He’ll be playing in the NHL as an 18 year old. He’d have to accelerate his schooling. i agree though, when he’s 17 there will be zero reason for him to not be playing against older kids/men. The WHL is looking way too easy for him. I could honestly see an Austen Matthews situation for him, go play in Switzerland for a year. I believe his dad played over there.

Completely agree. Titles have some luck to do with them…but the law of averages say a good team should get lucky every once in a while. I really like our coaching group…but the one concerning thing (recently) has been the lack of NCAA wins. I mean, dropping a FF game against a high end team is one thing…but consistently losing rd 1 games (when, in many cases, we’ve been the favorite) is getting a little frustrating. Just my 2 cents

Agreed, I’ve been waiting for that piece to his game from last year. In the year and one game that I’ve watched him, setup guy and his game have nothing to do with one another. He shoots every time the puck touches his stick in the ozone

As another poster pointed out, this year’s frosh class should be good. It’s the blueprint for how we should recruit. A couple blue chips, an offensive dynamo like Swanson who’ll play 3-4 years, and some decent overagers. We simply need to stay consistent with this approach. We need at least one 1st-3rd rd player every year. But youre right, good players like to play with good players.

Haha, I agree on the blend piece. I don’t really see it that way for overagers. To me the players in that category can be very good college players. Typically they’re simply late bloomers who were immature during their draft years. They either will go late or not at all.

completely agree. But in defense of others on this site, I really do think it’s somewhere in the middle. You just dropped one recent recruiting class . Some folks trend over the course of time. When rating recruiting, it’s important to define how a program is going to recruit. Blue chips, over agers, blend, etc

College playoffs are weird, one and done’s are tough. Look, I get as pissed as anyone when we get knocked out early. That shouldn’t happen with the teams we put together. But the entire group has to come together…and you need a good amount of luck unless you have a BC like squad (we don’t…and they still lost too). We’ve had some good teams recently but had some bad luck. We need to turn things around this year. I’d love another natty, but let’s start with an NCAA win first

If we are still in that upper echelon of programs…absolutely. If we start being competitive in the NCAAs, absolutely. We need to figure out a way to compete in some recruiting battles with blue chips. The landscape is changing quickly. But…Bubs is a great coach. Ive heard from advisors, scouts, etc. Berry is very respected in the hockey world.

Again, Berry hasn’t had Hak’s success. But I do think he’s a great coach. He’s a keeper.

Way more with less? Hakstol had wagons. Not sure if he was the primary recruiter for all those guys but his teams were stacked! Berry has had some nice seasons with success…just not the same success as Hak. The natty was awesome though!
