I’ve been to Ann Arbor and have seen their facilities. Top tier. Better than ours?…no. But the campus and the city itself is unreal. Coupled with the big program environment (football, basketball etc) just a tough place to recruit against. Add in the fact Ann Arbor is 20 minutes away from Plymouth and that creates a whole new issue. Odds are stacked against us. But we get a few blue chips (typically local or former NHL/UND players kids) and we backfill with late bloomers and we do just fine.

No. Maybe here and there…but not like they do. They also have nice facilities, tradition, as well as some other things.

From a recruit standpoint, especially a Toronto kid, Michigan would make complete sense. Toronto is their territory…tough sell with the O being right there though. On paper, we just had a really nice recruiting year. Can we compete for blue chips the way Michigan does? No way. But we compete on the ice which is all that matters. There’s a few ways to recruit and Bubs and Co has picked it up recently.

He’s really small. Nice player obviously but HS hockey is deceiving.

It’s just what was reported.

Shocked Laurila didn’t get drafted. About as young as it gets I suppose and didn’t have a great role on that NTDP team. I’m assuming he has a great USHL season and gets drafted next year.

Sounds like there’s a medical issue with Emery that some teams were skittish about. Via EP Rinkside

Swanson went…good for him should’ve went earlier
-
They’re only drafting size now haha
-
Oh that’s right…forgot about Jost

When’s the last time we had two first rounders? Also, was the last F Boeser?
-
I recently saw a mock from an internet scout that had him going late second. But third isn’t out of the question. But more likely 5-7.

Sounds like that DU frosh from Finland that hit 20 goals last season signed…good for us
-
Haha, it has been a while since we had a blue chip F no? Perfect timing on your end In all seriousness, I really line almost all of our recruits coming in this year. Can’t wait for the season to start

I’ve always questioned Berg at C as he isn’t very rangy. I realize he’s ok at draws, but when you watch him he’s 100% a shoot first wing. I doubt he plays C after college. I think it really depends on if Omac improves at draws, that’ll give them more options. Side note, curious how Strinden shows up this year. He’s probably done more with less ice time than anyone on the team. -

I could eat my words but a 1st round center not playing center? I just don’t see that. Wilkie at W too? I do like the lineup though…I’d just move a lot of pieces around -
I have no idea

Agreed, but going back to Fargo would be an interesting option for him considering he just dominated that league, obviously the team shouldn’t be as heavy next season. If he were to come here (and that is a giant if), I’m guessing Hobie or TJ would need a new home. Puts them in a super tough spot. And the just posted numbers this morning. Again highly doubtful we’d entertain at this point.
-
Could we even carry 4? I think I remember it happening before however this is obviously a bit different.
-
That’s the way this should be assessed to be honest. How does it impact Hobie, because Heil could be two years away plus. I honestly don’t think it’s an issue to have both. I’m not entirely sold that Hobie can take the reins yet, but I doubt he wants to be third string. To me they’re two separate types of prospects. Hampton is a mid round NHL draft pick that (I believe) just won USHL goaltender of the year (albeit on a stacked team). Hobie struggled pretty bad in the ushl and went North. He looked ok last year. I’m just not sure you could pass on Hampton if that opportunity presented itself. You’d get him for at least three years.

Heil is probably going to have to play next year and at least the year after in the ushl. Until his numbers improve and he’s mastered the USHL. Hampton seems ready right now.
