  1. I'd say your EWU score would be a good guide line as they were the only good BSC team last year.

BisonDan--Didn't the herd beat Mont (or State, I forget which?) at home like 20-10 this past season? Assuming home field is worth 3 - 7 pts (Fargodome maybe even more?) that's a somewhat close game then is it not? So, did SU simply have a down day that game or did Mont/St simply have their best game of the season since you said EW is the only good team in the BSC? If EW was the only "good team" in the BSC surely SU on their home field would of blown out an avg or mediocre team I would think? Either way, something's not adding up.
  2. If UND didn't have hockey (like NDSU), men's and women's basketball would be big-time winter attractions at UND and I probably would have season tickets.  But they aren't, so your question is not really relevant to the topic at hand.

And please don't try to talk about how expensive it is for people to go to basketball games.  Basketball is dirt cheap compared to hockey.

Bottom Line: More Winning = More Buzz = More Fans.

Agree. Back when UND was D-2 power attendance was fine, even when hockey was strong. Hoops is a bargain, like $7 for gen admission and $12 I think for reserved (?), season ticket a real good bargain. Heck most week night games you can get a free ticket at the Betty front entry from other fans. the big problem is students just don't go to hoops (even with last year's senior dominated/decent team) unless there's free pizza or we're playing NDSU or some big name non-conf school (albeit, rare at home).
  3. Where's Darrell when you need him? Joking as I don't think Brew should be fired, but I do feel this team has really dropped the ball in conference play. I thought the ladies looked like they didn't miss a beat from last year in the non conference this year but for whatever reason they have struggled  in conference.

Specifically their downfall has been their Big Sky play on the road. That's been their issue this year. They seem to start slow most games then have to dig out of a hole, have too many turnovers, inconsistent scoring from the starters, etc.
  4. I liked what I saw from Cashman in this game. I have been liking what he provides a lot more than Shanks lately. Better rebounder and does not seem to force his offensive game nearly as much as Shanks does.

You read my mind, thinking exact same thing the past few weeks. Shanks seems to get a bit excited and also looks to lack confidence at times, which negatively effects his play I think. I still like his future though.
  5. Hooker is clearly our best player, its not even close. My question is what does he have to do in his junior and senior season to get looks from the NBA and possibly being drafted? I think it is probably a long shot beings he doesn't have much height and probably isn't fast enough to overcome that. I just think it is interesting to think about.

Hooker is no doubt a nice player and certainly the best player for UND but his best/only shot at the pros will be overseas, certainly not the NBA (hopefully he proves us wrong, all the better for UND!). You make reference to his height; as Minnesota's Mr. Basketball 2 years ago I think what stopped him from going to a better/bigger college program was his height. Had he been 6'3" I'm not so sure he would of been available to UND.
  6. Because right now, USA and Canada are leaps and bounds more athletic, skilled, and physically stronger than the other countries. They aren't going to allow it until it is a more even playing field.

Probably a good point. Let's hope they catch up soon as I would really like to like women's hockey and hence go watch it.
  7. I saw today that Blais is like .500 overall in maybe 5 seasons at Neb-Omaha (although he did win 2 natties prior to that at UND), while Sanderlin is maybe the same overall or even less in 15 or so seasons at Duluth BUT he did grab the 1 natty in 2011 even though most recognize the Sioux were no doubt the best team in the land that season based upon a full season's sample (the true test). So, don't fire the UND Pres, instead fire Hakstol for his "mediocre" teams over the last 11 seasons and bring in Blais, Sanderlin, Eaves (he also got a natty in '06 I believe but not thinking he will this year, just a hunch),...whoever!

  8. UND can clinch the NCHC outright in front of 2nd place Miami and their fans this weekend

UND swept SCSU @ The Ralph while MIAMI split @ Denver this last weekend

    NCHC STANDINGS

    UND 47

    MIAMI 41

    UMD 36

    SCSU 31

Mia has already played 42 games (shows overall record above of 30-11-1)? I assume that should be 20-11-1 overall record?
  9. Roy sends McLeod out with 15 seconds left to take a run at Granlund right as the puck as dropped good to see Coyle step up and fight him then Landeskog punches Koivu by leaning over the barrier between benches. Hopefully some fines and suspensions coming for Roy and his dirty team.

I love hockey and the NHL (I might watch the T-Wolves on occasion but that's about the extent for the most part), believe me, but that's why it will forever in the U.S. stay #4 of the four major league sports, bush league/WWF stuff like that and maybe at worst a slap on the wrist.
  10. Why were the students kicked out for the fire Kelly sign?

I'm guessing cus the sign said fire Kelly, not that I agree the student(s) should be removed for that. Doesn't that kind of go against what college is about (open discussion, dialogue,...)?

  11. Shields only played a couple of minutes.   ???? ????

Agree, curious indeed. Thur night he came in and put up I believe a quick 6 pts, scoring inside and medium/outside range. Looked sharp. Then he leaves and believe he never got back in at all for the 2nd half. Today he didn't see many minutes at all. Jones' substitutions really baffles me sometimes.
  12. And the other one can barely see anything...Anderson

You know, I try to stay off the refs but parrot face Anderson I swear has it in for the Sioux. I realize one or two games doesn't prove much but you watch his calls here over a season or two and it's damn near blatant, it's a joke.
  13. I don't support it and believe it should be cut.  The lack of attendance indicates I'm not alone in this.

You know, I'm as liberated as any 50+ male can be. Over the many years I go to lady Sioux hoops games, love it. I coach youth girls soccer and watch the women's US team whenever I can. However, I've been to like 3 lady Sioux hockey games over the last decade (last game I went to was vs Min last year, big crowd) and I'm not sure I'll go again. While I follow them on-line and in the paper (great 2nd half surge this year) I just don't get into it. You know why? Hockey excites me cus it's BOTH fast AND physical (men's) but for some reason they don't allow checking (okay, I know they bump each other a bit) in women's hockey. Why not? It's women against women? Whenever I see a play near the boards I'm expecting a check and then nothing. I wish I could like it cus I like watching sport but not touch hockey.
  14. Is there a single thing he could have said that you wouldn't have made an attempt at ripping apart?  Seems like you just keep looking for reasons to beat a dead horse.

And he's coaching like a dead horse, not that I would beat him.
  15. While Brewster's team may be "underachieving", it's not by chance that term was selectively used (such as mediocre or poor, such as you could describe one team's season) to describe the women's teams season to date. Yes, the women's bar was much higher than the men's team coming in this season. The women hhowever, unlike the men's team, are still a good BSC team and should still make the BSC tourney and have that shot at making the dance. The men meanwhile won't even make the conf tourney so no shot at all.

  16. Instead of everyone complaining about the west regional being at Scheels Arena, how about we be happy it's 75 miles from Grand Forks, 4000+ Sioux fans will be able to attend vs.the usual 3-400 at some remote berg, huge home ice advantage for our team. Also the boys will be able to sleep in their own beds.

I hear you runaroundsioux and you make a point but my griping is purely selfish; I wanted to go but cus you're talking just a 5k seat arena I wasn't able to get a ticket (I was on line a 1/2 hour after sales opened but no tickets left). In 06 (?) I got tickets for it at the Ralph cus you had an arena that seats nearly 12K. Simple math when it comes to ticket availability.
  17. I got to thinking the other day; it's a shame that UND couldn't of bid/got Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls for the Western Regional. It's a hair closer to GF than the Twin Cities is and just as important it's only 235 miles from the Twin Cities and the large UND alumni base. The arena seats nearly 10,700 for ice hockey, doubling Scheel's Center capacity. I think it's safe to assume it would be darn near (if not) a sell-out there the way Sioux fans travel. I wonder if that was considered initially by UND as a site for their bid and, if so, if it was simply booked up for late March? Not sure either way but UND may want to consider it in the future.

  18. There's gonna be a lot of suitors that are gonna come a'calling at the end of the season I fear. The selfish side of me hopes that Drake stays for his senior year.

I think he will stay. Gotta think he would be a decent minor league player but questionable at NHL level (that's no insult), like a good number of UND stars over the years. Despite the number of Sioux that go on to play in the big show, a good number don't that were stars in their college days. I know it's easy to chase a $1/2M or more to sign but I'd rather be a big man on campus on a top college team year in year out playing in front of nearly 12K fans vs playing on some minor league team playing in front of 1/3 to 1/2 of that tops. We all have different values/priorities though, understood.
