It will be a big game on the calendar. History says so. I agree.

It has been an intense rivalry, in part, because both schools have gone through cycles of dominance over the other. And, there have been upsets that have temporarily derailed the dominance. One difference is that football is NDSU's flagship program nationally, while hockey is UND's. It doesn't mean that each school can't find success in other sports. Add the proximity of the two schools and you have the perfect mixture for a great rivalry. Too bad we're not in the same conference, like in the NCC days.

It's a creation of the media. NDSU has been called the Alabama of the FCS. I don't know of anyone who believes the Bison would beat Alabama.

If you're into comparing apples to apples, then membership (and general board traffic) is a part of the equation. I don't know the numbers, and I'm not interested enough to look it up.

Both schools took the best options that were available at the time. The MVFC is good for NDSU. The BSC makes sense for UND. The Summit and the BSC are decent basketball conferences. In football, the travel is good for NDSU's fans. The wheels roll easily to the south and southeast. It's also a good recruiting footprint.

Then let the rivalry thing go. Get better and we'll meet in the playoffs sometime.

And UND fans have this to be proud of in football. The rivalry will resume someday. Would have been nice if the two schools had moved up to DI together within the same conference. Then there wouldn't be anymore foolish debating about whose fault it is.

The rivalry had peaks and valleys for both schools. That's why it was intense. NDSU has enjoyed much more success on the national level over the past half century. Younger UND fans are probably not aware of the number of times the Bison have either won the title, or came very close. Most Bison fans know that the crest we're riding right now can't last forever, but they expect to watch a very high caliber of football. That's really what Bison football is about - the caliber of play on a consistent basis. Isn't it kind of like that with UND hockey? Don't the fans expect to see a national contender on the ice every year? Nothing arrogant about that. It's a part of the history of the program. NDSU will enjoy its football program far into the future. People will expect big things. It's a part of the history of the program. I remember some outstanding Sioux football teams from the 70s. That was the best era of competition. There were some big upsets on both sides.

Stanford used to be the Indians. They changed it to Cardinal, as in the color, not the bird. They're the Stanford Cardinal. Thusly, the University of North Dakota Emerald. That is the shade of green used, right? Could also implement the image of an emerald somehow. Before you jump all over me, I've been supportive of keeping the Fighting Sioux for years. Have been very supportive of the fight. I understand the emotions behind all of this. That's my penny's worth. I cheered for UND in the Frozen Four, and even had a small party with family to watch it. The cheer would be "let's go Emerald," not the plural. I'm already ducking.

If/when UND gets into the FCS playoffs there will be a lot of excitement. If it turns into a deep playoff run or a national title it will be huge for UND, its players, and the fans.
