  1. Add #5 Siouxnami. It was Pattyn I believe who got called for goalie interference behind the DU goal in the 1st period, how I don't know. Pattyn moved to get around the goalie (which he did) but the goalie leaned/reached out to touch Pattyn as he went by then he flops like he got hit by Pattn to get the freaking int call. Terrible officiating.

  2. I was at the game last night in 106, left corner from behind the goal, so a good view.  I saw the goal come up off it's moorings but then it popped right back down on it so no issue there.  Also, when the goal was scored, the Sioux player camped in front was not in the crease, nor did he interfere with the goalie.  So, exactly what was the official reason for disallowing the goal?  If it's interference with the goalie or the goal of it's moorings then the zebras blew despite having the replay option.

  3. It's interesting that we have two senior big men in both Calcaterra and Salmonson who I believe have not played a minute in the last 3 - 4 games minimum.  I thought Jones' plan, like many low/mid majors (like last year's team), was to build towards a senior laden team every few years so they're your starters or key contributors off the bench?  Yes, big men Shanks and Cashman are your future but they're just freshmen.  Poor judge in recruiting (I realize not everybody develops as hoped despite potential) if two senior big men can't even contribute off the bench or is Jones' simply building for the future and throwing out this season?

  4. Did anyone notice that Idalski tweeted a pic from the bench during the game. That's a little weird.

bang--Agree, that does seem very odd. Kind of hard to coach and be 100% into a game when you're Tweeting I would think?
  5. Meghan Lauck has got to be the most polite and friendly player on the court toward the opposition. Always smiling.

Agree, she helped a player get up today that she knocked over near half-court. Does seem like a nice/friendly player even in the heat of competition.

  6. So, any clue as to the attendance figures by individual games at the Xcel for the NSCC? You would think with the Goofers in it (home away from home game at the Ralph East) and 3 other Minn teams from within 90 min - 3 hours away minimum would be 8k - 10k fans a game. Hell, the Sioux would pack 5k fans minimum alone.

  7. I don't know how some people thought that just because it was Bemidji especially when they usually play UND pretty tough. Even watching that game you could see Bemidji had a lot more speed and better goaltending than some previous years their problem this year has been consistency. I'm still trying to figure out how bad they must have played last weekend to get swept by Lake Superior State.

I agree with Mafia Man. The Beavers beat us in game 1 this season and, as stated, they always seem to play us tough at the Ralph. I gotta think Lake Inferior State and Niagara were worst teams this season at the Ralph, let alone in the last decade.

Haha....kinda like your team is mostly Canadians, eh?

Well, duh, we're located just 75 minutes from the Canadian border! That aside though, take a look at the Fighting Sioux roster, numerous US stars/players--McIntyre, Parks, J Schmaltz, N Schmaltz, Poolman, LaDue, Ausmus, L Johnson, T Olson,St Clair, Panzarella, Poganski, Gaarder, Simonson, ...
  9. Not every UND fan lives in GF however a large portion who actively follow the team do.  This means a potential connecting flight for which we're talking $300-400 on top of the trip.  I consider myself a die-hard fan who would love to go to a Frozen Four to watch my team but I'd be lying if that amount didn't make me hesitate.

Also, UofMN enrollment is 48,000 this year, UND is 15,000. That's 3x the amount of "fans" graduating every single year that could very likely end up on the east coast within driving distance or a cheap flight to Philly and throw on a maroon and gold because their alma mater is in the Frozen Four.

I'm one to believe UND fans are more passionate than any other team's in the country but it boils down to a numbers game with population of the TC metro and enrollment numbers when you're talking about amount of fans. However, I do believe that 1 Sioux fan= about 4 Gopher fans, we just shoot for quality  :)

Well put In Hvn There Is No Beer.
  10. Yea it does, why does he even bring up age?

In Lucia's mind, the older you are the better you are I guess...or at least he likes to keep that excuse handy. The funny thing is Lucia probably passed on some of these guys.

Yah. To ref "veteran" status, fine, but to specifically count how many players are over age 21 is looking for excuses--typical.
  11. True but not true.  These current players most of them have been in college games for several years either JUCO or transfers so its not like they are freshmen plus Hooker, Antwi, Hobaugh, Benton, Salmonson, Calc, Tyler , DeReon have been around for several years.  The class of Huff, Anderson, Webb, Schuler and Brekke proved to be good D1 players at the mid major level and as we all know if not for injuries and less selfish play could have really been good. In fact these 5 as freshmen when 3 of them currently sit in the top 10 all time scoring for freshmen ( Huff, Webb, Schuler) could beat this team today easily.  I do agree the current teams puts more effort into their defense but they could not stop Huff and company from scoring a bunch.  The past 5 would be better at every position in my opinion except one would be close.

Nobody on this year's team is even close to Huff. Even on off-nights, Huff excelled at defense.
  12. I'd like to know why gas is still 1.99 in Grand Forks?

Good question??? So, you can get it at $1.75 a gln in Fargo and we're a qtr more! Typical of the GF market!
  13. Just wondering....why?  As a UND fan I would say sure, we definitely could have used him that next year.  As a hockey fan I don't think his decision was that bad.  I don't think an extra year of college would have catapulted him to NHL stardom.  Either way his skating ability was his downfall and he would have probably ended up going through the same minor league route.  At least he figured it out a year earlier I guess.

Yah, likely he would have had no better pro career either way but not NHL caliber I assume so as a non-hockey player but admittedly a huge Sioux fan if I was in his shoes I'd rather be a sr at UND with 12K adoring fans and a shot at a national title vs playing in front of I'm guessing a few thousand folks for nothing that really matter (okay, make some money) in the minors. That's just me though, others may think/value things differently--understood.
