That's just it. The EGF one is the best movie theater in the area by far. Even Fargo doesn't have anything that can match it.

There's now even a movie themed bar and restaurant attached to it.

Not too mention all the other great restaurants within a few seconds walk.

    Great for date night.

I dont recall noticing a big difference in the theaters themselves but the area over there is great.

One other thing to mention is that the NCAA changed a rule and schools are now allowed to provide about 6K in additional payments, above and beyond schollarship and cost of attendance costs..  https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/33684066/only-21-130-ncaa-fbs-level-schools-say-plans-provide-allowed-academic-bonus-payments-athletes-year

UND might be working on this with something called The 701 fund?  This would essentially allow the school to pay key players directly if they get good grades, but I'm not sure if they are allowed to pick and choose if certain players get the money (based on athletic contribution).

    That's new, right?

Very new. Had a chance to hear your AD and alumni association (I think?) president talk about it tonight at a place in Mandan. Couple of small sport coaches talked too.

Sounded like the plan is to allocate X amount to each team on campus for good grades, retention, etc relating to PAST PERFORMANCE. So I think it was kinda like "you got a 3.1 last semester and you came back for this season, here is X amount." It sounded pretty modest. Nothing huge, but it is something worth trying. If it flames out then it flames out.

Nice thing for UND it sounds like there is a lot of investment going into modernizing indoor practice place and the athletic offices and all that. From reading the board in the past, you guys have complained about that for quite awhile? That'll be nice.

He talked a bit about the new NCAA boss too. Sounded very optimistic that Charlie Baker can get things done to get NIL and such sorted out.

I could've asked some questions after but I figured these guys were there for the UND folks, not me. So I left them alone.

CSU is a fine institution, but it's not the State University of New Jersey (aka Rutgers).

Rutgers always wins because of media market (NYC eyeballs) and AAU status. Athletics? CSU.

Was the hypo between Rutgers and CSU? I wasn't reading super closely

That was about access to East Coast media markets. What does Colorado State have to offer?

A team in Colorado that a reasonably large number of people care about. Anyone in the Dakotas looking down on them is very tone deaf.

It is interesting to see the changes in the Summit League over the last 20 years.  Today the best ways to describe the Summit League:

    • National Research Universities (R1 or R2) - R&D Exp $25 million to $165 million
    • Flagship Universities (Rural) / Urban (Public/Private)
    • Academic Spending over $200 million to $500 million
    • US News National Rank (100 to 300)
    • Med School, Law School, or Land Grant

These are the schools that the tSL should be considering as future members.

Currently, the only outlier on this is Oral Roberts.

Thats a pleasant surprise NDSU had a bigger endowment than UND.

Really?  did UND get an extra 5 million as well when it was going through it?

if they did get an additional 5 million to help, and UND did not, I guess that goes a long way in my thinking of whether or not the state legislature has a favorite.  That’s tough to hear.

If I recall about 8-10 years ago state institution(s) were given the opportunity to raise money with a match from the state.  I’m  a bit hazy on this as I’m getting older, but at the time the state put up the parameters that was not to be used towards athletics. I believe 2 schools did not adhere to that, one was NDSU, the other Dickinson State…. I’m not sure anything came of that either, I know DSU has had a ton of issues beyond that.  I believe if it had been UND doing it that way, things would have been on DEFCON with media coverage and various outrage. When it comes to similar situations, it seems one school gets the benefit of the doubt  far more often.

I realize that with the Med School, Law, Aviation, Business etc, UND has been incredibly fortunate with what it has received from the state, however it seems it certain instances that UND either gets slightly different treatment(perceived or actual) than it’s neighbor to the south.

I believe the med school and law school are funded separately from the U itself?

Regardless, you listed basically all the programs offered by the university of North Dakota lol outside of education.

Gotta be happy for Codi Mauch from Hankinson.

Nice to see young men from ND get a few bucks to play a game. Hope he does well. Would say the same for a kid who goes to UND.

Games have probably gotten longer because of the increase in pass heavy offenses. Just a guess.

Could limit what portion of each half where the first down stops the clock. Getting rid of it entirely is a bummer.

And a significant portion of their crowd is the "I'm here for the tailgate! ... There's a game too?" crowd.
That doesn't work well on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

I think it *could* work on a Thursday, if it couldn't happen more than maybe once a year. But yeah, it would not be a great deal.

Wouldn't be the end of the world but there would be large chunks of empty seats for that game.

Does ndsu have a large enough fan base to go fbs with the thought of having weekday games too because of tv

It doesn't take much of a fanbase to be FBS. MAC teams routinely get smaller crowds than the Dakota schools. It takes funding/money. The way I see it, weekday evening crowds would be largely Fargo locals. Probably not filling up the dome for a Tuesday night game against Akron.

Is Bobby Hauck tone deaf.  His caption on the Twitter post while spring recruiting in Montana.  Might be a nose guard.

Whats wrong with posting a picture of a bison walking on the road in Montana?

I agree with you in wishing the game could be played mid-afternoon.
I also understand that logistically, it cannot be. And it has nothing to do with anyone living in Las Vegas. Or maybe the football staff actually prefers the early kickoff and our opinions don't matter?
Maybe they will find a way to push the kickoff to 1 or 1:30 and move the hockey game back to 7pm given the magnitude of games that weekend.

Officially I believe it was to make it a bit more family friendly as games were getting over fairly late.
Unofficial side benefit, probably boosts concession sales a fair amount

Another thing to consider is Saturday is not a work day for most. People have more time to get to Grand Forks if coming from out of town, and can get back home at a reasonable hour, plenty of folks got church in the morning.

Friday makes sense to be a bit later. People need time to get to Grand Forks or go home and change, grab dinner, etc. I quite like the way UND times the hockey games.

The game will be at noon. I’d prefer the biggest football game in North Dakota be played at 2 or 3 PM, that’s all. A huge number of other folks would agree with that. But it is what it is given the home hockey game. Ultimately, hockey is affecting football, which I think is pure bullsh*t and stupidity (in simple terms, I’m backed by popular vote), but again, we know who Chaves answers to (Midco, sure, but bigger picture is donor down south).

No biggie with the earlier kickoff. I'll be heading up for it with a UND buddy.

Not a good look for the Summit League.  WIU ever actually going to join the OVC?  Would love to trade them for Lindenwood or Mankato.

I think there are some concerns about whether WIU will be division 1 or have athletics in general.

Season tickets aren't sold out anymore nor is there a waiting list, so probably safe to say they found the top.
Bigger question would be what happens if/when the team performance slips.

I think a bigger issue, that maybe they can resolve with demand down a little, is getting the younger crowd back. They priced them out for a while as they had plenty of people willing to pay higher prices, but likely have a chance to bring some back with where things have been the last couple years.

Yeah we (youngish folks who were students in the championship era) got sorta pushed out. Will be interesting to see how the university handles that moving forward.

I have a hunch that teammakers gets less money this year.   With the team laying an egg in Frisco some fans are off the bandwagon.  I also would think their fans would be tired of not moving up and would walk away.   The only games that draw well at the Fargodome are UND and SDSU.

Most of the games draw well. Just less well relative to the last 10-15 years. Tailgating alone is a sort of firewall that should preclude some mass withdrawal by the fans. Like UND hockey, its a social event. Go rub elbows with some folks, eat, drink, etc. But yes, I think there is some boredom taking place.

The TM fees they charge are 100% unsustainable at this level.  Good for them to max it out and get their bag but when it costs 2K total for three seats that is...yah.

I think thats very debatable. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer there. To me, it seems wild. Yet they continue to get people to pay.

Champions Club management is the elephant in the room.

I wonder if the difference between Champions Club and Teammakers is that UND fans sorta got accustomed to Engelstad taking care of things while Teammakers have had to be more proactive.
