  1. Bob Eaglestaff on that Fort Yates team?

Fred Lukens too. Both were mainstays of the Sioux teams in the 70's.

Jogged my memory a bit. The superteam from Fort Yates with Eaglestaff and Lukens lost in the first round of the state tournament the next year(?) Jamestown, the team that beat them in the state first round, basically broke down and cried when they heard Fort Yates lost in the finals of the Southwest region for their first loss. Jamestown was expecting to be on the other side of the bracket. Fort Yates with Eaglestaff and Lukens was feared as a juggernaut.

  2. http://missoulian.com/sports/college/montana/football/griz-get-commitment-from-oregon-s-a-player-of-year/article_655b9240-6a78-11e2-99fc-0019bb2963f4.html

The verbals keep coming in for the Montana Grizzlies football team, including one from Oregon’s 6A defensive player of the year, Connor Strahm.

The website Northwest Elite Index broke the news that Strahm, a 6-foot-2, 215-pounder who helped Sheldon High in Eugene, Ore., to the 6A state title, had committed to the Griz Monday evening.

On Tuesday, Strahm, who could play outside linebacker or safety for the Griz, said Montana won out over scholarship offers from Portland State and North Dakota.

Matt Nelson, Cedar Rapids Xavier, 6-8, 240, two sport athlete (Football - TE, OL) + basketball

He has yet to pick up a football offer, but in addition to hearing from Iowa, he is being recruited by Iowa State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Oregon, and Kansas State.

Nelson is also a standout basketball player in the Class of 2014, currently averaging 14 points a game for Xavier. He currently holds offers from Rice, Northern Colorado, and South Dakota State. He is also receiving interest from Iowa, Wisconsin, and North Dakota.

  4. From what I have heard Brekke may be playing this Saturday, so the talk of medical red-shirt will be over. Doubt if he's in very good shape to give very many minutes but whatever he can give will be a help down low.

Brekke will transform the inside game if he can get back into game shape in another couple weeks.

  5. All from memory... A little shady.

    Grafton won it in 78, 85, 91, 02, 08

    North in 81, 82, 84, 012 (guessing in the 80's)

    South 94, 99, 06?

    Minot 92

All the rest central and red river

GPR has the most appearances all-time (passed central last year?) and hasn't missed a trip since 99

My math was off by 3 then. GFRR must have 14 championships.

Makes sense that GPR has most appearances. Although Park River by itself had appearances too, but guess those don't count. The state tournament needs GPR, otherwise attendance goes way down.

Davies will likely be the next school to win one for the first time. Maybe West Fargo Sheyenne whenever it opens. The Bismarck schools will be splitting again, so their chances will go down even further.

  6. NDSU sure seems susceptible to sexism and racism charges.

If you are of Hispanic heritage and a female, you get suspended for up to 20% of the season before actually being charged.

If you are black or white and a male on a national championship team, get just a hand slap even after conviction, including a certain player that resisted police arrest.

  7. Since you brought up the 7 less chances thing I have a question. Since Red River came to be who has won more titles Central or Red River?

Central has 25 and quite a few more than RR. This will be the 52nd year, so by arithmetic (and these are guesses)

    GPR - 4 ?

    FN - 3 ?

    FS - 2 ?

    Minot - 1

    51 + 1 (GFC and GFRR tied one year in 7 overtimes) - 10 -25 = 17 championships for GFRR , just a guess.

Since GFRR split off from GFC, it is essentially even.

  8. http://www.uscho.com...nkings/d-i-men/

Looking at the Latest Pairwise rankings, I looked at how future NCHC and Big 10 schools were doing this year. Here's what I found:

    2. Minnesota (Big10)

    3. Miami (NCHC)

    7. W. Michigan (NCHC)

    9. St. Cloud (NCHC)

    10. N. Dakota (NCHC)

    13. Denver (NCHC)

    t21. Neb. Omaha (NCHC)

    23. Wisconsin (Big10)

    24. Ohio St. (Big 10)

Can someone explain to me how the Big 10 is going to be a better than the NCHC??!!

    Can't forget Miami O.

  9. I believe the first time was 1981.

In 1981, much of the Devils Lake team was suspended for most of the hockey season. Due to a very poor record, Devils Lake was matched up with Central in a play-in game (there wasn't an East-West or North-South tournament). Devils Lake beat GFC in the play-in game and knocked GFC out of being a part of the state tournament for the first time ever.

Red River now has the most appearances, even though it had seven fewer chances than GFC.

  10. The media never would have pursued the case against the bizon football players so much if Gene Taylor had just admitted that what happened was a crime and deserved punishment / suspensions. A half game suspension during the Prairie View A&M game would have sufficed. Yet that PR genius Gene just kept waxing on about how these players didn't do anything seriously wrong and how persecuted they were. Yet the Attorney General and Secretary of State goes on about how serious these forgery charges were. Oh, the poor bison players, they can't help that they are stupid.

Bizon fans, pull your heads out of your asses just once and lay the blame for all the media attention with the person that made it 100 times worse: Gene Taylor. The arrogance from him is what got your program all kinds of media limelight, which was well deserved.

This whole event just shows how sensitive bizon fans are to charges that their football program has been corrupted. Its just not player stupidity, but administrative sensibility. UND's administration got an "A". NDSU's, specifically Taylor, got an "F" for both PR and ethics. Taylor created another black eye for NDSU football through his handling of the whole case, not the media.

  11. Bin,

You and other moderators simply do not have enough balls to deal with the problems on this board: banning.

Ban me if you want. Let this board officially become what it has become: Siouxsports discussed by bison fans.

I WOULD LIKE TO AVOID THE NEED TO CLOSE THIS THREAD.

  12. You'll never get it that you are the rude one. One or two messages a month would be fine, but you post here more than anyone with mronic stuff from a kid that doesn't know !@#$ about life. You are the neighbor that has no life of his own, so he parks himself at his neighbors drinking beer till 2 in the morning when they have been trying to get rid of him for 5 hours. Finally, blunt words have to be said to get rid of the interloper. You just have no social intelligence - its just amazing that you can't perceive you've overstayed your welcome: and how downright rude you are.

I had an easy job for Sanford this summer. I am a college kid. I answered phones for doctors who were working on a new computer system that Sanford(and most healthcare places) are implementing. I worked 11 hour shifts. For at least 7-8 of those hours, no one called, I had nothing to do. It was also a temp job until the doctors got more used to the new system. If there are any doctors who post on here who called complaining about the OneChart system at Sanford, decent chance you talked to me.

I am a teller at a bank that has a reputation that is less than stellar in the banking community. From what I have heard, the bank I work for has taken steps to get moving in the right direction. That is a part of life. Just like those involved in UND football, have a reputation working for something that is less than stellar. Perhaps UND will fix itself.

I had surgery a week ago and have nothing else to do other than Netlflix and video games. I also have plenty of friends and family who are UND fans. I am very active in how UND is doing in sports. It makes family/friend conversations much easier considering I love talking about sports.

Have I ever set myself up as some consultant for UND athletics? Nope. Just offered an opinion that is different than some peoples opinions. If there is no differences in opinion, or minor differences, message boards get very boring.

Your attitude is rude. Thanks Bye!

  13. Aren't you the same person that used to work at a hospital and post from computers there. Now you have a cush job at a bank that you badmouth on public forums, and set yourself up as some f****g sports consultant to UND atletics, when your own work habits basically prove you are a deadbeat. There hould be some rule here that any posting by you requires a $100 deposit to UND athletics just to get rid of all the drivel coming from you.

True, but with different schools you never know how things work.

These guys took a job that includes the public having a good view of what you are doing. I have a job at a bank, this bank does not have a great reputation. My dad has mentioned that to me many times that the place I work has had financial troubles. Should I blow up on him for not knowing every little detail of the bank? Nope. The bank has struggled. This is obvious to anyone. UND's football team has struggled lately. This is obvious to anyone.

2 of those losses against Big Sky teams were also complete buttwhoopings by two teams who were good, and one regular loss(4th quarter meltdown by looks of it?) to Cal Poly. Not something to be pleased about.

I'm going to get bashed I'm sure(being an NDSU fan and all), but UND has some work to do. I'm sure it will be fine at some point. Even if it is 5-10 years away ;)

  14. http://highschoolsports.oregonlive.com/news/article/7689312529072039661/all-state-football-thomas-tyner-connor-strahm-are-6a-players-of-the-year/

Sheldon senior safety Connor Strahm was voted as the Class 6A defensive player of the year. The 6-1, 210-pound Strahm, who also made the first team on offense at tight end, was the catalyst for a defense that held opponents to 13.4 points per game.

“He shines on offense, but to people that really understand football, he was just as valuable to us on defense,” Sheldon coach Lane Johnson said. “We use him at a lot of different spots on offense, and we do the same on defense. We try to get him in position to make plays, and he made a whole bunch of them.”

Strahm had two pivotal interceptions in Sheldon’s 13-6 win over Lake Oswego in the state final. He made a diving grab in the end zone to foil one threat and returned an interception 44 yards to set up a field goal.

Strahm has scholarship offers from Portland State, Montana and North Dakota but has not decided on a college.

  15. Green_Sioux:

May I suggest that you and your group post here more often. Your perspective and your friends is needed to counter the negativity. Fight fire with cooling water. As you said, discussion boards are a reality, and older more patient fans bring a perpective that is needed.

  16. Jones is 88-105 right now, and this is his seventh season. There have been three seasons with a record just over .500, one with an exactly .500 record and two with a sub-.500 record.

Jones is paid ridiculously low for a DI coach (under 80k ?). Not sure you can get anyone for that, except some young coach out of DII ranks. Isn't Idalski paid more than any coach but Hakstol?

  17. UND will likely be a decided underdog with all the following opponents (considering that the ISU game is in Pocatello).

    H Bowling Green

    @ Idaho State

    @Weber St

    H Montana

Could be 0-5 in the Big Sky before we know it.

The three home games after that are very winnable, but the team can't be disillusioned by then.

    H Montana St

    H E Wash

    H Portland St

  18. Freshman guard Makailah Dyer has informed University of Wisconsin women's basketball coach Bobbie Kelsey she has decided to transfer.

“She wanted to pursue an opportunity to have more playing time, to get more playing time,’’ Kelsey said Tuesday. “But it would be very difficult here because she is at a position where we have five other people. It wasn’t anything personal.

“The kids (on the team) loved her. She loved being in school here. But she wants to play.’’

Welcome Makaliah! (Troy Huff's cousin) Could use her right now.
