So in my home with a sick kid spare time play around with PWR I found that this weekend:

-Omaha, enjoy St. Paul, then Sioux Falls.

-UND needs to win Friday to get a #1.  Even if Sparty wins Saturday, winning Friday locks it in.

-Denver needs 2 wins to assure a 1. But if Michigan wins/any Maine loss they are still a 1 seed with a loss.  You aren't Spartan fans at all, or black bears fans.

-If you are CC, you don't want St. Cloud to win Friday night.  And death to St. Lawrence, Dartmouth, and Cornell.  If SCSU does they can't win Saturday and no other upsets.

-If you are SCSU you need a win Friday.  Saturday would be good too, but if you don't, you'd need Cornell to lose at some point.  It's to your liking if Omaha doesn't win the NCHC, but if they do, Maine can save you by winning hockey east.

-If you are Western Michigan, you really can't have St. Lawrence, UMass, and SCSU win their conference tournament.  You are fans of North Dakota, BU, BC, Denver, and the Q.

    I'm sure I missed something.

Sorry to hear your kid is sick. Hate it when the little ones aren't feeling good.

I think UND should just win the Frozen Faceoff to leave no doubt regarding the #1 seed.

I feel like that has a pretty good shot at happening.  Even if UND beats UNO.
It's either that, or the committee puts three NCHC teams in one regional, which would suck as well.

Why the heck would UND get shipped east if they are a #1 seed? Which is probably what will happen if we beat Omaha on Friday. Omaha's fan base is not even close to the size of UND's, so shipping us out east would hurt attendance in Sioux Falls. Since the NC$$ loves $$$$$, the only reason I can think of is to make it harder for us to get to St. Paul (again).

    Just a thought.

They will basically be home games for UND in the Sioux Falls regional. That needs to be the objective moving forward. Get a #1 seed.  Winning the NCHC tournament is secondary IMO.

Denver and North Dakota do not need to win the NCHC tournament.

Omaha probably wants to win at least one game to secure an at-large bid.

St. Cloud probably needs to win the tournament for the auto-bid.

Damn him for growing the sport of college hockey!!

You know damn well what I meant.

That was the domino that caused the other ones to fall. You need 6 teams to form a conference for a sport. Penn State was team #6. Without Penn State, it couldn't have happened, at least not back in 2013.

    Cute little post, though. :silly:

PS: I am all for expanding the sport as much as we can.

FWIW- I am not confident that we could win without last change this year. In 2016, I was confident if we had to play short-handed.

Yeah, I am not worried about that. With a #3 overall seed, we would have last change against all but two teams.

In any event, championship teams find a way even if everything isn't entirely in their favor.

$80 a ticket for games that typically don't mean much for the majority of teams in attendance is a little steep

I am saving my money for the Regional and Frozen Four. Otherwise, I would be there this weekend.

I understand the need for it, but it's really disappointing for me, living in the Twin Cities.  Making the time to get up to GF is difficult during the regular season, and the Frozen Faceoff was a virtually guaranteed chance to see at least one game a year.  With it on campus, especially at The Ralph, I fear it'll be nearly impossible for me to get tickets in the future.  Plus the cost of getting up to GF.

Like I said, I totally understand the upsides to it, but selfishly, the switch disappoints me.

    I miss the Final Five...

You, me and a bunch of other people.

Blame the guy that donated $$$$$ to Penn State to start hockey.

That is what ultimately caused this.

Do we have a pregame party? Didn’t at summit league tourney

We used to have pre and post-game parties during the glory days of the old WCHA Final Five in downtown St. Paul, MN. Those were so much fun.

Sad day. Lots of kids childhood memories in that building.

    Another Fargo restaurant closing.

Wait a minute. I thought things like this didn't happen in Imperial Cass County. :silly:

Turns out the Center of the Known Universe isn't immune to national trends after all.

So dumb. Was probably a salary issue. There’s no way you pass on Pat, unless he asked for too much.

If they offered Sweeney the broadcasting gig with nothing else required, he might take it. If they insist on the sales component, he'll probably say "no thank you".

  11. Predictions:

    Friday

UND over UNO: Put the Mavs out of their misery.

SCSU over DU: Payback for three weeks ago.

    Saturday

UND over SCSU: This should help us secure a #1 seed and placement in Sioux Falls.

Just saw that also.  Lovely even numbers.  UNO probably playing for their season tomorrow.  Western not much room for error either with their RPI.  I would guess another loss would be enough to end them as well.

UND's lead over Denver keeps shrinking.  Beating Miami doesn't help at all.

It's not like Denver is playing anyone good either.

With that goalie and their ability to play the tight checking game made for the playoffs, CC is a threat to beat anyone.

If we can't hang #9 this year, I would love watching CC hang #3 in St. Paul.

I brought that very point up a month ago or so and it was argued, but I firmly believe those numbers are correct.  Fargo and Cass County are sucking the lifeblood out of the rest of the region.   I'm not saying that to be sarcastic or trolling, just pointing out the reality of the situation.   The only way to improve is to push for economic development and that's not easy.  Or cheap.

So they are building those homes and apartments for ghosts? Or just as a tax write off?

I agree with you on the need for aggressive economic development and I like what Bochenski has tried to do. But the idea that Grand Forks is dying a slow death and emptying out is total nonsense.
