NIU finished top 25. Fresno was a talented pile of garbage. Tech was over rated coming off of their golden age with Crabtree.

With at best a bad offense the D had to be perfect to win those period. This year is different, we just need more time of possession to give the d a rest. A nice long drive will make a huge difference.

Northern Illinois was a pretty good team. Probably the best FBS teams we've played.

I agree he got too much blame. When you have no passing game to speak of It's tough to justify 4th and long. He should satisfy most fans this season since he has some talent to work with at QB.

Maybe Mussman is a 'behind closed doors' kind of coach like Belichick and gives the media absolutely no feel for what he or his team thinks/feels? Playing possum? To media 'Silly little UND going to play big bad SDSU, hopefully we can get a suntan out of the game....' To team 'We're going there for a business trip. We're gonna play our game and kick their ass and show everyone how good we are.'

One thing you must remember is how 'coached up' Bohl is as far as media and persona go. He's like a greasy politician from the south who will charm your pants off and make you forget where your tax dollars just went while he's on some island beach. He can charm like Bill Clinton. I do think Mussman could empower his team a little better even if to him it is bs. Public perception (confidence) can seep into a locker room and make a team believe just an ounce more, which could be the difference.

It's tough to get a feel for the amount of bs from the coach. There's no doubt some of what he says is bs but at the same time if you look at the match ups on paper there is legit reason for concern with size difference for instance.

Like a good coach should he is trying to scare his team into focusing for a 'lesser' opponent.

This week comes down to pass rush pass rush pass rush pass rush pass rush. If we don't kill their QB our DBs may be torched. Obviously the run defense needs to exist this week but I'm confident that Coach Mannausau will tear them a new you-know-what for playing defense like the 08 Lions.

I think the criticism that is valid is how conservative we are vs FBS teams. Maybe this year with a capable QB it will be a different story. Remember Northern Illinois finished top 25 and won a bowl and we had the ball at the end with a chance to win because Jake Landry could throw. Last year Joey(shoulda played D2) Bradley couldn't throw and the game plan was SUPER conservative. This year I bet they ride Hendricksons confidence and go for SDSU's throat. The difference between Bohl and Mussman in recent years is that Bohl had some talent to win with Mussman has finally gotten through the talentless wasteland that was left to him by Lennon. I say judge Mussman against FBS teams with this game and not the previous ones where he had teams with huge holes.
