  1. They also had either 4 or 5 posts on the weekend. It was a frustrating weekend to watch. As an MSU fan it's a pairwise killer and could come back to haunt us. On the flip side, it was encouraging to see how good they can be if they can start finishing. I know there was some concern that this would be a really down year after losing 7 guys, but I think it should be OK. It just might take a bit. I don't know when it will happen, but when the floodgates open there will be a lot of goals.

We've seen a couple of those slow start, should've won, experience will fix it, if only he could finish, years around here, too.  Hopefully the kids keep their chins up and keep outworking the opponents.  If so, we'll see you in the playoffs -

  2. If the Twins are to have any shot at this, they need to go 5-2 the rest of the way.

So, with last night's win, is it now 4-2?  If so, that starts to seem doable...

I'm sure it's all a setup to dramatically rip our guts out by dropping a game in extra innings, but it's still pretty cool to have this team in contention about to enter October.

  3. I'm actually going to the game in Fargo on Saturday night.  Will be a number of guys on the ice who are going to spend plenty of time in the NHL, and I'm anxious to watch.  Bought the same seats as I have for the Force, so the difference in the game should be very interesting!

I get that a lot of people will go to HS football on Friday when this game is at the Ralph, and people like me will take the opportunity to see it locally instead of dropping an extra $80 (gas and dinner) to go to GF, but I would still have expected there to be a decent turnout for this caliber of game.

  4. During Saturday's game, I went to buy some merchandise for my kid, only to find out that they don't sell merchandise.  I was told they did last year, but apparently the vendor backed out this year, or something like that.  I wonder how many other FCS venues don't sell merchandise?  Is that normal?  It seemed odd to me.

Also, is it even possible to buy an official UND football jersey?  All they had a Scheels was the black Nike 84 Hardin jerseys.  I realize the Adidas jerseys are new, but I'd like to think that a fan would be able to buy a current UND football jersey.

Speaking of Scheels, the new store is really nice, but I couldn't help but notice they have A LOT of Bison stuff in there.  If NDSU has infiltrated Grand Forks, then I shudder to think what's going on in the rest of the State.

I wonder if you and I asked the same customer service rep?  This sounds like exactly the same conversation my daughter and I had with the rep by the Club 42 stand at halftime last week.

  5. Yes, and I believe if your option of Nodaks is selected, I think that should be part of that nickname as well, as it would break it up a bit from just being the University of North Dakota Nodaks.

I find that to be far and away the most awkward sounding of the choices.

1st choice Rough Riders - unique to the NCAA and ties to ND.  I am bored by this choice, however, since it is used by so many teams in other leagues.

2nd choice Fighting Hawks - true, it's typical of the consultant's formula, but like others have mentioned, it has good logo possibilities. The safe pick.

3rd choice is North Stars - I think this is actually the best of the nicknames, but there's the whole former MN NHL team and trademark hindrances hanging out there.

4th choice is Nodaks - I really find this one awkward, but it's still a step above Sundogs.

Last is Sundogs - I can't find a quality about this name that I like.  It just sucks in every way, IMHO.

  6. Alumni (see: ScottM, me, et al) will use their "on file" email address with the UND Alumni Association. That's how they got that email to ScottM in the first place.

What I was thinking, too, but this seems to be registering on the list for the 3rd party polling software.  After I entered my stuff, it found me, and I just had to click to verify it was me.  Like I said, hopefully that's not necessary, but it wouldn't surprise me.

And just for the record, I have the email, postcard, etc. ;)

  7. Well, I got my handy-dandy voting reminder card the other day, to go with my handy-dandy eligibility email.  So let's get this done.

Ah, yes, but have verified your email address against the voting database?  It appears that unless you have one of the .edu addresses that you have to do this according to the link on page 5 of this thread...  I checked it out, and it found me and verified my information.  I can just see this being the next stupid technicality.

  8. Anyone ever purchase NHL Gamecenter?

curious on any thoughts also...want to somewhat follow the Flyers this season.

From Midcontinent its NHL Center Ice..

Really enjoyed it when I had it (Midco NHL Center Ice).  I haven't bought the last couple of years as I knew I wouldn't be home to watch enough games to justify it.  If you'll be around to make use of it, I highly recommend it.

  9. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/crime-and-courts/3841352-big-iron-means-big-spike-sex-trafficking-fargo

'Voice for the Captives says the average age of American prostitutes is between 12 and 14 years. Globally, the number of girls and women being trafficked grows by almost a million each year.'

Has had to be fixed by multiple outlets - "average age of entry into prostitution is between 12 and 14 years".  The Herald is just being as slow as the Forum in making the correction to the AP story...

  10. when you chase the other teams starting pitcher in the first inning, you expect good things.  When you own pitcher gets chased in the 2nd (and the reliever promptly gives up the grand slam), expectations go into the tank...
