All I know is I don't want Chaves hiring the next coach.
He hasn’t done too bad with the women’s basketball and volleyball coaches. Don’t know who hired the tennis coach.

Now begins the great QB drama in San Fran
From Mr Irrelevant to taking the starting job from the former #3 draft pick? Tough to argue with Purdy’s success, even if the 49ers didn’t win today. Is Lance now the #3 QB on the depth chart?

Yeah the 4 Dakota schools should be in the MAC or something
Missed the opportunity when the C-USA got hit during the last round. Should have banded together and been a northern (but autonomous) division of C-USA with the Montanas, Idaho, …

Gotta remember teams threw at will against us, thus the rushing yards statistic. Our pass rush was non existent, which was totally unexpected - that can change with one player.
That’s my point.

Rushing yards given up per game:
Nebraska - 244
UNI - 115
SIU - 148
YSU - 178
SDSU - 95
ACU - 122
INST - 126
USD - 97
NDSU - 363
Weber - 330
We gave up over 200 yards rushing 3 times. Nebraska, NDSU, Weber. Is it an issue? Sure. But it's not like we are giving up huge amounts on the ground every game. Yes, we gave up a bunch the last two weeks and to very good teams. Giving up 300+ rushing yards 2 weeks in a row is alarming. ut it was definitely not the trend all season. Not saying we can't improve, but not like we were awful at stopping the run all year.
With all the teeth-gnashing about UND’s run defense, these numbers are not so bad until the last 2 games. Even SDSU only had 95 yards on the ground.
It felt like the pass defense was weaker than the ground defense for most of the season.

I can 100% guarantee you that Grant would not take a gig at UND.
Pretty sure he would turn down a head coaching position and the opportunity to turn the program around, aren’t you, SlowHand? Well, given UND’s lazy AD and history of inbreeding, it will never happen anyway.

Why is it presumed that Danny wouldn't take the program in a new direction?
He's 20 some years younger than Bubba and is likely to think differently as a HC than as an OC.
I just think it’s time to start over.

So, Bubba is under contract for the next couple years. If he leaves voluntarily, it will be with a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that one of his staff takes the reigns, presumably Danny. The only way a change happens soon is under Bubba’s rules. There is no way that after getting an extension when UND missed the playoffs that he will be fired after making the playoffs. When Bubba leaves the program needs a total overhaul.
I think Oxbow floated this idea a couple months back, but UND should look 70 miles south and get Grant Olson before another program beats UND to him. It worked for Montana State when the hired Brent Vigen (after he followed Bohl to Wyoming).
I know Ira will defend Bubba and the coaching staff as he always does, but it really looks like Bubba has reached his ceiling. And even though Danny is very popular, it is time for new blood and a new direction for the program.

At kickoff, every home team is leading in the FCS playoffs. It’s up to UND to change that.
Go Hawks!

If we want to make a run in the playoffs we need to be able to beat good teams on the road. I don’t believe in our defense and I think we’re going to lose but I do think we can compete. I just want to see some anger in our team for once.
^^^this^^^
The playoffs have good teams (or at least that is the rumor).
Until UND gets a top seed, say top 4, they will be traveling for almost all playoff games.

This is rich- coming from a poster with more typos or poor spelling than most…
For example “taught” for “thought”.
Or even “your” for “you’re” in this post.
And what makes you think this is a Wildcat fan?
edit: thumbs up for the “you are” correction.

I filed a FOIA for UND's bids back in 2019. Below are UND's bids for each round. I didn't publicly post them because I didn't want other schools to see what UND was bidding, but it doesn't seem to matter and the schools probably know anyway. And they can easily file FOIA's themselves. Again, these are from 2019. Pretty sure the "bid" is on the last page, #9, titled "guarantee", which was 75K for the first round in 2019.
UND NCAA First Round Budget.pdf 17.08 kB · 11 downloads UND NCAA Second Round Budget.pdf 17.06 kB · 5 downloads UND NCAA Quarterfinal Budget.pdf 17.06 kB · 2 downloads UND NCAA Semifinal Budget.pdf 17.01 kB · 5 downloads
So, 70% higher than $75,000 is $125,000 for a first round bid.

How the he!! can a team that is 5 - 2 in the MVFC and 7 - 3 overall with an FBS loss (yes, I know it’s Nebraska, but come on - they are B1G) be ranked 23? Not to mention, having one of the toughest schedules is FCS!
iirc, someone (maybe it was Sica) said that the coach’s poll is the one used by the committee to set the playoff field. If UND is 23 before the NDSU game, the Hawks must win to make the playoffs. It doesn’t seem to matter that UND will be 7 - 4 in the toughest conference in FCS. The only solution is to WIN and be 8 - 3.

Not saying I disagree with you, but lets remember the NDSU offense was going through the SDSU defense like warm butter to start the game. If not for that dumb pass that got picked they would likely have hung 28 points on SDSU in the first half, and that is with NDSU's supposedly inferior offense to SDSU.
Didn’t the Hawks do pretty much the same thing. —- in the 1st half

I have a question or two, because I am just a dumb fan who only played football as far as high school and did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night…
UND is in its 15th year as an FCS football program. Why, at the beginning of this season were predictions by those in the know on this board topping out at getting to the playoffs? There were many whose ‘hope’ was to win a playoff game and even a few who targeted a national championship game appearance. But the overwhelming expectation was that UND would finish the season at 7-4 and make the playoffs or 6-5 and miss the playoffs. And now, halfway through the season, that appears to be a very accurate prediction.
I am going to expose my old age, but why isn’t UND expected to win conference championships and make deep runs in and through the playoffs, as it was during NCC and DII days? After all, the powers in the MVFC and FCS, NDSU and SDSU (which was not considered a football power then) were members of the NCC when UND’s teams were expected to be in the title conversations every year and not expected to finish barely over .500?

Simple thought… the offense just needs to score more points that the defense allows

The defensive stop and missed field goal turning into UND points actually was a huge momentum swing for UND.

Where have you seen any indication that it is?
EWU's finances as an institution are a mess and have been for a while. Their previous president didn't support athletics, which I would assume is part of the reason he left there. They have done studies about dropping athletics or down to D2. Despite some funding challenges at UND, they are not in the same place.Understood. You have more insights on campus than most. Thanks

2 body bag games to shore up EWU’s football budget?
Sure hope that is not Chaves’ recipe for UND.

Thanks jdub. Seems like not all of Chaves’ hires have been bad.
I will get flamed for this, but even men’s basketball (Sather) is showing signs of promise.
