  1. This is a huge deal. If/when NDSU is division 1-AA I don't see then ever going back to division 2, no matter how much they loss at sports, and we all know eventually UND will follow, especially with the new record enrollments that are going on. UND just had there highest first day enrollment in school history with 11,887 and Kupchella expects 14,000 by 2005. If I had it my way i'd keep everything the same, UND, NDSU, UNC division 2, but it appears that's not going to happen, so it'd be best to have the NCC move to division 1. Didn't UND say they'd discontinue the rivalry with NDSU if they went division 1? I thought NDSU wouldn't move to division 1 without a committment from a conference?
  2. I don't know, but UNO might be overrated. UNK won 35-17. http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_np=0&u_pg...38&u_sid=488645
  3. from what i can remember, they no longer let you park your vehicle overnight in the parking lot like they use to let you do at memorial stadium, now its just first come first serve.
  4. My sources say that Phil Lamoureux has verbally committed to UND. He will play two more years of Juniors. He also visited the Gophers recently, but chose UND instead.

  6. build it and they shall come.
  7. Not sure which pictures your talking about, but I know at Scheels they have some nice posters of the arena, and some you can buy framed.
  8. "............really get keyed up any higher than they already do to play the Gophers?" Yes they will. Now that there the national champs you can multiply the intensity when they play them now, because the team and fans (gophers) will be that much more confident/cocky. Which is why they aren't widely liked.
  9. By UND's standards, UND had a disappointing season and was still tied for 6th place in the league, not to shabby for alot of freshman and goaltending trouble. My prediction is UND will move up a couple slots to 3rd or 4th, host first game of Final Five and then who knows Dean always works his magic at that time of the season, otherwise we still get to watch some good hockey and future stars develop. Next year the opposing teams may take UND lightly, unlike last year right after our back-to-back Championship games.
  10. Sioux land another highly touted Junior College Transfer. He'd probably be playing D1 as the article states but he didn't complete his degree. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/3119415.htm
  11. I'd have a problem with it if it wasn't working, but the results speak for themselves. 3 Championship games, 2 Championships in his short position as head coach, so it's obviously working. Blais never guarantees them they'll be in the lineup for 4 yrs. That's movitivation for the players to work hard every shift or else they'll have to sit (or cut), Bochenski learned that quick.
  12. When big concerts come to the Alerus Center, the town can get a little crowded, but they're working on that. They are almost finished building another hotel in the southern part of town and Arnot is trying to build a Hiton Garden Inn next to UND and the Alerus Center.
  13. I know this would be a long shot for the NC$$, but why wouldn't they think about bringing in NHL refs for the championship game. That way no one could really b*tch about the ref/s "having it in for them."

I like it that the NDSU newspaper talks about college hockey. Did anyone else notice a couple of NDSU shirts on TV when we played Minnesota in Mariucci for the Final Five. http://www.ndsuspectrum.com/sports/s_sportsgeek.htm My favorite quote: "Someone even had the audacity to wear a Sioux jersey to the Minnesota/Maine national championship game."
  15. The thing I wonder about is how good Parise/Murray/Hirsch really are. Are they good because of great chemistry they have, is it excellent coaching, does Murray and Hirsch make Parise better or Parise make Murray and Hirsch better. Just like did Panzer have a lot of points/assists because he had a goal scorer in Lundbohm to finish it, or was Lundbohm good at scoring goals because he had Panzer setting him up all the time.

After watching Minnesota win their first title since '79 (and UND's 6th place finish). I realize how much, I for one, have been taking UND's championships and success lately for granted. They (gopher fans) are still in shock, many want autographs, photos, tapes of the game, all the websites mentioning the championship game, magazines, making scrap books, etc. These are simple observations from prideonice and usho. I'm glad they won, now we hopefully won't have to hear so many, we don't need championships, we have tradition comments, and the at least we don't have 27 year old Canadians. Instead they can simply say 2002 National Champs. And make the rivalry even more great. I will definately cherish UND's next championship.

Yeah, I can't believe they called that penalty, and that ended the game. Then Hauser sticking his arm into Maine player. I would have just wished the refs would have let them play and the game didn't have to end on a power play goal. It was a good game and I had a feeling MN would tie it in the final minutes like UND did last year.
  18. http://new.in-forum.com/articles/?id=8271 UND law school wants to dump Sioux nickname, logo By Jeff Zent The Forum - 04/03/2002 The University of North Dakota School of Law wants UND to scrap the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. The law school
  19. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/2970144.htm UND might bid for hockey regional If the NCAA Division I hockey tournament field expands from 12 to 16 teams next year, UND is interested in playing host to a regional. If the field goes to 16 teams, one or two regionals could be added. Currently, there is a West Regional and an East Regional. Both have six teams. The tournament format will be discussed at the hockey coaches' meeting next month in Florida. The NCAA management council is expected to approve expansion April 8. The NCAA board of directors will vote April 25, and the executive committee will make the final decision in August. "We're going to be very aggressive," Thomas said about regionals. "We're planning on going after it. When those types of things crop up, we hope we're in the front row and ready to go." UND is set to play host to the 2006 West Regional. "We'd like to have it every year," Sioux coach Dean Blais said. "It's a huge advantage to host it." Playing host to the West Regional has been an advantage for the University of Michigan. UND was favored to come out of the West Regional in 1998 but was upset by Michigan in Ann Arbor. Denver University was favored to come out of the West Regional this season but was upset by Michigan in Ann Arbor. "I thought the NCAA was into the fairness and equity and everything," Blais said. If campus facilities continue to play host to regionals, Blais wants in. He said UND has the facilities, including side-by-side rinks at Engelstad Arena, and the necessary hotels and airlines to accommodate teams and fans. Blais said he doesn't like this year's Frozen Four format, which has East against East and West against West in the semifinals. He also doesn't like the idea of having West teams remain in the West Regional, and East teams remain in the East Regional, which was mandated this year because of the September terrorist attacks. "The bottom line is you want the four best teams playing," Blais said of the Frozen Four. "Well, I don't think the four best teams are playing. It's just the way they matched them up." Blais said either St. Cloud State or Denver of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association might have advanced if they had been sent to the East Regional this year. Instead, Minnesota is the lone WCHA Frozen Four team. "We could have had three, maybe four, teams in the Frozen Four," Blais said of the WCHA.
  20. The funny part about the Leo interview you mentioned was Wilber (Sioux fan) on USCHO asked that question. http://www.uscho.com/vb....d=11098
  21. I agree. The Sioux next year should really be something to watch. I believe they will probably win the NCC and possible come close to winning a championship. After all it is their turn (hockey, football, womens basketball). The team was really starting to come together late in the season. I believe Beasley will have a good chance at the Pros, but playing in a lower level of competition (d2) might hurt him a little. He'd probably be at a D1 school right now, but, I believe, for D1 you have to graduate from the junior college, which he didn't. from http://espn.go.com/recruiting/s/2000/0811/679496.html Jerome Beasley (Midland JC, Texas) 6-9, 225, sophomore A good high school player (Moreno Valley HS/Moreno Valley, Calif.) who has matured and emerged in junior college, Beasley had an impressive Mullen camp. Jerry Mullen: "He's strong, rebounds well ... runs the floor ... has the ability to score from inside and outside ... nice touch around the basket."
  22. I agree, Omaha is pretty undisciplined, flicking off the Sioux crowd after the loss is pretty classless. The 2001 team had great team chemistry and the crowds at the Alerus was amazing, especially the UC-Davis game. I think the Sioux will do a good job next year, the team will lose some key seniors but none really stood out above the rest. It was just an overall great team effort.
  23. Some girl comes on USCHO and claims to be Molly and everyone believes it's her. I also doubt she was so badly misquoted as she claims. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman"
