From reading in the past, it seems as if there were some here crying afoul about UND's Title IX situation. Over-compliant, or hyper-compliant were the terms.

This absolutely proves that, doesn't it?There was some deception going on within the athletic dept from Title IX backers......or some people didn't understand the rules.

Sure do hope the higher-ups who were pushing the hyper-compliance concept are going to be shown the door. They're partially to blame for the dog and pony show in the athletic department over the past year and some months. They've added to the confusion & created a fear of doing wrong by Title IX. Which was a lie.

    Or...

baseball and men's golf were sacrificed last year to clear the Title IX path to drop women's hockey now.

was thinking the same thing...they get 2 for 1 but don't you need six team for a conference? unless they do an affiliate minny, wisco, osu, und, penn state, and one affiliate like UMD?  or wait it out for one school to add?  you would think michigan or michigan state would be a natural fit for wih?

Yeah, my point was not that I think the B1G is going to add women's hockey, just that if UND women's hockey is saved, it should be because both teams are going to the B1G

So here's something to ponder.  To cut any sports now they can't be any sports that are core to Big Sky....so seems soccer is safe with new hire....that would leave men's golf, swim/dive, WH and softball.  Per Big Sky core sports it includes women's golf and men and women's tennis.  So say WH gone...they will want to cut deeper.  Do they cut all the remaining sports...they avoid any issues with Big Sky then.  They don't want to jeopardize any potential conference championships for the next year.  Or....do thy jump to Summit early....

Or the implementation of the cuts are delayed, starting with the 2018-19 school year. Unless it is only women's hockey.

If UND WHKY was consistently winning conference/tournament championships and making trips to the NCAA tournament, you could at least make a case for them.  But 0 regular season or conference tournament championships and  2 NCAA tournament appearances in 13 years (0 wins) is definitely not justifying taking a 1.5 million dollar hit every year to keep the program around.

Isn't that without any costs associated with using the REA?

iirc, all the costs from the REA are charged against men's hockey.

That would make the cost of women' ice hockey closer to $2 MM.

So let me guess.  In the remote chance that NDSU moved to the MVC, I assume the new group-think here would be that the Summit would not be a good fit for UND anymore right?  :0:glare:

Prefer Big Sky now. Would prefer Big Sky then.

however, if UND is in the Summit, prefer that NDSU is still there

and... don't think NDSU is going anywhere. doubt they get an invitation (other than the rumor of UNI support, who else would want to travel to Fargo). plus, the Summit (NCC 2.0) is actually looking like a stable and competitive conference.

  6. Shouldn't head coach compensation also be reflective of the staff and team's community and campus involvement? It seems that football has raised the bar on this since Coach Schweigert has lead the program. How does the bb staff and team stack up in involvement, both in the community and on campus, including support of the other UND athletic teams? Asking cuz I don't know.

  7. Since Jones & Co earned a substantial raise following the success of the MBB team (at least according to the current sentiment on this forum), the budget cuts should go beyond the original amount.  Say at least an extra $100K, making it prudent to cut $1.4 to 1.5 MM.

Another thought after reading the article... conference considerations and bringing a Title IX consultant in probably means that S & D will survive. Does the Title IX concern mean that another men's team is being considered, since UND is already over-weighted toward women's sports? Or is it to insure that dropping WIH does not bring Title IX scrutiny?

  8. Living southeast of Tucson, our 'local' news coverage is the Tucson market. Brian Jones may have met his match in Sean Miller. He gets some of the nation's best talent but can't win the big games. The Wildcats have really struggled in the NCAA tournament since Miller took over. Have not been a Jones fan in the past, but he has put it together this year and I do think he can out coach Miller. Arizona may have too much talent for the Hawks to overcome, but I think Jones can keep the Hawks in the game.

I'm hoping either Womens hockey is cut or Idalski is fired. I'd settle for one at the moment. With the great year basically every major sport at UND is having it really shows Idalski's inadequacy.

Especially considering his piece of the AD budget
