2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

In his defense, he was buried on the 4th line when he did play and didn’t touch the PP. Now, I’m not saying he should have a different role (based on practice results), just stating the obvious. Tough to do much on a bottom line. Tough deal all around because he’ll, most likely, be a solid college player at point. -

The guy had 64 in 60 last year, probably just wants to play. He most likely feels he’s getting slighted and he has the option of going elsewhere. Opens up a spot for us I suppose. I don’t fault the player the least bit, curious how this will impact recruiting going forward. I think this situation will happen a ton moving forward. -

I agree slightly. The idea used to be a combination of blue chips/really good true freshman and overagers. Now I’m wondering if it’s blue chips, transfers and then guys who know they won’t play and they’re fine with that. Younger skaters who are on the bubble will just go elsewhere in search of more PT -

I’m assuming he’s heading back to the ushl to finish the year. -

Makes sense to me. -
It’s insane to think that the same NTDP team that beat us and outshot the gophs (the next day) just got smoked by SF in the ushl and were outshot as well. Hockey is a funny game.

I have never seen either play. However, these are two very different leagues. As an example, K McInnis.
-
Agreed…def needs to head back to the BC. TBH, he never should have left after ‘21-22. He’s actually producing less than last year, which is strange. He isn’t that young but he’s def not getting drafted this year. Hopefully things turn around for him.

You guys are ahead

Glad the boys were ready to go tonight
-
Really wished they would have flip flopped Kunz and Louis…Kunz needs a look. He’s not a 4th line grinder. He’s got slow feed but with schmaltz and Perron, there would be some skill there.
-
This game they generated offense…a ton of it! They just can’t score. I dont know what was going on.
-
That felt like a loss to everyone (including the players that played).

Ya

Somethings off with these guys. And…they don’t understand how to play 3x3. Do they not watch NHL puck?
-
He had 4 pts in 29 games. It may have only been a last ditch look to see if he had anything.
-
At least. Unless you’re putting up video game numbers, no point in leaving for the pros that early. He’s still only 25 years old. As my uncle used to always say, if you can’t have a beer at the bar after practice with the fellas…stay in school.
-
T Jost put on waivers. Tough to see how his pro career has went along. He is the definition of a player that left college hockey (way) too early.
-
K McCinnis to the AJHL. Great for his development, USHL seemed to be a bit much for him. He’s young though. Also coming off a bad injury last year. It’s his draft year so heading north and having some success is huge for him.
-
He’ll be back with a school next season. I’ve always heard good things about him.
-
Looks like Spicer hopped on with Youngstown. Sounds like his deal was one particular incident…not necessarily flunking all his classes.
-
Major Junior is still a good route, you get 4 year of schooling covered when you’re done with hockey. But how many actually go back? Tough to finish that much schooling. NCAA path is the much better path. For both blue chips and everyone else.
-
I can’t think of anyone exceeding expectations…most are doing fine. There are a couple that seem to be struggling at the junior level again.
-
Looks like C Spicer is academically ineligible the second half of the year. No idea how you get yourself in that type of situation. There has to be more to the story. WHL id guess. Flunking out of UMD, especially as a hockey player, you’d almost have to try to flunk out. Impressive really.
-
Yep, he’s really good. Small though.
