Do we really need a guy that played like he was wearing mittens and bolted from our program a year early bringing those skills and attitude to our team?

No.  He left.  Seemed like a good team player will here, but don't let the door hit you on way out.

that said it worked out well for him last year

They've won 7 of last 8.  Who's going to stop them next year?  No one.

Dumbest thing I've read all day.  Maybe they win it all next year maybe not.  It is a new team. Different players different coach different year.

If that was a complete game they are done for the year.  Shots on goal and puck control are not the stats used to win games.  If you can't score you don't win.  The better teams each night is the team that scores more goals.  Hate the expression better team lost.  If you don't capitalize on your opertunities it doesn't matter.  I wonder how long they work on shooting.  This team can't hit the corners.  Either miss the net or in middle of goalies chest

Did you not hear me? I’m a North Dakota fan. Love my state and the teams that play in it.

Many of us that are both. I’m a North Dakota fan regardless of school. Don’t get why that bugs folks

It's like being I Sioux hockey and gopher hockey fan.

  5. Regarding contract with ndsu it is as simple as win next year and it was a good deal, lose next year and it was a bad deal.  Thought when contract was signed we needed to win 1 of the 2.  UND is taking it in the shorts financially, but beating them in there own building makes it worth it.  Easiest way the knock ndsu down is to beat them.  The hype will continue until UND proves they can beat them.  Nothing changes until that happens.

Their recruiting success over us started back when we were DII and we haven't been able to overcome it

    • During DII - we offered half rides to 72 players where they were able to offer full rides.  Mertens told UND the deciding factor was the full ride at SU and Lennon wasn't willing to match that when the rest of the team was on half ride at max
    • When we went DI NDSU was through their transition and we lost some kids because they didn't want to play in a limbo situation for us - Veldman said he picked them because he needed to have something to play for
    • Since then they have been a juggernaut and are getting pretty much everyone they want.  I don't know how we break through that

Great kid, but we dodged a bullet there.  I was told he wanted to play QB, and UND wanted him on defense so he went to NDSU.

  7. We are at home, find a way to Sweep.  Anything less is a disappointment.  I'm guessing DU would be be happy with a split on the road.   Can't have them leave happy.

  8. Bison fan logic

The selection committee put MVFC all on one side of bracket because they want to avoid all MVFC championship.  They put all big sky team on one side of bracket because they want a big sky team in championship.

24 teams have at least one more week of practice.
16 teams have at least two more weeks of practice.

How important is that to a team?
Do those extra reps give a significant advantage to those teams in following seasons?

Or are all FCS teams allowed to practice while the FCS playoffs are happening?

I would say very very important.

    Don't think so.

    Nov. 2 Bye
    Nov. 9 at Weber State*
    Nov. 16 Northern Colorado*
    Nov. 23 Southern Utah*

So Basically the top 3 seed from this years playoff all on the road next year.  We have to have the toughest schedule in all of FCS next year.  If they can sneak into the playoffs they will be battle tested for sure.

As far as a 12th games either a  cupcake at home or just take the extra bye week.  Would be nice to have extra week off before heading to Eastern Washington.  Schedule is tough enough already that they don't need to add another FBS game.

Not sure how much they make on parking for hockey games, but I think I might do a study whether to just open up those lots for free, to keep more butts in the seats. With the apathy going around all sports, you don't want to give fans one more reason to stay home.

Not enough parking spots.  Even with free parking same people would need to walk from neighborhoods or take bus

Here's something regarding the atmosphere at the Ralph that hasn't been mentioned in this thread:

The fans of the University of North Dakota men's hockey team have an identity crisis.

Some fans will only participate in chants and cheers that have the word "Sioux" in them (Sioux Yeah Yeah, Fight On Sioux, Let's Go Sioux, Sioux Forever, etc.) and boo every "Fighting Hawks" usage they can.

Some fans are trying to move on from "Fighting Sioux", but there are no "Hawks" or "Fighting Hawks" chants or cheers for them to participate in.

We are all trying to exist in the same space and cheer for the same team, but we're definitely not all moving in the same direction or working together all of the time.

    Discuss. :)

    Dave

I think you are on to something, but eh Identity Crisis is across all sports.  Not really any Stadium wide Hawk Chants at any sport.

  13. Top two reasons for me Parking and Cost in that order.  Granted I still go to about 10 games a year.  I wonder if lower salaries and high cost of living lead to people not having the disposable money willing to spend $50/ticket on a hockey game.  I turned down free tickets for Saturday simple because by the time I get to the hockey game once football in done I will be parking far away.  With the game being on TV I plan on planting by butt on the couch from Start of Football game til the end of the Hockey game.

Parking is a joke.  There should be a big parking ramp next to the Ralph.  I have no interest on jumping on a bus to and from the game.

I realize you can purchase tickets outside the arena most of the time for under face value.  Problem is you take the risk of parking, walking up to the arena, not being able to get a ticket and having to walk back to your car.

What if we win on Saturday, the bracket above comes to fruition and then we beat UIW at home.  I know a lot of ifs, but who would be ready for that game?

Better to get our butts kicked in Fargo than sit on are butts at home.  Just need chip chair and chance.  I've heard way too much "would rather not make playoffs and get butts kicked."  Experience in playoffs would be great for returning players.  Coaching changes should have nothing to do with what happens Sunday morning
