Champions Club member don't get into the NDSU game for free. Ticket revenues for that alone  are more than WIH, including playoffs.

UND didn't play NDSU at home in 2016 if that are the numbers we are comparing.  Like I said you the pure not cost of WIH vs almost any other sport was reason for it to be cut.

UND averaged 1,009 paid attendance for their matches in that tournament compared to roughly 200 for WIH.  That's a pretty substantial difference in paid attendance.

Playing for a big sky championship is different than a first round WCHA playoff game  One and only time they have hosted.

VB also has the 3 home games that was apart of the BSC Tournament.

I agree that WIH deserved the ax based on total cost, but attendance was 35% higher (paid and unpaid) at Volleyball during the 2016 year.

    Volleyball - 17,433 (16 matches) - Avg. 1,090

    http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/w_volleyball_RB/2017/Attend.pdf

    Women's Ice Hockey - 15,344 (19 games) - Avg. 807

    http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/w_icehockey_rb/2018/attend.pdf

Keep in mind the WIH numbers include the 3 playoff games where fan's had to pay to get in.  Comparing apples to apples it would be about 912/game for WIH.  About 20% higher.  Not sure you could call volleyball the marquee women sport.  Also Volleyball attendance for this season is about 100/fan per game less this year then 2016.

Easy for Mike to spend and prioritize UND's money. Having a DI WH program that averages 200 fans a game and seldom made the playoffs did not contribute to having a premiere DI hockey program. UND is in full compliance with Title IX.

Don't think they ever had less than 200 fan a game.  Paid attendance maybe, i don't know where you would find those numbers.

Women’s Hockey never had the (paid)attendance that Volleyball or basketball gets. I think the women of those two sports would have something to say about hockey being the marquee women’s sport at UND.

Fake news.  Both programs let Champions club members in for Free with basically same attendance.  Women's hockey needed to go based on total cost.

It would be interesting to see the semester GPA's of each sport and the graduation rates of  each after 6 years......I know the BIG conference does this....maybe a conference requirement.....don't know...

I,would guess at UND the hockey  grad rates, at least......would be the least....outside of the few local kids on the team....most aren't here  for the education....exceptions of course"...you can find  exceptions in every measure....

I think you would be surprised by the number of kids that leave UND early, but come back and still graduate.  Helps with on-line classes.

  8. Would love to see the Current Betty used as the practice facility.  IMO it is not a D1 Arena.  Build a new arena to the West of the Betty between the Current Betty and Wellness Center.  I would involve some infestruction changes and would need to add parking to the south were the Tennis courts are.

The old Engelstad Arena produced 5 National Titles, the Hyslop Sports Center saw 3 women's national titles. I think housing them wouldn't have hurt the programs. Since 2001 when the REA opened, only 2 National Titles in UND's major sports, 2001-Football and 2016-hockey.

Pretty incredible to think 5 titles in 28 years of the old Ralph and 1 Tittle in 16 years of the new ralph.

So what logo will be on the next banner that gets hung from the rafters?  the Fighting Hawks logo or the "North Dakota" script.  Unfortunately, it would likely be the stupid script!!

Who pays for the Banners?  If REA pays for the Banners it will have the script.  If UND pays it will have the Hawk Logo.

So the interlocking ND would be used for the 59 and 63 banners while the Blackhawk logo would be for 80, 82, and 87. Geometric for 97 and 2000, then interlocking ND for 16. I wonder if people would be mad with the BB logo taken off a lot of banners.

    Mad would be an understatement.

Asking for a friend - so do opulant upgrades like this reduce the amount of money that the Foundation has to donate to UND for other things - like education. Is this an obvious move by KEM to demonstrate that she has money to donate but UND isn't going to get any of it until they bow to her whim?

I think this is fair.  I seems wasteful to replace things in the arena that are still in good shape.  I goes be back to Football Tickets paying for upgrades to the Ralph.  UND made a bad deal on the ticket split, but not sure they has much leverage.

However I don't see this as a KEM vs Kennedy thing.  The foundation has been doing this for years.  Long before Kennedy has been around.

Ok, in the last 40 years there have been roughly 3 years as bad or worse than this one - 91-94.  And those 3 years lead to the firing of a coach who led us to 3 National Championships. The point is that we are getting to a low point that is not what Sioux Hockey is all about.   And I did say "one of" not the worst.  By the way it is We North Dakota fans not Us North Dakota fans - do some grammar check.

It's not even February and you've already wrote the year of.   Remember first year of the Ralph.  That was bad.  91-94 was bad, but 94-96 was also not better than this year.  Many years when Dave was here we were in much worse shape.  THE SKY IS NOT FALLING.  Let the year play out.

He wasn't much more than a cheerleader at UND.  Better to swing a towel for Loyola last year than UND

UND drops one spot from where they started this weekend, sitting at #23 currently in the pairwise after the sweep. Everyone knew after last weekend it was going to take a monumental effort to get back into it.

I'm breaking this second half of the conference season into three separate parts:

Part 1: CC / @UNO -  3-0-1: A loss would be devastating, need to tread water, got what they needed this weekend.

Part 2: SCSU / @Denver / @WMU / UMD: 5-3 / 4-3-1: Two things need to happen, first, they can't get swept. Second, in one of these series they need to somehow sweep. I'd take 4-3-1 as well.

Part 3: @CC/UNO - 3-1: Split on the road, sweep at home

11-4-1 / 10-4-2 to finish out the year might seem unlikely, but I think it's doable. That should put them on the bubble.

Seems doable.  I would change it to sweep at UNO and split next 4weekends than finish 3-1 last 2 weekend.  They would make it a 11-5. finish than it just comes down to post season tourney.  Should be at home for first round if this happens.
