They held the zone really well in the 3rd before that power play goal. You just kind of expected they were going to get rewarded eventually.

I'm anxious for this series. Given the defense is in tact, there shouldn't be an issue, even missing Brock and Nick, with a sweep. That said, what a crushing blow would it be to get a tie or loss in one of the games? BC got beat by OSU the other night... [shudders at the idea].
Would be a great time for Sanderson to get his first goal!

Last night's game was one of those "oh crap" games. Get to face the backup goalie, but only leading 1-0 when he takes a shot to the forehead and leaves the game. Gee, now you get to try to beat Lundquist when you had only gotten 1 past the backup... Glad Henrik wasn't in top form! He had some usual big stops, but still gave up 4

The picture on Fox College Sports isn't high definition though.
I had forgotten how spoiled we are with HD until this weekend. Watching the Sioux was rough on the eyes (but the horrible camera work didn't help either. I mean, we never saw Luke's goal go in on Saturday).

Glad to beat the Sharks after those last two "close, but not your night" games.

The only way I can explain it is to use a personal anecdote. I am a Duke fan living in Grand Forks, N.D. So what does that really mean? It means I am a Duke BASKETBALL fan. I couldn't care less about Duke football, baseball, or even lacrosse. So it is with many people around the region, and country, and dare I say world, with UND HOCKEY. They love UND hockey, and I do, too; there is a lot to like about our program, to say the least. But for many, they couldn't care less about UND's other sports programs, much less the school overall. Their connection is to one thing and one thing only -- hockey. And with that passion comes the adoration for the symbol that the UND hockey program has revered and held in the highest esteem more than any other program at UND. So it's reasonable that this would be the result. So be it. It is what it is.
Good analogy. Too bad we have to hate each other from this point forward - Go 'Heels!

It will catch on everywhere else before it catches on with the hockey fans.
I can't explain this, and I'm not trying to debate a "hockey only" mentality, but it certainly seems to be true. We had season football tickets this year for the first time, and there was much less Sioux apparel, and there were virtually no Sioux chants at the games, compared to hockey. When I've seen the basketball teams play the last couple years (men and women), also much less Sioux. Soccer was the same. At hockey games, however, it's Sioux here, Sioux there, Sioux everywhere. My point is that using the hockey crowd to gauge acceptance is going to skew your results.

Mariucci is still Olympic.
My bad - I thought they went through with this: http://www.startribune.com/gophers-abandoning-olympic-ice-sheet-at-mariucci/257438471/
Guess it was put "On hold" for the other upgrades.

I personally like the variety of ice surfaces and layouts in hockey. I think hockey should go the baseball route and allow even more variation. Just set the maximum and minimum parameters. Its fun to play on olympic sheets, nhl sheets, short sheets like the old DECC, and what not. I would like to see variation in lengths, widths, etc.
I can see your interest factor, but I have to disagree. To me, that's like saying you want a different size goal than the rest of the country - maybe St. Cloud should be 4" wider to keep proportions? (Mariucci would only be 2.5" wider, since they changed their ice size a couple years ago to add more empty seats). From another angle; You don't see different sized football fields in college than high school or the NFL. Can you imagine saying UND was going to build a new football stadium, but only make it 40 yards wide? Or to match the dimensions of the CFL field? Last objection would be that a sizable percentage of these kids are trying to play hockey at the next level, so why not let them prepare?

Zach Yon with the final goal in the shootout for the Force last night against Sioux Falls. The Force outshot SF badly (I remember it being about 43-25 at one point), but SF scored with the extra attacker with 25 seconds left to get to OT, then the shootout.
-
I only caught the last few minutes of the game last night after the Force game, but that was one heckuva ending! In the old days of 5 yard "inadvertent" facemask calls, I'm not sure A-Rog has the extra 10 yards in his arm to get that one to the end zone.

Blackhawks & Wild
Go Wild
Go Dubs
Nerve racking game! The Wild really needed that win, and got it
Dubs looked like the guy from last year again - some really big stops. The announcers were so biased, I thought we had the Blackhawks homers instead of the national broadcast. The lack of enthusiasm when Pomminville scored was exactly like listening the St. Cloud guys a couple weeks ago when the Sioux scored.

Glad places like Playmakers laughed it off - my bank account would take years to recover if all that stuff went to auction

For a game I had little interest in, the Ravens v Browns last night was quite entertaining - what a way for a game to end!

Not sure how I feel about Denver winning last night. I'm no Pats fan, but the idea of an undefeated season still appeals to me (plus, I'm really sick of the Dolphins being the only ones to do it).
Beating Atlanta is a quality win for the Vikes. I was surprised their defense held down the Falcons like that - bodes well for the rest of the season.
-
Cookus for NAU had a phenomenal year as well. Not that surprised. Hell, the two might even share national freshmen of the year honors. They're that good!
Fair enough - my homerism might've been showing a little bit
-
Kinda surprised Santiago had to share the freshie award. I would've thought he'd have that one out-right!

I think Gopher Rejects gives WAAAAYYY too much credit to Minnesota. Think about the talent playing for SCSU right now. Minny would be begging for those boys, at this point.
Point taken, but with the Jan Brady complex, I still think it fits. Plus, saying I prefer it to Husky Women isn't exactly saying much...

I would say that opinions differ, I think UND except for a short period of time in the third period, was the better team on Friday. The homer tv announcers were ranting and raving about UND's top line all night. UND lost some momentum when they got into penalty trouble. But for the most part, I think UND had the edge in Friday's game.
Saturday was a different story. They got behind early after a few fluky goals. I think UND's body language said they were happy to get the split. I was disappointed to see the black jersey's as well.
That being said, I don't think UND fans should be down. UND's young team hasn't scratched the surface yet. They're playing with 11 freshmen in the lineup. There's going to be growing pains. I don't know if any thought UND would be 10-2-2 after 14 games.
This ^^^.
The lack of clearing on the penalty kill during those penalty troubles was scary, but I would have to say UND won 2.5 periods Friday. Saturday, they didn't win any.

The husky women chant is stupid - I much prefer Gopher Rejects - but do you really expect to accomplish anything with this thread?

Fun fact: If you Google Map Banks' address, it's Gay 90's in downtown Minneapolis.
Nice! LOL!

.Ask any racer. Any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.

They will use whichever moniker they want (ND or FH). The nickname is immediately official, so they can go however they want. Knowing it's SCSU, they'll probably use the FH nickname in an attempt to censor the masses
Be one way to get people to boo when their own team is announced. Booing the name will sound like booing the players?

UND President Robert Kelley voted for Fighting Hawks in the last round, but said his No. 1 choice lost out early in the process.
11/18/15, 11:29 AMHahaha - I bet he was ticked to see Sundogs LAST in round 1

I agree with Cam on Friday. On Saturday, I would almost be tempted to put Matt back on the ice, esp if Tomek isn't 100%. I mean, just think back to last year and worries about if Zane went down - I'd like to keep Matt sharp up until you can all but rule him out from playing again this year, and the kid earned himself some playing time with his performance earlier this season.
