Alumni Association begins campaign against nickname
fightingsioux4life replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
No, I don't feel comfortable about leaving it in the Legislature's hands. But it is something to think about and prepare for. This could end up being the biggest issue of the 2013 Legislative Session. We'll have to put major pressure on our representatives in Bismarck to save UND athletics. Hopefully, it doesn't come down to that. -
You forgot one, http://www.sayanythingblog.com is their "Bible". The eternal words of Rob Port just CANNOT be questioned.

SBOHE might have bigger prolems than Sioux nickname
fightingsioux4life replied to Hayduke's topic in Community
Well, they canned the President who was in charge of all this, so that's a good start. But they obviously need a thorough audit of everything to get to the bottom of it. -
Please, let's keep politics out of this discussion. But I understand the point you are trying to make. The nickname-at-all-costs crowd thinks any and all consequences for keeping the name and logo are "a small price to pay". And anyone who doesn't agree with it is not a real fan and shouldn't call themselves a fan. The destruction of UND athletics IS NOT AN OPTION!!! The State Board had better do their jobs on Monday or else all will be lost.

Kelley says UND to resume use of Fighting Sioux nickname

And for all the rest of the news that matters: http://www.nationalenquirer.com/ Both of those links belong in the same catagory. -
Kelley says UND to resume use of Fighting Sioux nickname

I hate to tell you this, but it kind of is. The N.D. Constitution clearly states that the State Board of Higher Education has the authority to manage the affairs of the Higher Ed Institutions of the State of North Dakota. The passage has been posted here many times and I am too lazy to look it up, but that is what it says. This was done to prevent the political interference in Higher Ed that took place during the early part of the 20th Century. The State Board is appointed by the Governor and is not a committee of the Legislature that can be ordered around by Al Carlson or anyone else. If "Prime Minister" Al Carlson and his allies don't like it, why don't they amend the Constitution to change it? As for funding, the Legislature is definitely in charge of that. And I am not surprised they haven't defunded the whole system and privatized everything by now, because they definitely don't like the concept of Higher Education in general. -
Kelley says UND to resume use of Fighting Sioux nickname
fightingsioux4life replied to cowboys5xsbs's topic in UND Nickname
My guess is that the State Board wanted to avoid the legal option if at all possible. But the time has come to challenge the legality of this law. If not, there is no telling what kind of micromanaging will take place by "Prime Minister" Al Carlson and the ND House of Representatives. -
What happens if the first petition gains enough signatures?

We get it, all you care about is Men's Hockey. Now please just go back to the Men's Hockey forum and quit being Rob Port's mouthpiece. -

Kelley says UND to resume use of Fighting Sioux nickname
fightingsioux4life replied to cowboys5xsbs's topic in UND Nickname
It is absolutely imperative that the State Board of Higher Education do what it takes to get this law struck down as unconstitutional by the ND Supreme Court. They should have done that as soon as it was passed in 2011, but now would be better late than never. Despite the nonsense you read on sayanythingblog.com, the nickname-at-all-costs crowd on this forum and the leaders of this petition drive, this action will destroy UND athletics forever and ever. It won't happen right away, but it will happen. It will be a slow, painful death. We will become the lepers of college athletics; no one will want to touch us (recruits, institutions, conferences). And that includes Men's Hockey; so even if that is all you care about, you should also be concerned. The State Board should show leadership on this issue or step aside and let someone else do it. -

If the State Board meets next Monday and decides to "stand pat" and take no legal action on this stupidity, they should all be replaced. I am so sick and tired of the Board sitting on their collective arses so that they don't upset anyone. Get off your keisers and do something. -

They'll just quote some stupid crap from their "Bible" (sayanythingblog.com) that "proves" that Fullerton is a liar and is bluffing and that Kelley put him up to it. When the facts aren't on your side, that's all that's left. -
Grading UND's recruiting Class and IPF Talk
fightingsioux4life replied to darell1976's topic in Football
A pretty solid class and one that should help establish us in the Big Sky and in FCS in general. And you can bet that NDSU will disavow any interest they might have had in any of these kids because they have NEVER, EVER lost a recruit to UND. -
The reasons for the NCAA sanctions against South Carolina may be different, but the effects on North Dakota would be the same.....devastating. Except in the fantasy world you and others have chosen to inhabit. Just keep it up and you'll get your wish. An institution without athletics, severely disadvantaged in recruiting and retaining the best students and a shadow of it's former self. But I am sure you will respond with more of this...... Oh well, whatever makes you happy.
-
That's really cute, Dave. You guys are persistent, I'll give you that much. But throwing mud on me and my reputation as a fan of this institution and everything in it won't help your cause at all. If anything, it just makes you look more and more desperate as you use hopeless tactics trying to save a name and logo that I (and many, many others on this forum) love instead of supporting the one action that has any chance of success (the Spirit Lake lawsuit against the abusive, monopolistic NCAA). The petition drives will achieve the same thing that "Clueless Al" Carlson's law did: N-O-T-H-I-N-G! The NCAA doesn't give a crap about what the State of North Dakota thinks about anything. Just look at what has happened to South Carolina with regards to the Confederate flag controversy. If the name and logo are enshrined into the state constitution, the NCAA might decide to penalize the ENTIRE STATE of North Dakota over this issue like they did in South Carolina. That will hurt ALL of our institutions, including the Ag College down in Fargo. The only things the NCAA fears at all are 1) the Federal court system and 2) the Congress of the United States of America. Those two institutions can make life miserable for them. The State of North Dakota is like a mosquito buzzing in your ear while you try to golf 18 holes during one of our few nice summer days. A minor irritant, but nothing more.

I am "willing" to do what it takes to keep UND strong both athletically and academically. YOU, on the other hand, are "willing" to "just flush (UND) down the toilet" to keep the name and logo. Nuking the athletic department just to save it is just plain stupid. We have fought this fight for six long years, but it's time to face facts and realize we can't do anything more. What is the point of having the name and logo without an athletic department to use it?
-
The official logo of the nickname-at-all-costs crowd. When the facts and the situation are unbearable, just pretend it will all go away. Now, back to reality for the rest of us.
-
The truth hurts, doesn't it son? If anything, YOUR loyalty to the institution that I love is basically in shambles based on your myopic viewpoint of destroying UND athletics in order to save the name and logo. I will always consider myself a Fighting Sioux fan FOR LIFE!!! So my user name is not changing. Deal with it.
-
This is really getting pathetic. The nickname-at-all-costs crowd can't counter with facts, so they are resorting to cute little bedtime stories, animal noises, colorful pictures of animals and fairy tales. I feel like I am trapped in a really bad version of Sesame Street. For Pete's Sake, bring some serious beef to the table or don't even bother trying anymore.
-
YOU are the one "desperately clinging" to the 1 in a 1,000 chance that any of this will bring the name and logo back WITHOUT crippling sanctions. Pot-Kettle-Black anyone?

I would believe the National Enquirer before I would believe that piece of crap gossip dirt sheet blog.
