Any idea what Durfee’s story is?  Obviously flew under everybody’s radar. Was he hurt his senior year?  Play a bunch of sports so couldn’t get in team camps?  Anything else?

Here's the only relevant thing I found on his Twitter.  Judging by his posts, I wonder if he wasn't more interested in basketball and didn't really pursue college football until later.  No other offers posted on his Twitter.

Quarterback-turned-pass rusher Zach Durfee leads high-powered USF defense

Durfee was not on USF’s radar while playing at Dawson-Boyd High in Dawson, Minn. But he emailed the Cougar program, expressing his interest in playing football for them, and included a HUDL video of himself playing basketball. Ford and defensive line coach Luke Olson watched the basketball clips. And they loved what they saw......

He redshirted last year, and used it to put on 20 pounds in the weight room, while Olson taught him the basics in pass rush techniques. After another productive summer, coaches were excited to unleash their project this fall.

I understand that, but don’t you think at some point it’s possible to overdo it with transfers to the point where the identity of the team and the university it represents don’t fully align? If most of the key players on NDSU’s team were transfers that the coach brought with him or came in from other places, I would feel differently about the team I think. I’ve never viewed any transfer player differently than a player who’s been with the program from the start, but if the scales started tipping the other direction in terms of the ratio of transfers, I think I would feel different about the team.

They went 1-11 this year, so I'm not sure many people feel positively about the current squad.  If it's a 2-year turnover window with lots of transfers and a normal level of HS recruits, I think that's fine.  If it becomes a 5-year rotating door of transfers with minimum HS recruits, I'd feel differently.

I observed a UND player make a no look backhand pass behind our own net, ringing it around the boards, ending up right on the tape of the waiting St. Cloud D man at the blue line. Now the play didn’t result in a goal but it’s just one of many examples of careless play in our own zone.

And if I'm thinking of the same play, he had plenty of time as well. There was nobody from scsu near him.

Nice to see you have crawled out of your house after 2.4 years to “flatten the curve.”  Still masking up while you take a tub bath alone at home?

As what you would call a hawkzi, I don't mind the NODAK jerseys.  What I mind is the daughter of the coach who ordered the jerseys holding the trademark.

Give it to UND.  Say you would've done it sooner but forgot.  And let's move on.

And for tax purposes, the value of this charitable contribution is $0.

Maybe the disconnect is that I don't feel threatened by a word so much as the HAWKZIs are.....

I see the NODAK sweater more like the fun NBA city nickname jerseys or MLB Fauxbacks.

Not as a replacement of a nickname such as NODAKS... of which the University should have absolutely held onto the trademark for.

If Berry was all about money, why did he gift those scholarships to students last year?

I was responding to the post below.  I don't think Berry is all about money.  I think his daughter saw an opportunity and took it.  For his sake, I hope he was unaware.

You have to be kidding yourself if you think the Berry's are not making money off of this "Nodak" name.

I'd take a wait and see approach on that statement.

I wonder if there’s a loophole of some kind as the university can play it off as “NoDak Fighting Hawks” as it’s a shortened version of the state’s name. Certainly no trademark wizard but just curious as that’s such a publicly used moniker in the region.

If she actually tries to press UND on it, the university could argue NODAK is public domain as a shortening of North Dakota.
