites of this, but seems like many of the more highly thought of recruits we've gotten.....never turned into true stars. Molberg, Cloud, Sammy Fort, Q....and many others that had an FBS walk on offers or were highly thought of. Not to diminish them as they did contribute but were never all conference type of players. Santiago, Oliveira, Wanzek, Belquist and a whole host of others that were not as highly thought of became big names for UND. Was Turner a big time recruit? Man we could use a guy like him at OLB again! That said, winning recruiting battles for guys with other quality FCS offers is a good thing!
  2. Looks like he likes to finish his blocks! Hopefully he can be both a blocking and receiving threat. Will the new OC involve the TE more....guess we'll see. Offense continues to add good guys, need some studs on defense now too! Great to see some positive news to end the week!
  3. The mental drain on coaches now days has to be exhausting. They now pretty much have to worry about making every single player happy 365 days a year. If I was a young college coach a couple years out of college, and planned on coaching as my life long profession, I'd probably honestly start thinking twice. I suppose at some point they kind of get used to it and just don't take kids decommitting or hitting the portal as personal anymore, they are probably getting numb to it.
  4. It's not, but it won't matter one bit to another school that wants him. Another school won't pass him up just because he decommitted from UND for no apparent reason. This is just SOP now days.
  5. Yep had seen those on his Twitter and is kinda what prompted my post. Looks like we were showing him a lot of love....but I guess it just wasn't enough.
  6. Seems like in today's day and age, even after they verbally commit, coaches need to continue to coddle them them on a daily basis so they don't start looking around.
  7. What position was he?
  8. Yeah top 7 definitely is surprising. However it's always easier to be harder on your own team at times. I mean I swear we allow 75 percent conversion percentage on defense on 3rd and 15 or more....but it's probably more like 40 percent
  9. I haven't looked as who we have all back and transferred in and I could be wrong but I don't think our OL will suck. Hoping some of the younger guys are good, just a little inexperienced and some of the transfers are decent. That said, there is no way we will be as good as we would have been if they stayed. If they had all stayed....I think we might have had the best offense we've had at the FCS level, assuming the OC and Trey/Jerry are the real deal. Hoping for more big plays down field this year.
  10. Think s lot of us have felt this way ever since the announcement Danny was going to SDSu. Landry doing what he did, Bubba getting an extension, losing 3 starting OL......just lots of turmoil in general makes it hard. The transfers on on both OL and DL provide some hope....but just don't know how they will pan out. OC may very well likely be a wash or who knows....could be a step forward.... especially if Trey or Jerry are the real deal. I think until we see what happens on August 31st.....many are trying to mentally prepare for the worst, but I think there is a chance we could still be pretty decent. Hard to get too excited right now, but I'm sure I will be come August 31st.
  11. We needed that!!
  12. https://medium.com/@Tannercastora/a-peek-behind-the-curtains-of-how-and-why-mark-gronowski-stuck-with-the-jackrabbits-a023846d5d6b?fbclid=IwY2xjawC7HYFleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHXZWvqnQECkAKqQl94QUf1NkYD8w5KOXqR_yVS1XxG0rcJ9dwsLTiJiY8A_aem_AWZFBNsoerizCICoaSFEo5StOXIx_irpGZzfzjVMcgyPTiGN-aZZP42sDJPGGYhKUxExRCRasAuo1KQlH2vNtNjg
  13. Or at this point....if you are any FCS school other than NDSU or SDSU. Haven't double checked but I think those are the only other two current FCS schools who have won a championship since 2010. 95% chance it is one of those two winning it again.
  14. Looks like he got an offer from Wyoming January 2023 and we offered him after that. 4 years of eligibility left which is nice. Didn't watch his entire hudl but he played both OL and DL is high school and looks like he can move pretty well for a big guy
  15. Sadly, I'm kinda thinking 50/50 would be an improvement!
  16. According to at least one....Jerry was ready to take over the team last year. Can you imagine what he'll do with a whole year under his belt. Whether it's Trey or Jerry, there will be some growing pains with a new starter and I'd expect more interceptions than Tommy had. However stronger arm and hopefully some more deep balls along with a QB that can potentially scramble for positive yards more often Im hoping more than offsets those initial growing pains. It will certainly be interesting to watch though how it all plays out after having the same starter for four years. Will we be missing Tommy.....or feel like Yes....now we are more explosive.
  17. A couple of things..... We lost in the first round last year at home. We had both important coaches and players leave. Other than our NDSU win we continually sh*t the bed in playoff games or big games. Many on this board think we will barely go 6-6 this year. So it's no surprise we are not rated on top 25, seems like should at least be getting some votes though. As someone else mentioned....pollsters are figuring out who and what we are. Frustrating as hell we are not at least a lock to be in Top 25 to start every year, that should be the minimum.... especially when a few of the teams on there....I've barely heard of. Preseason polls don't matter, but they also do matter. It's a lot harder to climb up in the rankings when you don't even start being ranked. After 6 games....and if a team goes 4-2 but one started out preseason at #10 and that same team started out not even ranked, if they played the exact same teams.....the team who started out ranked number 10 will undoubtedly be ranked higher after 6 weeks than the unranked team. That is why I continually say preseason rankings do..... and do not matter.
  18. Reminds me a little of Weah, short/stocky with some power and elusiveness.
  19. SIU might be the new UNI? Big, fast athletes that look like dudes....and knock off FBS teams therefore get a high ranking....but can't put it all together for a full season.
  20. https://herosports.com/fcs-football-2024-most-likely-fbs-wins-bzbz/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1o5TRBf7CSwU_RjkStQKaKwUm8um6NoPz0dFzU2Kf1hBP_2lrhPt8ustE_aem_AT5IrlIxdgqSee89Ey_u0wm0fEmNuEEMfrbvtMIAJzEtX4DBSSXXGdr_YQ6KdkuguEwn9YntJ3n9FnXvSti6pxjA Probably need a 2024 Non UND FCS thread but thought I'd put this here.
  21. I hate to be too positive on here, but with a night game and a full crowd that is pumped it's possible that we catch lightning in a bottle for 3 hours and pull off an upset. Could be a three score loss though too, but I'm not going to write this one off as a loss quite yet. May change after seeing how we look against Iowa State the week before.
  22. So we covered the cost of his tuition for a semester and got nothing out of it. If the coaches told him he wouldn't play that is one thing, but given our need to find safeties...what is the likelihood of that?
  23. I know other schools will lose guys too, we are not alone. Still sucks though. A good OL guy is probably the worst to lose, but a good OL probably has the most opportunities in the portal as every school is always looking for another good OL player.
  24. Hopefully we'll see Matt on the field some this fall.
  25. Crap....here we go... hopefully not too many.
