  1. Rivals doesn't list an offer from North Dakota, but does list interest from NDSU. But two separate articles months apart indicate offers from UND.

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Johnny-Peltz-136956

    http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-09-13/sports/ct-spt-0914-prep-foot-feature-1-20120913_1_wheaton-north-s-peltz-john-peltz-falcons

Fun is a word Peltz also repeated several times in a conversation about the situation, which is a statement itself considering the stronghold he took on the position last season.

A good athlete with a solid 6-foot-2 frame and a strong arm, Peltz was the best quarterback in one of the state's best conferences last season, throwing for 2,030 yards and 19 touchdowns to earn first-team All-DuPage Valley Conference honors and pick up a scholarship offer from North Dakota.

Yet breathing down his neck was a younger, taller (6-4), more heavily recruited player whom Peltz has made room for by spending approximately 40 percent of the Falcons' plays at receiver. A typical audition for a scholarship, this is not.

Peltz grew up in an athletic environment, with a mother, Nancy Swider-Peltz, who was a four-time Olympian and former world record holder in speed skating. Sister Nancy competed in the 2010 Vancouver games, while brother Jeff is training for the 2014 Olympics. Only his father, Jeff, a defensive line coach at Wheaton College, pushed the football agenda in the house.
  2. Just looked it up. The Summit League only has six teams (NDSU, SDSU, Omaha, W Ill, Fort Wayne, Oakland), so they almost have to add UND in baseball just to provide a cushion. The Summit League lost Oral Roberts and Southern Utah in that sport. Denver, USD, Kansas City, and IUPUI don't play baseball.

Senior Johnny Peltz was the starting quarterback at Wheaton North. Holding an offer from North Dakota, Peltz was a team captain as a junior and earned All-State and All-Area Honorable mention last year. It’s not often when two of the better signal-callers in the state are on the same football team and Thorson came back as a junior much better than the year before. He always had the physical tools, and he significantly improved his accuracy and command of the offense.

Wheaton (Ill.) North junior signal-caller Clayton Thorson’s story is unique.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Thorson added a scholarship from N.C. State on Monday. The Wolfpack joined Penn State, Northwestern, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana in extending an early scholarship to a young man that only took about 35 percent of the varsity snaps from under center.

  4. So with most of the Great West teams moving to the WAC, what will happen to UND baseball? It needs a conference home.

There's only four teams left: UND, Northern Colorado, NYIT, and NJIT.

UND needs to be in the Summit League or WAC for baseball.

  5. http://www.minotdailynews.com/page/content.detail/id/571498/Williston-State-star-Curtis-coveted-by-NCAA-Division-I-programs.html?nav=5016

The effort of former WSC coach Hunter Berg made the search easier for the Twin Cities-area standout. Berg, now the athletic director at WSC, kept in touch with Curtis and showed the sort of loyalty that helped him lean in the Tetons' direction.

The fact that Berg helped produce Division I guards the last two seasons didn't hurt, either. Blake Nash signed with South Florida before he transferred to Texas Tech and Luke Martinez transferred to Wyoming.

"I didn't even know where Williston State was," Curtis said. "But I wanted to play for someone that took the time in me, and I was intrigued that (WSC) produced D-I players."

  6. He's been recruited very hard by UNI as well. It would be nice to get him as an athlete and see where he fits in.

Neither UNI or NDSU have offered, but are just stringing him along to see who else they can get first.

  7. He already signed his letter of intent to UND back in Nov. No need to worry.....

Even a signed letter isn't necessarily a guarantee. Ahelegbee is showing continued support, especially with all the other big name schools poking around Tyus Jones.

Hopefully Quinton can be the hook to lure in some forwards.

  8. You don't really believe this is an issue do you?

He asked his dentist father specifically about Montana and talked about Montana's program and who knows what else. Normally, it wouldn't be an issue because nobody would ever find out, but this poster posted a synopsis of the conversation about recruiting and talking to his father on eGriz. Really really stupid. If he had talked to a more distant relative there wouldn't any questions, as the NCAA does not forbid that type of indirect contact. Talking to a parent = talking to a recruit.

The NCAA put Boise State on probation because one signed recruit who hadn't yet enrolled slept on another players' couch during pre-fall workouts, as the recruit couldn't afford an apartment or hotel for the interim time before he could move into a dorm. Boise State was found guilty of a recruit accepting gifts from another player.

The NCAA dish out punishment for flimsy documented violations just to punish the smaller schools - while huge violations at Ohio State and Miami are given punishments that should have amounted to death penalties in comparison to the loss of scholarships that Boise State had to endure. Nothing is proportional to the NCAA: Boise State should have lost a couch in the players lounge, not scholarships.

Don't we give money to UND through ticket sales? ;)

Yes, but any fan here, even if they live on either coast, is still a booster.
  9. I guess if he was someone the NCAA considered a booster and would have searched this guy out for the express reason of talking about his kid it could be an issue, but a casual conversation during an established relationship shouldn't be a problem.

Still, reading all those rules really makes you wonder how much innocent stuff could be considered wrongdoing, a high-level season ticket holder bumps into some random parent of a stud kid at a store and says "Hey, Bobby needs to come to Dipstick Tech" and that would be considered illegal? Scary stuff.

That fan is a booster, as his postings on eGriz would be proof according NCAA regs. Same with us: technically we are boosters just because we post here even if we give no money to UND . That type posting may actually prevent Montana coaches from contacting Shortell just to be safe. After all, Montana is already is under investigation by the NCAA.

  10. I don't think a fan talking to the father of a recruit and then talking about it on a non-university fansite is of any concern, it doesn't involve Montana at all.

NCAA regs specifically limit contact with a players' parents or guardians by fans. the fact that the U of Montana (or UND) didn't make contact, but a booster did (and a fan on a message board is a booster), makes Montana athletics potentially guilty in the eyes of the NCAA even though the Montana athletic department did nothing wrong.

  11. Quinton Hooker had 26 points last night.

    http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_22121786/shooter-now-rick-majerus-loved-st-paul

Park Center point guard Quinton Hooker, who is a leading candidate for the 2013 Mr. Basketball Minnesota honor, and Apple Valley point guard Tyus Jones, who is the favorite for the 2014 Mr. Basketball Minnesota Award, go against each other Saturday evening at Minnetonka in the Breakdown Tip-Off tournament. The pair comprised the backcourt for the Howard Pulley Panthers this summer.

Hooker, a senior, has signed with North Dakota. Jones, a junior, is still considering eight schools, including Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky, Kansas and Minnesota.

A couple of other tidbits from that article:

Gophers men's basketball coach Tubby Smith said he'll take the blame for overlooking South Dakota State point guard Nate Wolters, whom he didn't recruit out of St. Cloud Tech High.

Populous, the consulting firm the University of Minnesota hired to design a plan to improve Gophers athletic facilities, is expected to come up with a cost analysis this week. That would allow T. Denny Sanford, who is being cultivated as a multimillion-dollar benefactor, to know how much and where he could contribute.

Of late, though, there's been some buzz that Sanford might not be willing to give as much as the university has hoped he would.

  12. Yep, this is correct. I just don't know that UND would be looking to bring in a QB who's going to be a junior since we have 2 sophomores. I would think they would be looking for a senior transfer or juco to provide the needed depth depth.

They may be sophomores academically, but redshirt freshmen athletically. If he fits with the offensive scheme and his character meshes with the team and coaching staff, go after him. JC QB's too often don't work out.

  13. Good grief......most of us just don't care about hockey.....wtf is wrong with that. And......you guys get razzed about butthockey because many of the posters on here start the defense of UND having issues with that......So, you are bound to get grief about that.

Yeah, even bizon fans say all their other program have gone in the shi**er because NSU loses in everything else to UND. Heard from all kinds of NDSU that UND would be never ever get ahead of NDSU in athletics again. lol!!

Bet even you drank that koolaid, Wyo.

For UND fans, it isn't buttfootball but buttwereallydonotgiveashitaboutthebizon,

  14. I can't see UND leaving the BSC unless it had a guarantee in the MVFC. Plus the unfriendliness of Douple and Kelley may prevent UND from going to the SL anyways.

Never advocated UND leaving the Big Sky. Just was stating that the Summit still really badly wants us.

  15. A hypothetical:

You are the head coach, Coach A is a coordinator, and Coach B is a position coach on the same side of the ball as Coach A. You see, or should see that even though Coach B occupies a lower position on the staff, he is a future star in the profession. Do you 1) keep things as they are for the following season, knowing that may cause you to lose Coach B to a higher-paying job sooner; or 2) promote Coach B over Coach A, knowing that may cause some hard feelings?

Guess it's no coincidence that our running game sucks since this "Coach B" left.

Carey was never a coach under Lennon, as Lennon left after 2007. Carey arrived in 2008. Correct me if that is wrong.

Compher made it back to campus on time and after Doeren spoke to the team, the AD met with the players also. Months ago he decided the best candidate for the job was current offensive coordinator Rod Carey. He didn't tell the team that though. He wanted to hear what they were thinking first.

"I didn't ask them who they wanted, I asked them what they wanted in a coach," Compher said.

When the characteristics that came back were the ones Compher believed Carey, 41, possessed, he decided to move.

Across Saturday afternoon and evening, as word of Doeren leaving hit the media, the calls and texts began coming in torrents. Compher even noticed a few that kept signaling that maybe NIU did have a chance to get a berth into a BCS game. Under other circumstances, he would've been following every touchdown scored. This time he didn't have time to worry about it. Instead, a lengthy meeting was convened that included Compher, Carey and school president John G. Peters.

  17. A Western Illinois poster, who seems to be in the know, is claiming that Lindenwood will be the next school the Summit League adds. Thought Lindenwood just moved up to DII from NAIA. Wonder what DU will think about that?

    http://www.bisonvill...5935#post685935

Also says that the Summit League is still pushing to get UND, but the SL has an image problem. With Lindenwood having a women's hockey team, seems like the SL is trying to add hockey schools to pique UND's interest. Also says that oil is making UND even more attractive.
