  1. To be fair to the question, Brock Trotter had his season ended in the REA when Smaby crushed him legally into the boards, but his Achilles was cut in the aftermath. As for Genoway, I'm sure all Sioux fans were pleased to see SCSU beat UAA Saturday on the strength of two Aaron Marvin goals.
  2. The Sioux are also winless in games when they've been outscored. Facts don't lie, man. On the bright side, they're undefeated when they score more than the opponent.
  3. Agree. They have had UND's number lately and I think it will be a very tough weekend.
  4. You and many here seem to think there's only one good team on the ice, and anything bad that happens to UND is obviously due to a Sioux screwup. News flash: sometimes the other guys are pretty good and the breaks make a difference in the outcome of the game. In this case, how the hell are you supposed to "create" a break like the puck going out of play but the refs not seeing it, with 30 seconds left, just before you score? Let Hak know, so he can pull that one out when he needs it next game. Also, going back a few weeks, how do you "create" a break like the refs calling a penalty on the opponent and inadvertently putting the Sioux down a man? Because it happened, and the league admitted it privately. When two good teams like Denver and UND, or Duluth and UND, go at it, sometimes those breaks will make a difference, and some of them you can't create. Not to worry, though, when the Sioux are doing well in the Spring, you'll be there as though you had been the whole way -- In Hak We Trust -- and in fact the Sioux will be better because everyone here bitched about them after they got jobbed.
  5. It sucks but I'm sure the team cares about it a lot more than the whiners here. They played hard and it didn't work out. Vandy was felt in all the lost faceoffs, which take a toll over the course of the game. You end up chasing the other team all night long. Add the puck in the netting to a list of odd things that have happened to the Sioux so far this year. Hopefully some of those breaks come back the other way later this season.
  6. Sioux need Canady, Massen and Fabian to get it deep and work the boards for 70 seconds, just to change the momentum.
  7. Sounds like the Sioux have plenty of jump and are moving the puck well also. Near miss for Zajac.

    SIOUX @ DULUTH

Couldn't see it, but it sounded like Eidsness played a heck of a game. And the team in front of him as well.
  9. I believe he was the captain of the Moose for part of his time there as well. He was doing the captain's job, anyway ... especially in the second, when the guy slashed his goalie. That kind of straight-up payment is what's missing from the college game. Guys would not take liberties if they knew punches were coming in return. Thanks to the Strib for posting the links. When I saw the tease, I was worried the clips would be embarrassing.

Hopefully they make the right decision for me.

    Sioux are outta gas.

    SIOUX vs SCSU

Sioux need a spark here or SC is going to put it away soon.

    SIOUX vs SCSU

Early in the second, shots were 24-7 Sioux, score 0-3.

    SIOUX vs SCSU

SC started to even up the play that period. Sioux still playing well. Dunn playing really well. Eids not perfect but he seems to be the #1 guy, at least tonight. Heck of a pass by Kristo in the last minute. He shoots a lot, but he passes well.

    SIOUX vs SCSU

Disagree. The Sioux need to get back to the physicality of the first period. SC doesn't like it.

    SIOUX vs SCSU

The refs did give the Sioux three straight PPs at the end of the period. Really unfortunate period for UND. All that jump, and down 2-0. Mario didn't score on his SH attempt, and Novak did.

    SIOUX vs SCSU

Actually Fienhage got caught on the criss-cross and a low-risk situation became high risk. He's played pretty well tonight but you would expect some mistakes. Unfortunately this one ended up in the net.

    SIOUX vs SCSU

As predicted, the refs are happy to call penalties tonight. Adam: You don't like that I didn't call a penalty last night? I'll show you penalty calls.

    Genoway

That wasn't a classic CFB, where the player is 3 feet from the boards and gets launched head first into the boards (like Bina). It looked to me like the kind of hit the league had in mind with the contact to the head emphasis. Unlike the Leddy hit, where a shoulder hit happened to make contact with the head, Marvin brought his arms and stick up and deliberately drove Genoway's head into the glass. Disappointing from a Warroad kid, especially so for Eades, I'd guess. I don't know what happens tonight. Based on the contact to the head emphasis, I'll be surprised if Marvin plays tonight. Either way, his number is etched into the green club's minds, and eventually he'll get his comeuppance. Whoever does it better be good though, because Marvin is a big strong boy. Where's the Zach Jones rageout when needed? (In fact, Jones may hop in his car and start driving to GF when he sees the replay of that hit.) I had thought the Sioux were not physical enough last night anyway; unfortunately the officials will be on high alert and any hitting will earn the penalty box.
  21. The Sioux might well be able to outskate SCSU, but why play that game when that's SCSU's best chance to win? What I'm suggesting is the Sioux take the body a bit more.
  22. We thrashed it around a bit in the game thread that night. Helgason hits and I think he's exactly the type of player they need there, not that I like it.
  23. The plusses were very obvious in high school. The defensive side was a huge question mark, though, as he didn't have to play in his own end very much on those powerhouse Edina teams. I was anxious for him to play in the USHL so he could learn to play defense. I haven't seen enough yet to have an opinion on how good he's gotten there.
  24. At this point for Fienhage, it seems like it will take an injury or losing stretch for him to get in, neither of which are desirable, but both of which are very possible. I agree that he looked tentative, but it's understandable given how little he's played. I don't think anyone can conclude the coaches have decided he can't play - he's just behind the other guys. It's unfortunate, but his career got sidetracked last year when the team struggled in the first half; to make the NCAA tournament, they had no margin for error, and couldn't work him in. Combined with Miller's emergence, which took another blueline spot, he was the odd man out. With a couple studs lined up for next year, it doesn't get any easier then either.
  25. You left out "unjustified" ...
