  1. I know for a fact that 8 of them aren't UND students. There might only be one that's actually a student at UND to be honest. I just don't know if there's anything UND can do. They can try kick the one out of school, but I have a feeling it would be a fairly easy legal battle to put them right back in since this was done in their free time off of campus and technically didn't refer to UND at all. Don't get me wrong, UND has to try and think of something more than just saying sorry, but I don't think there's a whole lot they can do in this situation. This is a tough spot for them, which is probably why they haven't released a statement yet. Edit: I guess UND did release some sort of statement? I haven't seen it
  2. What's the University going to do though? They did nothing illegal, it was off campus and Spring Fest isn't a UND event. They didn't use a UND logo of any sort and basically none of them attend UND. I might be wrong, but I don't think UND can do much more than issue a statement basically saying sorry.
  3. Custom Ink made it and when the person who bought it saw it they laughed and said sure. You know, something almost anyone in their early 20's would do. The stuff I've seen from people 18-25, I would say (not an exaggeration) at least 90% have said this whole thing is stupid and is being blown way out of proportion. I've actually seen probably 50 people online saying they wanted to buy one and actually seen some people say they placed orders on online shops to have them made. The tweet about the knowing it would get them in trouble is why they chose not to wear them in public and around campus. The ones that did put the pictures online were doing it for their social media friends. They didn't think about other people seeing them, which obviously isn't smart and is what gets people into trouble a lot these days. Anything you put online is there for people to see and they didn't think about that. They didn't mean to offend anyone. Period. I do know though, you're entitled to your own opinion and I respect that. They just gotta live with the embarrassment and death threats for a couple weeks until it blows over
  4. I'm good friends with most of these people, in fact one of them is my best friend and she's been threatened so much she's scared to leave her house. She left a huge apology on Twitter and Facebook last night but had to delete both due to the amount of death threats she was receiving. The logo (which I personally think is the only bad part of the shirts) was designed by Custom Ink, not them. AFTER seeing how the shirts turned out they knew it wasn't a good idea to wear them anywhere else so they put them on in the morning, off-campus where they lived, and took some pictures together. They didn't wear them around and flaunt them in public. It was never their intention to offend anyone, it was college kids trying to make a fun shirt for Spring Fest while hanging out with each other. None of them are even remotely racist, in fact a few of them are part native. Let's just say that they've learned from it and they're beyond sorry. They've told me that it was a dumb mistake and that they had no idea anything like this would happen. There were actually a lot of kids on campus wearing very similar shirts that obviously aren't in the news at all. Never would have guessed it would be smarter to wear them in public than at your own place haha. I think the death threats are a bit outrageous, and with any luck all of those people will be arrested and prosecuted since all the messages are being handed over to police and most of them include the real names and everything of the people. I did spend all afternoon/night with them during spring fest, just not the morning while they were wearing the shirts, so if there are things you'd like to ask I might be able to answer them, but obviously I can't answer everything. This was NOT his twitter account. He deleted his on Sunday morning. This was someone who set up an impersonation account which is why the account is now banned.
  5. I actually agree with this. Rocco isn't NHL ready. He would spend AT LEAST one full year in the AHL. In reality, he would probably spend more than one year in the AHL. He'd be making a huge mistake not coming back to UND, and I'm sure he's smart enough to know that. The only way I see him leaving is if the Panthers truly tell him that he would benefit by playing with more skilled linemates and against better competition. That's literally the only way I see him go, and I find it unlikely.
  6. Colgate. They return just about their entire team.
  7. Some people call them that because they're the winningest program in college hockey history, they're the #1 rival of quite a few schools (hated, like the Yankees), and they get a lot of the players they want. They have by far the best TV contract in college hockey. They're tied for most National Title game appearances now too, with Michigan..? I think? If they're not the "Yankee's" of college hockey, they're pretty darn close.
  8. It probably won't happen at UND, but it could. I know when I was downtown at one of the bars before the UND-Minnesota game a few UND students were talking about burning couches in the streets and stuff if they had won. What makes it so much more likely at Minnesota is having such a large population of college students so close together. UND/Grand Forks just doesn't have anything near what Dinkytown does for close population like that. Plus, people come from other schools in the TC metro as well. I think only 5 of the 19 or whatever that were arrested on Saturday were actually UofM students. The others were all from other small schools. The Dinkytown "riots" weren't actually very bad this year. Spring Jam 2009 at the U had a much more violent riot. Or the 2002 and 2003 hockey national title riots. Look up Youtube videos of those, they damn near could have burnt Dinkytown all the way down to the ground if they wanted to (and damn near did). Either way, it's stupid. I'm all for getting a couple thousand students in the street to party and celebrate, but the ones that do the dumb s*** deserve to go to jail and be expelled from school.
  9. I think you can say it's a toss up between Michigan, Minnesota, UND, BC and BU for the top 5. BC obviously wouldn't have come close to being mentioned in this if not for the last 15 years or so, but what they've done in that time is astounding. I think I'd actually put Michigan, Minnesota and UND (In no particular order, because you can truly make arguments for all 3) as the top 3 historical programs with the two Boston schools right behind them. Wisconsin and Denver have some championships, but I just don't think they're as historical as the other 5. Just a personal opinion.
  10. Myself and three friends that are Gopher fans were watching here in GF and as soon as Minnesota won the faceoff we just started yelling "DUMP IT!" and "CLEAR IT!" Not one of us expected a rush to even happen. Just crazy.
  11. They're a clog it up kind of team. Those are the teams that give Minnesota and BC trouble. Rick Pizzo from BTN said a few weeks ago that Union is his pick to win it all and with the potential matchups that they have looming it's entirely possible. I feel like tomorrow's UND-UM game is going to be lower scoring. My guess is that UND is going to try slow the game down and clog everything up. That's how you beat this Minnesota team and one would assume Hakstol and company know that. That's how Wisconsin was able to beat Minnesota. If the game's a barn burner I don't think UND has as much of a chance, but hey, I've been wrong before.
  12. Either way, with a record of 24-9-2, I find it absolutely impossible that Holy Cross was ranked 54th out of 59 teams in the PWR, like it was stated above. Edit: I made it further into the thread and saw it was corrected. Carry on
  13. Haha he normally doesn't post like that. I'm guessing it was somewhat jokingly said, but either way, he's part of the US Military and has been serving over seas for awhile so you gotta cut the guy a break Most Gophers fans I've talked to have basically said the same thing. This UND team could easily be one of the best 4 seeds ever in the NCAA tournament. The only reason they're a 4 is because of the conferences struggle in non-conference games. Minnesota is definitely the better team, but UND is still good and in a one and done format anyone can win on any given day. Look at Yale last year. UND winning this game wouldn't be as big of an upset as some people seem to think, IMO. We've seen Minnesota play some pretty awful games this year, all it takes is one of those and UND could blow them away.
  14. I know it's a Minnesota viewpoint since the U made it, but it's still a pretty sweet video that can be used for this week.
  15. I didn't even hear a chant about UND to be honest. The only chants I heard were "Let's go Gophers", "Let's go Huskies", "Husky women" and "94 West!"
  16. That's interesting, I was sitting in the lower level Sunday and not once did I hear expletive nickname chants towards UND, let alone "echoing around" the Xcel.
  17. This should be a fun time on April 10! If Minnesota plays like they did against SCSU I think they'll get by UND with their overall depth and goaltending, but at the same time it's hard to say that because UND always seems to find ways to win. Gothberg is going to be the key for UND, IMO. He had a damn good regional weekend and if he plays like that he's going to keep UND in it and give them a chance to win. In a single elimination tournament anything can happen. I've been trying to think about it for awhile but you guys can probably tell me much easier. Has UND played a team as good as Minnesota is on offense and team defense this year? I was thinking and just wasn't too sure. As a Minnesota fan I feel like we have the better team, but I'm also concerned that Minnesota's youth can catch up to them at any time and they can make mistakes, which a team like UND or BC will make them pay for normally.
  18. Obviously the Big Ten used ticket sales for their numbers (as did the NCHC and every other conference). But I can tell you from being there that other than the two Thursday games, which was probably about 3,000-4,000 less than announced attendance (maybe 5,000 less for the PSU-Mich game), the numbers overall aren't that far off for the announced attendance of the other games. Did the X look empty, of course it did, because even with the numbers reported by the Big Ten it's still less than 50% capacity at the X.
  19. ....I don't know if I saw an Ohio State fan, actually . Other than the band. I only saw 2 Penn State fans. I saw about 20 older people wearing Iowa Hawkeyes (?!?!?) hockey jerseys. Very few Michigan State fans too. There were some Michigan fans but, as expected, it was mostly Minnesota and a pretty decent amount of Wisconsin.
  20. Next time around at the X should have higher attendance. I know a lot of people that said they weren't going this year just to show their disapproval for the separation of the WCHA. I didn't agree with their view because if Detroit miraculously gets higher attendance the B1G will more than likely keep it there starting in year 5. Club level at the X was pretty full for most of the tournament, though. Minnesota shouldn't have trouble with Robert Morris, but I did find it interesting they have the third best winning percentage in the country since the new year, behind only BC and Union. On January 1st Robert Morris was, I believe, 2-12-4 or something like that. I know they play in an awful conference, but a team playing good in college hockey can beat almost anyone during the time they're hot. Especially when Minnesota hasn't been playing too well recently. Shall be interesting
  21. Not necessarily. While they do still have the trapping tendencies they're still not as bad as they once were. Although if they do get up 2 goals chances are they'll be trapping. If UND gets passed Bucky, I fully expect they'll be in the Frozen Four. Bucky is no easy task though.
  22. I saw this post on GPL that was taken from USCHO (and now being passed on to SS ). Extremely unlikely that it happens. St Cloud is out in the following scenario: Mercyhurst defeats Robert Morris Ohio State defeats Michigan Cornell defeats Quinnipiac New Hampshire defeats Notre Dame Denver defeats North Dakota (3rd place game) Western Michigan defeats Miami Minnesota State defeats Alaska-Anchorage
  23. I'm pretty sure BC had a 1 seed locked up going into this past weekend no matter what happened. Minnesota is locked into the #1 overall seed and I think BC is locked into the #2 overall seed
