Agreed. They have the horses, with a few more coming in. Just need them to show up more often.
-
The recruits coming in next year will be strong on D but a bit thin on Forward, as compared to past years. One thing to mention is that this year’s team had talent, as far as being talented recruits. Many of the players on this year’s team (and other Berry/late Hak teams) were very desirable recruits. Obviously some kids don’t pan out however we’ve had a bunch of underachievers the past two years outside of the obvious blue chippers. Motivations, readiness to play, etc are all valid questions at this point. JJ, hoff, adams, kawaguchi, etc, etc...many teams were after these guys.
-
So close? We didn’t make the tourney farthest away we’ve been in awhile.
-
Bingo. Again berry shouldn’t lose his job but to say sandy would have failed here is assanign. You would have to be a terrible coach to fail at UND. Time will tell if berry is the real deal head coach....he was a phenomenal assistant/associate. But Sandy is a great college head coach, no doubting that unless you’re fully biased.
-
Again, what Sandy has done AT Duluth is phenomenal. Berry obviously shouldn’t lose his job though.
-
What many people fail to realize are the recruits UND (the facilities and tradition) brings in inherently. I can’t stand when folks take one coach's record at one school and assume that’s what they’d be at UND. Had Sandy been offered the job at UND (prior to Hak) I truly doubt he would have had any losing seasons. Duluth was lucky to make the tourney, but that equaled the unluckiness they experienced earlier in the season with injuries. And here was that timeframe they had to send 5 players to the world juniors (honestly not too sure what their record was during the u20 though).

3 chip appearances in 8 years....two chip wins in that span. Tons of solid recruits coming in. I wouldn’t mock that program right now.
-
Berry is going now where, nor should he. But damn....sandy is hot. 3 title games in eight years, two chips. That’s nuts. Especially considering the resources. Not to mention they have a bunch of nice kids coming in and their team is still super young. Also, the ntdp u17 roster invites were announced and there are 4-5 UMD commits. Without doubt one of the best coaches in the Land.
-
From the looks of it UND may have been after ceulemans as well.
-
Interesting I must have missed the JT tweet. Good for him. yes that’s right...oilers are still in it.
-
If they go that high he has to. We’ll see if they get a U18 invite.
-
I agree
-
UMDs Forward group looks thin...what happened to Avery Peterson?
-
Looks like he only moved up one spot. Interesting though, a first rounder doesn’t play another year of juniors...not these days.
-
Levi Glasman may be one to keep an eye on. May be a decent overager in time. He’s a ‘99 also luke bast (Gabe’s younger brother). He’s a late 2000. Numbers are decent in the AJ.
-
Crazy, hopefully Kunz gets an invite
-
Danny was still interested in UND after grant committed. His commitment to MN happened slowly over time as he and Ryan became closer. Ryan was always following his brother.
-
This is false.
-
Yeah, my point was that Ryan and Danny were a package deal.
-
Agreed. Irmen too. When Blais turned down Grant he lost Ryan and Danny too.
-
No it wasn’t so they could play together at all, that happened later. Grant was not nearly as good as Ryan. Grant worked his way up to MN (even when Blais turned him down). Ryan was sought after from the time he was 13.
-
Owen power ‘02 to Michigan. Colossal get. Canadian kid, thought we may have had interest in him. Could bolt to CHL.

Good post, definitely depends on the situation/type of player. Spot on with Kunz however playing another year in GF won’t necessarily hurt him all that much. He’s an odd one, you almost have to treat him as a soph due to his birthdate. One other thing I would point out is when the player/team plan to have the player come to college. The days of even playing AA MN hockey and going to college the next year are almost unheard (middelstadt is the outlier these days). The gap between college hockey and high school is huge. In almost cases a player needs to play juniors prior to playing high end college hockey. I slightly disagree on the Donovan angle, I think a kid like that (who’s already played 4 years of high school hockey) should test himself at the next level. Duluth does play a decent schedule but definitely not a lake conference schedule. Biasedly, I want him to be more ready come his freshmen year. The kid has to want to do it however, can’t force those types of decisions.
-
NTDP is juniors....basically. So I guess I’m confused. When school becomes too easy they move kids up, or developed advanced classes. That’s what they have done with sports. Push kids and they become better.
-
No I get it. Biasedly, I’m hoping he pulls a Blake McLaughlin.
