He found a way to win the game

My post was actually a response to this post. Was this Bubba’s decision or Danny’s?

It was Bubba's, if not.....then he's not really the head coach.

who’s call was that going for 2 when we were up 11

  2. I know it is water under the bridge at this point, but watching what DeBoer is doing at Washington or Vigen is doing at Montana State, you will never convince me that a team has to take a backwards step when there is a coaching change.

You realize that would involve having only one four year University? So how would that be resolved between UND and NDSU? Or are you suggesting shutting down every school not located in Fargo or Grand Forks?

    And combine them where? Mayville?

  4. What would be the chance that if UND wins this weekend, that Bubba would feel that mission is accomplished and it is now ok for him to sail off into the fundraising mode of his career?

Or, on the flip side, that another ‘bad’ loss may lead to someone (or several someone’s) stepping up to buy out the rest of his contract?

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20. If we all knew what was going to happen 20 years ago, a lot of decisions would have been different. And I mean a lot. …

How could the decision makers NOT know that UND would have to eventually follow the XDSUs into FCS?

And how could they NOT know that would put UND way behind them? You would think Roger Thomas would have been screaming to not let UND get left behind, instead…

Still missing. Been missing nearly exclusively under this current regime.

0-8 versus crowds of 13,000+ since 2016. 12-15 versus crowds of 10,000+ since 2016.  Big crowds = Big games, which for UND fb has meant ongoing failure and consistently being out-coached.

Getting very very close to that time to move on. Man, what ~ 2014-2016 could have been with Kalen DeBoer … but, well, the “good ol’ boy club” really struck out UND football in that one. Just need to make sure this lesson is applied and we learn from our mistakes in future decisions. The Roger Thomas, Dale Lennon, Bubba Schweigert collection years are over folks … it is time to move on.

Freund is not the answer either

I agree with the comment some coaches just have it

you could tell with Lennon. You could tell with klieman. You could tell with bohl

however I am not sure bubba has it

iirc you were one of the gobc that was pushing for UND/Faison to hire Schweigert over DeBoer.

  8. Looks like the ACC might accept Stanford, Cal and SMU. A couple random thoughts from a fan of the old PAC 12.

side question… What is “Atlantic” about Indiana (Notre Dame), Texas (SMU) and California (Stanford/Cal)?

If OR State and Wazzu stay PAC 12 and bring in 8 or 10 schools to return to PAC 10/12, would it still be considered a Power 5 Conference?

Conversely, if they go to either the MWC or AAC, will it then be Power 4 and Group of 5? And what would happen to the PAC’s FBS playoff and March Madness credits?

No matter what, the demise of the PAC 12 embodies what is wrong with the NCAA and college athletics in the quest for the almighty television dollar. How can (almost weekly) coast to coast travel be good for the student athlete? If the ACC takes Stanford, Cal and SMU, the B1G, Big XII and ACC will have schools on both coasts and across 3 or 4 time zones. The only conference that would be regional is the SEC. (Unless the PAC can somehow rebuild itself with MWC schools).

Knowing it will never happen… OSU and WSU add the Mountain West state schools to the PAC - Hawaii, Nevada, UNLV, Utah State, Colorado State, Wyoming and New Mexico along with Air Force. (I think they would have to vote to dissolve the MWC to avoid the exit fee) The city/commuter schools can then rebuild the MWC. Problem with this scenario being no Cali schools, but maybe San Diego and San Jose to make 12, but still would prefer the state schools + AF. I know, it will never happen, especially since it would hang Boise and Fresno.

    End rant. fire away!

  10. So, if the networks are willing to pay more on the B1G and Big XII contracts to add the PAC12 schools to those conference payments, are Stanford, Cali, OSU and WSU so bad that the networks were not willing to pay the PAC12?

I know I am showing my age, but what has happened to NCAA sports with realignment, transfer portal, NIL, and the endorsement of biological males competing and showering with biological females (funny, there is not a problem the other way, only men in women’s sports - what happened to Title IX?). Not to even bring up forcing (only some) schools to change their nicknames! Will common sense ever return to college athletics?

  11. Wouldn’t it make sense for the B1G to now add Stanford and Cali at a reduced share a’la Oregon & Washington? Have those 6 as a western pod. (6 of the old PAC 8) Would reduce travel for Olympic Sports, yet allow for cross-division national matchups.
    Also would lock up California…
