UND got into a hole early against UVU and despite taking a brief lead, couldn't hang on to win against an experienced UVU club. They continue their road swing against a familiar foe... the Bobcats of MSU. The Bobcats are coached by Brian Fish, who is in his 5th year and is looking to get the Bobcats trending back in the right direction. Things were looking good for the Cats two years ago, they looked like the term "1 year away" after 2016-17, despite the sudden upset against SUU in the BSC opener. It looked to be the case after they roared to a 4-0 start in BSC play last year. They looked ready to take that step. Then proceeded to lose 12 out the last 14 conference games and blew a 20+ lead against UND in the BSC opener.... Ooops Now, picked in the middle of the pack of the BSC and the last run of Tyler Hall, the Cats are looking to make one last run at glory. For Fish, they might have to, as the seat is starting to get warm for him as many in Bobcat nation are going, "How are we not contenders for the BSC crown this year despite having a POY candidate?" Player to watch: Tyler Hall The senior guard will no doubt end up as MSU's all-time leading scorer. Despite impressive numbers so far this year, they aren't as impressive as they were when he was a Sophomore. His 3 pointer and free throw percentage is down from last year currently, but he his playing tougher competition. He is someone that can go get 40 in a night if he has to, so UND needs to be on their best defensively. Milestone Watch: Connor Avants is now 33 points away from 1000 career points. If he can get a solid scoring night tonight, he might have a chance to do it at home on Saturday against Idaho. Key Questions 1) How will the posts outside of Avants respond after a rough game? 2) Can UND win the rebound battle? 3) Can UND get enough outside shooting if Moody is off? 4) Can UND get off to a better start? The Call: I expect UND to get the road win. I think Avants and Seales have another solid game and a bounce back performance from Rebraca with enough outside shooting from Moody to get the dub UND 77-71 Game is on Pluto TV!

I love Danny and I hope he is successful. But after 5 years... I need to see the changes to believe them. For Bubba's sake, he cant afford to be a miss.
-
Don't they have the 2nd coming in the AHL that could solve their goalie problems? Or are they still waiting

Odds are I won't get to watch this one live (family comes first), so someone else will have to carry the mantle for the live thread.

UND did what they needed to do again against an inferior non-D1 opponent, beating up on Concordia (NE). Now UND will turn its attention back on the road to take on an old Great West foe, Utah Valley. Utah Valley is coming off a 22 win campaign and a CBI appearance. They are picked 4th in the coaches and 3rd in the media in the preseason polls, so they are expected to a be a top team in the WACky WAC. This will be the first of two WAC opponents that UND plays this year, (they get UT Rio Grande Valley in a few weeks). They are coached by Mark Pope, who is in his 4th year at Utah Valley. These two teams played last year in GF, with UVU coming away with an OT victory, as they had difficulty stopping their 7 footer (who has since graduated). Numbers: 53 - number of points Avants needs to get to 1000 career points .753: Current free throw percentage of the entire team (keep that margin all year please!) Key player: Conner Toolson (6'4 Senior Guard) The Preseason 1st team all-WAC player has definitely been living up to the billing. His 3 point percentage is a little lower than his average, but he is one that can light it up. Shot it around 40% from 3 and 80% from the line last year, so he is due for that monster game. Be a good matchup for Cortez, or maybe Jal off the bench. X-Factor: Baylee Steel (6'11 Junior Forward) You are probably wondering why I am choosing him as the x-factor, someone who is averaging 6.7 ppg. Well it isn't the points that I am concern about, but his rebounding ability. He has already produced two double digit rebounding performances, including a 19 board performance against BYU. In that game, he also had 7 offensive rebounds. Bottom line, when he is in the game, you need to keep him off the boards. Keys to the Game: 1) Rebound the ball UND needs to have a good performance on the boards, prevent UVU from getting 2nd chances. You got some players who can rebound now, lets see them have good games on the boards. 2) How will UND handle the competition Its no secret that UND has had an uneven schedule to say the least, so we don't know how they will fare against like teams. Will they take that confidence that they have gain by pounding inferior opponent and translate it into success, or will this be a crashing back to reality moment for this young squad. 3) The Youth of UND I'm not so worried about the senior leaders, or so much Brown and Walter. How will the rest of the team handle playing probably a better opponent that Milwaukee. Rebraca has been solid, but this will be a good test to see how fast he is maturing. Will Jal or Marko have their breakthrough game? Can Davids be solid at the point and Moody shooting the ball lights out? The Call This would be a good win for UND to get on the road and could spur them to bigger and better things. I think out of this stretch of games, this will be the toughest matchup of the 5. I'm waiting for that one game where the youth shows up in full force and I am worried this might be the one where it does. If this was in GF, I would take UND... but since it is out in Utah, I think the more experienced team will take the win and defend their home court.. I hope I am wrong though UVU 79-74 Game is Free on WAC Digital Network: Link is here http://www.wacdigitalnetwork.com/

Good to know. At the very least, UND has some depth there in which they can do that. I don't think they would be doing that a year ago. -

I can understand that, save him for another year where they could be more competitive. At the same time though, you have that core of Marko, Filip, Moody, and Davids that you can have for the next 4 years. Throw Jal in there and let them grow together. Make mistakes, accomplish something right now. Plus Jal gives something UND hasn't had since Huff... a true 3. -
Disaster. Absolute disaster.

tied with 1:42 to go Had an 11 point lead 3 minutes ago. Woof

UND (3-1) vs Concordia (NE) (4-3) 11/20 7 PM

My thoughts on last night and my overall thinking of the squad so far: -Yes, I understand that most of the competition has been less than stellar and many are waiting to see how they will fare against actual D1 competition on a consistent basis. However, I am encouraged that they are crushing these teams and have very little moments where they have been lackadaisical. -Seniors were the story in this game, Avants and Seales were efficient (combined 16-24 from the field) and Avants had a nice night of stuffing the stat sheets, had 7 boards and 4 assists to go along with his 22 points. This team has solid leaders with these two, they just go out and put in a honest nights work on the court. The only complaint I have is this: Seales does not look comfortable shooting from 3 (comes out like a bullet) -While Jal came in with the most hype, as of right now Rebraca has been the most impactful newcomer to this squad. He continues to get better game after game and has been a solid addition to the starting lineup. Can shoot it from outside, can handle the ball in transition, and can suck up rebounds like a vacuum. I don't think this will the last double-double he gets this year. I hope he can put on 15 lbs of muscle and he will be a force. -Speaking of Jal: As many have said, he is RAW and freakishly athletic. While some have stated he should have redshirted, I will slightly disagree as I think he will be a more polished player as conference seasons rolls around. He just needs more game experience. You can see some flashes of what he is capable of, he just needs to put it together for a stretch or two and to stay on the floor a little bit longer. At the very least this year, I hope he can be a defensive force with this length and athleticism. -Davids has been alright, he has been steady at the point guard position. It doesn't seem that he is trying to do too much right now and to be honest, that is okay. Whether he or Billy will be returned to the bench once Marlon returns will be a question, but that will be a debate for another day. -Marko, out of the 4 newcomers that get significant minutes, is probably the one that needed to be redshirted. Still looks a little behind the curve compared to the other three. Has a nice stroke from 3 thought and from the line. -What the situation with Walter? Out for precaution? Injury serious or minor? -Brown had his best game in a UND uniform last night. I am seeing something different from him this year compared to his first two. He is a little more aggressive in taking it to the rim. That should bode well for him going forward. -We are about to learn more about this team over the next 5 game, as they are finally going to play some like competition consistently. This will give a better measure as to where this team is at. I'd like to see them get at least get 3 wins out of these next 5 games. -
Actually I'm surprised that many voted tbh.
