Whoever came up with the $32.5 million number must've assumed reduced expenses or better returns.
-
If you assume a 5% return, $32.5 million gets you an annual budget of $1.625 million.

Possible? Sure. Likely? No. Also, it'd likely be robbing Peter to pay Paul, as the pool of potential donors of that size for UND isn't very big, so that $$ may have been donated for something else.

Sounds like he has a friend or family member on the team.

No, no, no... it's for the children.

I guess he changed his mind.... Welcome Quentin

And hundreds more watching around the world. Give those gals a raise!

I'm not advocating to use that money to save sports. Was simply pointing out we kind of almost learned from the 80s bust.
-
We did put billions in reserve funds this time. We're just refusing to use them.

You know nothing about Shanks. You've had inside basketball info in the past, but you don't have it for this situation. You're in a hole, now quit digging.
-
I'll trust Mr Vandalay when it comes to Shanks.

He did walk barefoot on frozen water.

It couldn't make the sport worse

If Schloss was of the opinion the Herald should report facts regarding the cuts instead of copied and pasted twitter rants, I would definitely be more supportive of him.

My primary issue with lacrosse is there aren't local high schools that sponsor it.

Not sure, looking at ticketmaster it appears around 4,500-5,000. Season tickets are $80-$95, not including any Champions Club $$. The vast majority of seats sold are in the $95 plus CC donation sections.

They truly believed UND was a hockey university, instead of a university with hockey.
-
Because they have the same amount of expenses?

I'm fine if they do it, as there is no incentive/reason for me to follow them on the twitter. They're just 2 people whose opinions mean no more than anyone else's on the issue, as far as I'm concerned. The annoying part is Schloss retweeting everything, so I've unfollowed him.

How much more right could UND have done it than a $2 million per year loss? And attendance was dropping.

In 2015, the legislature approved $166.4 million of state money for UND (not including $ for the med school or one-time projects) for July 2015 through June 2017. UND gave raises, filled positions, and committed to other expenses with the expectation that money would be there. Beyond that, Kelley had spread UND thin with new and expanded programs while not eliminating outdated programs. In January and July 2016, the Governor took back $15.4 million, leaving UND with $151 million. The budget for UND (not including the med school) for July 2017 through June 2019 approved by the Senate is $134.3 million, which is $7 million less than what UND received for the 2011-13 budget period. As for the comparisons to ndsu, ndsu can't cut sports because it's already at the minimum, but they are laying off faculty and administrators there too. Comparable funding for ndsu has dropped from $157.4 million to $147 million for 2015-17 and $129.8 million for 2017-19.
