Was a pretty full barn down in the BSA, but the sound system there is absolutely atrocious. They need to get their new arena up ASAP.
Thoughts
-We punched NDSU in the mouth right away, and for 38 out of 40 minutes the NDSU crowd sat on their hands. It was the UND fans making the most noise
-NDSU did scrap back, but everytime they seemed to make it close we would get a big bucket
-Getting Wall back is huge, she played some big minutes but you can tell she was a little out of game speed and was slightly frustrated. That will come in time
-We ruled on the boards tonight, but still had a couple of lapses
-Outside shooting was very solid when we needed it to be
-That was the Nicole Smart I am used to seeing, very solid
-Turnovers was still a little high
-Williams played very good D tonight, still had a few dumb TOs
-Evers played with a lot of good energy
-Buck had a very nice breakout performance
-The screens on D were killing us, we are somewhat fortunate that NDSU was not making shots, but they also seemed to get it a lot to the hole, which did not make Brew happy
Overall, THE best game of the year and they can build off of this performance. You can see how much these girls wanted that win
We need Wall to stay healthy. She gives more options to our
Offense. 1-0 with Wall.
If the guard play can develop further, will be interesting how high this team can go in the Big Sky.
To moderators: can a news story referencing this win be placed on front page?

That's been happening for more than a decade, thanks to Fargo U's Uncle Joe, who's long gone now.
Yeah, and UND has like six more sports. FU must really be squandering all their cash on gold plated football lockers, as well as good lawyers.

There are 3 major sports that we play NDSU in. First you have Men's basketball...UND is on top . We beat NDSU last year. Second you have Women's basketball.. UND is on top. UND beat NDSU too. Third you have Women's volleyball. UND is on top. We have beat NDSU twice in a row. Not bad since we just came out of transition and they have been out of transition for quite a while. There is one sport left to take them down in, but they are afraid to play us. We will get them when we play them in football too. UND is definitely on top in the series.
Even beat them in M&W cross country this fall.
They pissed away their head starts in all those sports.
Imagine the melt down if buttfootball fell back.

Tusler was named the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year on Tuesday.
(Bridgeport) Tusler, a key member of Osseo's defending state champion basketball team, scored 43 total touchdowns in his career. He finished with 2,260 yards rushing, 709 yards receiving and 12 interceptions. Oh, and he has a 3.6 grade point average. Tusler was both the Offensive Player of the Year and the Special Teams Player of the Year in the stacked Northwest Suburban Conference. Lamker said he has the best ball skills he's ever seen.
He also led all teams in the Twin Cities metro area with eight interceptions, rotating between cornerback and free safety. Primarily a running back, Tusler moved to wide receiver against Totino-Grace because of matchups. Both of Osseo's losses this season came to state champions.
But Tusler, whose hope is to play for his home state's university, doesn't have burning speed. The Gophers haven't offered him a scholarship. Rutgers has recently shown strong interest. North Dakota, Northern Iowa and South Dakota are other schools he's being recruited by, and if he picks a smaller college he'll consider playing both sports
WR, RB, FS, CB and star on Osseo's basketball team.
Went to same HS as Aaron Anderson.

There is no way this team is better without Huff and Traylor. Absurd for you people to truly believe that. A guy gets hurt, we stay in a close game, now we're starting a conversation such as "this team doesn't need Huff". You guys have know idea what basketball is. We can win the big sky without Huff in the lineup. Let's not forget we also beat a SDSU team last year at home, with Huff in the lineup. As far as Traylor...you guys are going to judge his talent and say we don't need him, because of a close game. Ludicrous!
Don't get your panties in a bunch, as I didn't say that. I asked the question if the team is more cohesive without him. Clearly it has less talent with both Huff and Traylor.

Doesn't your first and last statement contradict each other? FBS schools often recruit "athletes" but doesn't often pay off for them?....unless you meant to say. FCS
What I meant to say is that at the FBS level, it doesn't pay off immediately. A lot of coaches don't have time to wait, as their $1 + salaries are on the line. Many need the bulk of recruits ready to contribute as a freshman. If you look a recruit lists, there are multi-starred recruits that don't have a natural position. The coaches with a deeper talent list or more job security are more likely to take the risk. The Honey Badger didn't meet some of the physical requirements that LSU wanted, but his intangibles were off the charts (in more ways than one).
If Edwin Moses had never played football before when he was 18, but would like to try, would FBS schools would have turned down that speed? Also, some kids keep growing through college: FBS schools often won't look at them if there is a height issue. Not football, but David Robinson was 6'7" as a senior when he first began playing basketball. ACC schools wouldn't look at him, as he had no track record and was a raw talent. Five inches later, and the NBA was drooling.

If the new $120 + million Med School building gets approved and built on the Bronson property, where does women's soccer go? There's really not much land left on campus. Thought the rest of Bronson will be commercially developed. Maybe they could work with Valley Middle School or Lake Agassiz school or even Cushman Field, but those aren't convenient to campus. The women's soccer program is an embarassment as it is.

Never seen Nash play but why does everyone think he is such a savior. Has anybody ever looked at his stats? I have. He only averaged 10 pts per game for his junior college team (not D1). He shot 23% from 3 and only 44% from the line. Horrible numbers. He had 76 turnovers and only 51 assists. Next is Texas Tech where he only played 8 minutes a game for the worst team in the Big 12 and averaged only 2.5 pts/game. Shot 0% from 3 and only 28% from the free throw line. Again horrible numbers and he had 20 turnovers and only 2 assists. Yeah I would like to see him play but he has not had good numbers at either the JUCO level or D1 level. Yes he should help but he obviously needs work. Right now this team is playing hard and taking great shots for the most part. We lost by 30+ to this same team last year and less Huff we lost on a buzzer beater. These players are beginning to play better as a team than they have for the past 2 years. Players are stepping up and I am for one glad to see a better balance of shots and scoring. Schuler and others are stepping it up.
Don't think anyone sees him as an offensive weapon, as he's more of a defensive stopper that will be needed sometimes.
If Nash's appeal isn't granted, they should at least appeal for a sixth season. The NCAA makes up the rules as they go: any rule change is not ethical until next season. The NCAA protects its wealthier schools, and was just helping make a statement to prevent more departures at Texas Tech. Nash would win if he took it to court.

Do we really need to bring in "athletes" and not someone skilled and specialized at their position? We recruiting the practice squad?
FBS teams routinely bring in "athletes", bulks them up, and then find the right spot for them.
HS kids are often not skilled or specialized anyway. That's what college coaches are for. UND routinely redshirts freshmen, which is an ideal situation for project type situations. Every scholarship offer has a certain level of risk anyway: getting a few that don't quite meet the physical benchmarks for their position but has the quickness, attitude, and aptitude to learn often pays off at the FCS level, but not so much at FBS.

Feel horrible for Webb.
Didn't think we would win any of these four road games, and thought that this team would be demoralized. The loss doesn't help morale, but hopefully the team is starting to believe in themselves. I do now.

I too can't see the Alerus outbidding the Fargodome since our dome is smaller. Unless they guarantee UND hockey tickets for the NCAA.
Don't believe the venues bid. Most schools own their own venues. It's the AD that bids out of his own budget, and has to hope that he comes out ahead (or has money budgeted for a losing money on the game). In the case of UND and NDSU, they have to pay their venues for rent, as well as maybe getting a piece of the concession and parking revenue. It should be spelled out in the contracts. Wonder how much SDSU lost with their 4000+ tickets sold.

Jones brought in one of the best recruiting classes in school history. He will, at the very least, get the oppotunity to see this group of juniors graduate. If he doesn't make some noise with this group of guys, or leaves the cupboard dry once they're gone, then we can start talking hot seat.
While I know that many may not be aware of UND basketball history, this group is far from the best class ever. It's been the best class in a while, but that's not saying much.
When Jackson was playing, there were less than 200 schools in DI. Southern Illinois, with its legendary player Walt Frazier, was UND's nemesis in the playoffs. Louisiana Tech was also a problem for UND. When UND played DI teams like Villanova then, UND beat them handily.
In the 70's under Gunther, current DI schools like Old Dominion and Tenn-Chattanooga were the problem teams in the playoffs. UND had quards on those teams that could actually shoot from outside and from the free throw line. If the 3-pt shot had been in place, the scoring would have been phenomenal. At that time and even in the 80's and 90's, DI recruiting was not nearly as thorough, with Minnesota talent hardly even looked at except by the Gophers.
Even in the early 90's, the Elite Eight team UND assembled would have easily out muscled and out shot this group. Jacobson and McDermott (as an assistant coach) were part of that group.
Jerome Beasley just from 7 or 8 years ago was a high 2nd round pick. UND has no where near his type of talent, but his team could have used quicker guards like we have now. Just since UND's last run in the DII Elite Eight, there has been nearly 100 DII teams move to DI.
The bottom 100 teams in DI are not that good, and DII used to be much better than it is now.
The old Fieldhouse (now Hyslop) used to be packed for conference games and absolutely rocked during conference and NCAA playoffs. With bench seating, people were packed into there like sardines (granted, the average person then would be considered a thin person now).

He was a beast. Had maturity issues until he became a father. After that he was on his way to the Hall of Fame before those morons murdered him in his home.
We get one guy like that on D and all of a sudden every one of the players on defense has more of an edge and start playing faster and harder.
Last year, Hendrickson had passion that translated throughout the defense. The team this year badly missed Hendrickson's passion, not his raw talent, because it transformed the whole character of the defense. This year the defensive personality was passive.

They are both one bid leagues no matter how you slice it. Last year, the Summit as a conference had a higher RPI than the Big Sky yet Montana got a higher seed than South Dakota State. You are talking about the difference between a 13 and 14 seed or worse pretty much every year.
Was not at all advocating to join the Summit. Much prefer the Big Sky to even a Summit League/MVFC combo. Just think the Big Sky gives us more western exposure, has better TV deals, wouldn't feel like the old NCC, differentiates UND from our former NCC schools, and better connects with UND fans in the west. Really like the potential of rivalries with the Montana schools - it will just take time to build that up. As someone else said, we need to make our own path. I know NDSU and SDSU fans seem to ridicule that, but they used to be all in favor of the Big Sky.

The basketball team was terrible after Woodside graduated, we had one good player and a bunch of role players. We lost to ORU in the Summit tournament who was far better than us, same thing happened the next year but then we at least had young talented players with no experience. The loss to WIU though was bad, getting swept by them was worse but they were the hot team at the end of the season. I fully expect to be playing SDSU in the Summit title game this year, this team is starting to click.
Werner had three offers besides NDSU...I was told that from a solid source. UNI recruited Jacobson heavily and so did Creighton, other smaller schools backed off because he was very likely going to NDSU.
Last year, didn't NDSU also win a November tournament in the Bay Area and then never did anything substantial? The Canada trip in August probably helped that team a lot, as it has a couple weeks of off season practice and games. Later, as that early advantage was lost, NDSU lost its edge against other teams.
At this point, its hard to argue that the Summit isn't a better bb league than the Sky. One of the Summits cellar dwellers moved to the Sky, which balanced off the ORU loss and made the Sky worse. The Sky has had few wins over other D1 teams, while the Summit ha several. That said, when Wolters graduates an if Oakland leaves, the Summit RPI could have a big drop. In the Sky, schools other than Weber and Montana really need to pick it up.

I may agree with this idea of doing the "most with the least" thing had the player roster been assigned to the coaching staff rather than being hand picked by them. If the staff has the least talented team in the league, that is nobody's fault but their own.
Don't disagree with that at all. Just saying we need 10 starters next year that substantially outperform the previous years performance. Whether they come from upgraded performances, redshirt freshman, true freshman, or JC transfers, I would take allcomers that upgrade 2012's lineup.

Elon has probably the best player in the FCS. They aren't a more talented team than NDSU. Who will probably not have anyone drafted this season.
The "bizon" have good talent across the board. Montana State has good talent across the board. Not getting many(any) on a All-Conference team doesn't mean there is no talent. What it means is that there are 2 or 3 better players at that position elsewhere in the conference.
If UND has...for example the 4th best player at every position, are they less talented than...say...Idaho State who, in this example, has three second teamers, and a bunch of guys that are 5-15th best at their particular positions. I'd say no.
If you would have read my post more clearly, I said "draft choice, free agent, or camp invite" and over the next four years. Of course the Big Sky (or MVFC or CAA) is going to have very limited numbers drafted, but not so limited that have pro interest in them. So your saying that Marcus Williams won't be drafted in another year, contrary to all the other bizon posters, or that no bizon players will see pro scouting or training camps?
The Big Sky Honorable Mention list often goes four deep: so each position goes 6 deep with 1st and 2nd teams. If you don't have a starter on the honorable mention list, he is likely to be in the bottom half of the conference performance wise. A team with the vast majority of its starters in the bottom half talent wise, like UND, is not going to perform well unless they have at total manimal at QB, RB, or LB.
Jameer Jackson clearly has the ability to be a high level Big Sky performer, joining Hardin and Miller. But who else would anyone bet on from this team?

Conference teams are just the top teams in the conference slapping eachother on the backs. It has more to do with reputation (Montana) than production and skill.
The QB position in the most pivotal position on the team. When uND's QBs performed the best, UND won. When UND's QBs performed more poorly - in large part because the opponnts defense was a step faster or stronger than UND's line - UND lost.
The data I presented indicates that the talent gap betwee UND an MSU/EWU is enormous. Perhaps that is the real reason the uND was absolutely demolished by those two teams: EWU and MSU are simply more talented at nearly every matchup. Hanson never stood a chance, because every matchup in the trenches was overwhelmingly in EWU and MSU's favor.
So 20 different UND players are going to vastly exceed their 2012 performance? Don't buy that at all. Hanson (and Hendrickson) were key cogs in this years play, and without sustaining the QB play at that level, UND will be in for Weber St type 2013 season.

Theoretically, Team A could have literally....3 or 4 really great players, and the rest of the team could be complete garbage. Those 3 or 4 players make the All-Conference team. Team finishes 3-8.
Team B has 1 really great player, and is consistently pretty good throughout the rest of the lineup. Team finishes 8-3.
Which team is more talented?
The team that wins is the better team. The team with more talent hs better individual statistics and gets more NFL interest - whether as a draft choice, free agent, or camp invite.
So tell me, does it work that way in the MVFC?

Did UND have the least amount of talent in the Big Sky? Based on the first team and second team Big Sky list, UND had the fewest number, tying with Weber St. Even throwing in the Honorable Mentions, UND just barely exceeded Weber St. More Idaho State players were recognized for their play than UND players. By this measure, it seems possible that UND's coaching staff did the most with the least. Cal Poly also exceeded the performance of its standout athletes by finishing a several places higher in the standings. By contrast, Montana and Portland State did the least with the most.
Here's a list, with the first column the # of first teamer's, the second column the # of second teamer's, the third column the number of honorable mentions. The final column is a relative strength, with each 1st teamer getting 3 pts, a 2nd teamer 2 pts, and an honorable mention 1 pt. The higher the number, the more talent is on each team.

This talent rating system isn't scientific, but just for illustration of the relative strength of team talent, so don't get your panties in a bunch.
So did UND outperform it's talent? That would be a plus for the coaching staff. On the flip side, it would also indicate that UND recruiting is not going at all well.
Not surprisingly either that none of the secondary or linebackers received any votes. Moreover, Nelson and Brenneman will not be back, nor will the 3 senior offensive lineman, nor will Hanson, who were all honorable mention. So effectively, UND has the fewest # of stars returning (Hardin - listed for both WR and KR, and Miller for PK) as other teams have numerous underclassmen.
Other than WR and PK, at what positions will UND players significantly outperform the average Big Sky starter next year? Underclassmen on the OL may likely develop well, but defensively I just don't see the talent level approaching the Big Sky average even with another year of development under this coaching (or almost any coaching).
It seems apparent that UND needs its redshirt freshman and new recruits to outperform current starters, or that current underclassmen have major improvements, for UND to have any hope of being mid-level Big Sky next year. UND seems destined to have the least number of standouts in the Big Sky next year.

A head coaching job for football isn't just a Faison decisions, but also a decision that Kelley has to buy into: especially for a firing and the financial aspect. Mussman's contract includes all types of issues of the field: academics and suspension and criminal acts. By that mesure, Mussman has passes with flying colors.
If before the season, we were told UND's record would be the same as Montana's, I'm sure we would all take that.
So is UC Davis sacking their coach? Davis is by far the biggest disappointment, considering what they should be capable of.

Lynn Dorn, the women's AD, is a big part of the problem. Suspended for comments about a male athlete's privates and gets in public yelling matches with her coaches. She must have something on Taylor to keep her job.
