  1. That was a wake up call. Except for Munkeby, the hitters just did not hit. The SUU game was just too easy. They were looking at the Grand Canyon.
  2. Last year, with essentially the same team (i.e Braden Hanson), this squad did have offensive firepower. How is it possible to for it to regress so much. QB leadership? Coaching? Freshman QB? OL regress? If Mussman's insistence that two freshman QB would lead us to the promised land, that just goes to show how delusional Mussman is. There was opportunities to bring FBS QB transfers and it didn't happen. This team will likely never have as good of WR depth as it has now. Bring in somebody else to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
  3. http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=63905 Griz coaches and fans like the fact that they were picked third: gives them motivation from the lack of respect.
  4. IMHO, UND and Faison made an early mistake, as they were desperate to exit the WCHA with Denver, CC, UMD, and UNO, to not agree to special UND TV rights with Fox Sports as a regional entity prior to joining the NCHC. Those rights got assigned to the league and there is no way they can take them back once the league was established. Notre Dame refused to join the league because it knew it broadcast rights were worth a hell of a lot more (plus it didn't want to contaminate its good name with lesser school). It was right: Hockey East met every single one of Notre Dames demands. Denver also knew it Rocky Mountain regional tv rights would never be in jeopardy. You never hear a UND official or media acknowledge those issues. UND misplayed its hand.
  5. Thank you for your keen interest in UND. Converse over here and mock over on bisonvile.
  6. Miami sponsors women's synchronized skating as a varsity sport with scholarships. W Mich sponsors it as a club sport.
  7. Penn St plays in the CHA in women's hockey. There talk that Michigan will add women's hockey (Supposedly Red Berenson had been adamantly opposed) and then Mich St will follow. Six team B10. Look to Maryland. The WCHA survives by adding Lindenwood from the CHA. Women's hockey provides Olympians and Learfield Cup pts, which most women's sports would never do. The Englelstad 's $20 mill donation endows some women's scholarships among other things. It is here to stay.
  8. Just a few wins in the Middle Tenn tournament would have brought up to 70'ish. If we win out the B=Sky schedule (not likely) we may make 60ish. NDSU is dropping like a rock. Should end up in the 300's. That program is terminal. It would take a good coach years to ever get back to what they once were.
  9. He's from a small school, 50 kids per class, so definitely not an urban school.
  10. Do you know something? That would help get Minnesota bigs. Minnesota is a hot bed of D1, D2, D3 volleyball. Right now, Middle Tennessee, Tulane, and S Dakota are tentative at the Betty. I think Minnesota has formerly played at NDSU, but I could be wrong. Could have been the NCAAs too.
  11. When Trefz and Smed were seniors, Munkeby and Parlich were already apparent heir's to their thrones. Pioske is good and improving, and Robinson is very good at times (but up and down on shot accuracy), but two inches in height makes a difference in DI Volleyball. Thompson is the only one with height, and that seems why Ulrich has had limited playing time this year. Height can't be taught, and Munkeby and Parlich have that plus leadership qualities. This has to be the year to make some noise in the NCAA tournament, not with 5-10 outside hitters. Not taking anything away from defensive player or setters, but the name of the game is OH and MB with height and power. I honestly thought we would be 16-4 or 17-3 at this time, but I take 8-0 in BSC play. BTW, Pioske and Robinson seem to have outstanding verticals, so they can be outstanding OHs. But over 6'0 (or preferably 6'2) is worth a great deal.
  12. Better place to be then the Al.
  13. Can we send the bill for axing Mussman to SMU and Buning? It would only be fair. Why there wasn't a search the last time all falls on Buning.
  14. Thought PSU would pay back UND's comeback from 0-2 at UNC.
  15. Two road matches that are likely losses are NAU and PSU - the home court is quite an advantage. But this win likely means next year the Betty will host next years championships. But next year we lose Munnkeby and Parlich, so unless Thompson and Pioske continue to make improvements as outside hitters, we might not even make the tournament. It will be tough going though Portland to make the dance.
  16. In 2011, NDSU took in $2,000,000 in ticket sales in the entire department. The football budget is way more then $2 mill, as the team costs easily nore than $1 mill in scholarship and R&B. Teammakers contributions have to be totally ascribed to football, and everything else has to be total loss leaders.
  17. It is an endowment, but in a different form.
  18. “There is no FCS program that’s self-supporting, and my guess will ever be self-supporting. It’s just not the model that FCS will be able to withstand,” said Kyle Moats, the athletic director at Missouri State University.
  19. Of course. But even the changing of a football coach doesn't necessarily mean a winning coach. Bohl won because of recruiting classes 4-5years ago. This years recruiting class isn't going to turn UND's program on a dime with a new coach.
  20. UND will be kicked out of the Big Sky then. That's why Denver can not get in the Big Sky; because the Big Sky demands it. If you want UND athletics to be more profitable, go all the way and drop everything. Face it, we should be thankful for our unusual mix of sports. Bison fans mock it, but there football doesn't even run profitable. But all the Big Sky schools are envious of our revenue mix: that's exactly why we were invited. MAC schools can't generate the revenue we do except by student fees.
  21. NDSU doesn't make money from football, but UND hockey operates in the black (like Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma football), even with the expense of the REA. There are simply not many programs that operate in the black. The UND athletics financials don't include the expenses of running the REA (or the revenue from the many concerts, receptions, and other events they provide). When the REA becomes part of the UND athletics budget, UND's athletic budget will be much larger (Mountain West size). Dumping Mussman (guaranteed contract) and installing a new coach is going to make UND football even more of a money pit. If we are arguing what the best path for UND financially, keeping Mussman til his contract expires may be the cheapest option, as football tickets don't provide much.
  22. Att = 791 Don't draw well on Thursday night. Need nearly 2000 Saturday to maintain average of 1300 plus. With the win by PSU, PSU can tie UND for the lead with the rubber game in Portland.
  23. 3-0 UND.
  24. Park of the north side of the Betty. They open up the north doors after the game so its an easy walk.
  25. UND leading E Wash 2-0.
