My point is when he was working for Bubba, he had to defer to his decisions even if he didn't agree with them. As the head coach, he will get to implement his own vision and philosophies on everything from recruiting to attitude to game plans and so on. There were changes from Roger Thomas to Dale Lennon. There will be changes here as well.

I don't think you can necessarily assume Schmidt would be Bubba 2.0. He'll have his own ideas and philosophies as head coach.

Well, there are always unknowns when hiring. I still think this is way better than hiring internally.

Schmidt has been gone for awhile. I imagine he's a much different coach than he was the last time he was in Grand Forks.

One other thought: When Rube Bjorkman stepped down as head hockey coach in 1978, the hockey program had struggled for a decade. Bjorkman was replaced by one of his assistants. We still call him Gino. And he made big changes to the program. Good changes. Whether it would work out in this case is the big question.

That would be before the portal opens on Monday, which is a good thing.

If Chaves does this internal hiring crap again, my expectations will remain rock bottom until I see something that suggests otherwise.

If we were a top 5 FCS program, it would make sense to hire internally. But we are not. So it doesn't make sense.

You are right. I am just beyond frustrated with this program and the whole athletic department in general. We must get this right.

Maybe the 360 guys know something we don't?
