St. Cloud State at North Dakota (January 25 & 26)
SIOUXELEVENS replied to GoalieMask's topic in Men's Hockey
So we have the culture, the history and the facilities , so why are we not competitive? I believe 2016 was more about the core group of players and how the went about things then Brad Berry. That team could have won with anyone at the helm including Hakstol. Name one coaching move in 2016 that made a difference? -

I don’t believe it would , these players have/ had talent and it’s still there. We need to put systems in and a work ethic that brings out that. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work. Your coach making excuses for his players doesn’t help, hold people accountable and if you dont skate you sit, when was the last time you heard of s heathly scratch? -

If you think this team is competitive not sure which team your watching. With all the built in advantages such as the Ralph, lots of alumni in the NHL this team should not be “ slightly above average” Average is the worst of the best and the best of the worst , Paul Harvey. -

Most pathetic team since I’ve had season tickets (1984). Even Gino’s bad years his team were not even close to this !@#$ show. It will be cool next year to have an empty barn with s cool scoreboard. The first ten minutes of the third the puck never left our end. Berry quote “ make sure we play a good D game against a great offensive team, don’t want to get into a track meet “ whatever happened to if you pressure them in their end they can’t score in ours. Really doubting our season tickets for next year and that’s the first time in 35 years. -

I guarantee if Blais or Hak was coaching someone would have been sent out to send a message to # 22. It’s ok because the players now have no passion or fire. -

Shots mean nothing , nothing. How about quality chances, lacking compared to other teams. -
This team has zero intensity, can’t hold a lead and at time look like the don’t care. Maybe Berry should ask his mentors , Hak and Blais because this wouldn’t fly very long with those guys. North Dakota where good players go to become mediocre.
-
Why should he be though, the head coach has the systems and which style he wants to play and it’s up to the assist’s to implement those and if their not working the head coach needs to change, Berry can’t even change his pojst game comments , culture, working hard, trust the process , blah blah. No fire from the coach, not ready, on the coach. How long before the teams who draft players start pulling them early or not letting them come at all? Hoff, Mismash, Kawaguchi etc all were scorers before they came here now they all struggle, what the common denominator?

I agree with Goon, 1st year on his five year extension. My question after last year why did we give him a five year deal? Coach Berry we weren’t completely thrilled with your season but here is a five year extension, WTF? I know in my job if I have a terrible year I sure don’t see that. But I think you will see Shaw fall on the sword and move on, the if it doesn’t change next season you may see some kind of agreement to move on.

Reiger >Shaw -
I think someone is pulling somebodies chain.
-
Just speculating , easy to blame other things then say the buck stops here and I need to fix it. I hope he pulls his head out of the sand or we could be looking a a down turn for a few years.
-
All these things you bring up are issues that the head coach can control or fix, but will he.Maybe he thinks he is doing fine and it’s outside influences affecting the team.Berry is in the first year of an extension so he’s not going anywhere.
-
We all know it was already, this team had to go to OT twice to beat the worst team in our league.
-
We can throw out what ever we think is the issue or solution, Berry is in the first year of a five year extension he is going no where. His team had been in the bottom of league scoring for two years, that is a trend and the head coach has to realize that something he is doing is not working. Maybe change up one or both of the assist. and/or change the offensive scheme, you can’t win every game 1-0 or 2-1 you gots to score to win. Alot of these players have been scorers in juniors let’s figure out how to bring that back out. It’s great to be good defensively and to have possession numbers but you have to out “score” teams to win.

With the margins so slim last year and with all the ties Jost was worth at least a point a game which probably swing at least one of those games. -

And a D man was our leading scorer last year, I think in Berry’s system the d men have free reign but he hamstrings the Howard’s to dump and chase and cycle along the boards.
