Its kind of a fractured schedule for UND. The teams they lost to have 0 fcs losses, I believe. That is a good line. I am in the small group that thinks UND might beat MSU this weekend though.

I think people are a little too down on this teams chances this week. We have been in and had a chance against every team we played except EWU where Hanson was coming off an injury and it was just a bad game overall. Despite the Cal Poly score, we certainly could have won that game as well. Its not like those other games were against easy competition also. I think the game will be close and hopefully we have a chance to pull it out at the end.

The discussion has fractured between s tier system for football and that for basketball, which are two completely different animals. From a basketball perspective, winning a game at the dance or the thought of being in the Sweet 16 is far more appealing to me than winning a low level championship. I would be willing to bet that if you ask fans of Gonzaga or fans of the MVC teams the vast majority are would agree. From a football perspective, there are a lot more variables, but I would support playing at the highest level possible if the circumstances are right. From both perspectives, why didn't we just stay put in division II if our goal is to win a "national championship".

Herd has a point here. You take the NIT option if it is available, but only if you do not qualify for the big one. To put the question in reverse, would any team take an NIT invite over NCAA just because their odds of winning are improved?

I do not live in the area anymore, but I find it hard to believe that most NDSU fans feel this way. If they do, that is one powerful kool-aid that is being mixed. It shouldn't even be a question of whether you are an NDSU or UND fan. Its whether you acknowledge a rivalry exists and respect it. Of course you hate each other talk smack when you can, but at the very least you acknowledge it and realize it is bigger than either university.

+1 for most logical post. I think the average fan would cringe to think that a rivalry was cast aside because of one university's perceived "leverage". What happens when UND has a better season than NDSU? And this will happen maybe not this year, maybe not next, but it will happen. Will UND have proven themselves worthy or will they have too much leverage to schedule NDSU?

Agreed this is an opinion (as is mine), but I believe that is what this topic is about. If there was no opinion this would be an awfully boring forum topic.
