Quick question for you guys. How likely do you think it is that the Sun Dogs will be selected? I definitely hate the name, but Ive noticed that a lot of my friends on Facebook are voting for it (I clearly need new friends). Have you noticed a consensus of you r friends on FB voting for this option? Also, if you haven't googled Sun Dogs on Urban Dictionary it'll most likely change your mind about it if you're inclined to vote in that direction
I have none on my FB feed. Several NoDaks, 1 North Star. Not much else. My "friends" who embrace the bison are sure hoping for it, though.

Agreed about what you said about a very clear and specific logo.
I never said that the Sioux doesn't think about licensing revenues so not sure where the 2nd paragraph was referring to.
Just a general statement of my opinion to the masses, thus the separation.
Ha-ha, it's not all about you

I really don't think they would be much competition for UND athletics clothing. Especially considering I didn't know it existed until about 10 minutes ago.
I don't see the lack of imagination by one small company affecting UND's athletic department's imagination in producing and marketing their own Nodak brand.
I guess I'm still failing to really see how this affects the nickname being chosen. Not sure if the fast food restaurant analogy applies. McDonald's has built a brand that's known worldwide. This small company does not have that sort of reach or brand equity, obviously.
What it says to me, is that UND would need a very clear and specific logo. there are already all these NoDak companies, including clothing, so to generate licensing revenue, the logo will need to be original and specific.
And, yes, I do think the school thinks about licensing revenues. My ex-wife sold licensed apparel for a company in the area back when we were still married (counted GF Scheels and the UND Bookstore, pre B&N, as clients), and licensing was a nightmare for Sioux goods. The school will want the same controls on the new logo, I'm sure.

Torts is back behind the bench in Columbus
I can't believe Columbus has to give up a 2nd round pick for him, just because the hire was "in season". Ridiculous.

A run-off between Roughriders and Nodaks. The run-off will be won by Roughriders, largely due to Nodaks not being defined. Since no one knows what it is, or how to define it (in terms of a sports team and logo), many will pick the familiar logo options of Teddy or a horse. Others will now say that being undefined is what makes it appealing, but I'm not debating, just predicting
And North Stars is still the best name, IMHO!

...But with Sundogs, it would be a bleak, pointless existence
You mean a bleak, pointless existence... WITH RAINBOWS!
We really need a sarcasm/smartalec font.

Voted for Roughriders,
but could support either of the two that seem destined for a run off. Of course, the SS.com sample is not representative ...
Right - 158 votes as of this post out of a possible 82,000 (are they still sticking to that number?) would mean we're only approaching a 0.2% size.
Two tenths of a percent is enough to call a presidential election for some news stations, but not for something as important as this!

Pizza is alright. I like the taco pizza a lot. The tacos, on the other hand, were awful both times I tried them = dry and bland. I haven't had their grinders yet, so no comment there.

Bresciani has a goal . . . that's all you really needed to say. That alone would be very confusing for the good people of SS.
True, we aren't used to hearing that out of Fargo...
Full Disclosure; I live in Fargo.

I'm not handing Matt a trophy, but once he settled down, he stopped everything he had to. What was it, 2 goals in first 4 shots? Then 17 straight stops. I'm not going to complain about an outing like that!
Plus, Drake apparently loves him - from the Forum:
“No one deserves it more than he does,” Caggiula said of Hrynkiw’s first career win. “He’s here every day early, stays late and works hard every day. When you talk about the North Dakota culture, he’s the first guy you think of on our team. He’s doing all the extra things. We wanted to win it for him.”
-
Seriously? You haven't seen the Nod!cks references?
As for logos - besides the interlocking letters and the hick farmer portrayed in the Forum, does not seem that there are a lot of options for Nodaks logos ... Maybe a lightbulb guy holding an electric shock.
Not it advocating it, but I am advocating it... Turn someone like Bennett Brien or someone with his talent loose and confident they can come up with something. That said, the Cedar Rapids Rough Ridets horse head has some wonderful possibilities, as does the Roosevelt profile. Turn Mr Brien loose and see what he can do with those.
My fear is that the logo will have an oil well, or something similar minded, if Nodak is chosen.

Pretty sure my wife will vote RR to offset my vote for Nodaks. We are both avid UND alumni and supporters of UND that can't agree on the name.
Haha - Yep, our house was Nodaks and North Stars. At least we didn't have to fight over Sundogs - we both hated that one!

I'd have to say Canuks sounds terrible (always felt it to be one of the worst nicknames in sports), but it rolls with Vancouver better than Nodaks does with University of North Dakota. But that's just my opinion
I don't think you can just expect the formalized version of the name to not be used. As mentioned above, it's going to be written on everything, used by national media, etc., and can't just be ignored.
On a side note; I'll probably always say Sioux until the end of time, so I totally agree with you there!
**edit - above was in reply to siouxfan512, but I seem to have goofed the quote**

So does UND maintain the top spot with a tie and a win? Omaha has been really hot.
I wonder that, too. Polls are silly right now, we all know that, but I still like to be able to say we're ranked #1
-
I only somewhat dislike Nodaks, but it comes down to this - please say each of the following out loud: Vancouver Canuks. University of North Dakota Nodaks. Hear the difference?

I agree. My dad has season tickets in the upper deck corner on the 3rd row on the end UND shoots twice at. Best place to watch the game.
We shared tickets in row c of 302 for a few years - that really is a great view!

According to Twitter, Forbort is finally going to make his NHL debut against he Wild. He'll be the last of the 2010 first rounders to get on the ice in the show.

Staying positive here!
With: Sioux win 11tybillion to Weber's 3
Without: Sioux win 10.9tybillion to Weber's 9
or Sioux win 23-20. You know, whatever works

Hak is busy in Phili. He can't run for governor right now
And don't suggest Blais, either!

Does Milbury understand the non-sense he just spouted? Using his logic, no FB or BB coach should go from college to the pros either.
Milbury is afraid that Hakstol might be successful in coming from the college ranks and what that would show.
Milbury is one of those "This is my opinion and everything else is wrong and that will never change" guys. Unless I agree with him, I almost always end up saying "what a prick!" when he's on.

We were way to spoiled when Corban Knight was here
Truth!
Pretty good numbers for Sanderson, though, in comparison to the rest. 62% isn't exactly bad...

think of the sponsorship, here's your Nodaks Mutual Scoring. Every time a goal is announced nodak mutual donates x amount of dollars to the scores for scholarship program.
I chuckled. But then was struck by the realization that with the abundance of companies using "Nodak" in their name, every announcement WOULD sound like a commercial
And then there were three....

I honestly expect a bigger voter turnout for this round. Knowing from the get-go there was most likely going to be a run-off, I think a lot of people let it slide if they found 2 - 4 of the names acceptable. Now that thing get real, and a name will be chosen, I expect more votes. Think of last week as the primary, and next week as the actual election.
