Surprised no one has mentioned the Pac 12. That will determine what happens in the west. I believe I read that Washington St and Oregon St would have to invite the whole Mountain West (or most???). There is some sort of merger built into their partnership for next year. But if they don't want to fully join the Mountain West why would they take them all? Those two schools get all the payouts and for some reason just announced that they are keeping the Pac 12 network alive for next year.

I see the reformation of the Pac 12 transforming the west. Leave some teams and they'll need a new conference or hold onto the Mountain West but add a bunch of teams.

So Washington State and Oregon State will play for the "Pac 12" title on conference tournament weekend? That would be the most bizarre thing ever.

One game we will want to watch on Thursday is BU vs Providence. A providence win probably moved us into second in pairwise. #WeWantRIT

I noticed RIT was nationally ranked (around 19 or 20). Are you sure about wanting to play them? #becarefulwhatyouwishfor

  3. I found the 1999 Potato Bowl on YouTube (UND vs. Northern Michigan). Dale Lennon's head coaching debut. UND won 29-0. It was nice when we could stop teams.

And your prize for avoiding Duluth will likely be Omaha or Western.

Seriously though, that is what made clinching first place extra important. We get to play Miami instead of those other teams you mentioned.

Does anyone really want to open league playoffs with likely seventh place Duluth?

No, not at all. They can steal games from you even though they have almost zero offensive talent up front.

Which further strengthens my point that the NCHC is the toughest conference top to bottom we have ever been in.

Which might have led to a much different style of athletic department.  But we will never know cause it was built

The Division I move would have dragged hockey down right along with all the other programs without the New REA.

Thank God we will never know whether I am right or wrong.

I remember that after Hak took the NHL job I told my dad that we’d finally be able to win the national championship. I was excited to see him go. That sounds harsh, but the common denominator for all the failures on the biggest stage were him.

    Harsh, but true.

When the same thing happens over and over again, you can't blame it all on bad luck.

That being said, this year's team looks ready to make a serious push for #9.

Re-read what I wrote.  At no time did I ever mention hockey-first or hockey-only.  Nor have I ever mentioned that.

What I did is note that hockey is the only program that wins and it's only because it's impossible for them not to.

    Here's a scary thought:

If Ralph Engelstad hadn't had the vision to build a $104 million arena, hockey would have the same problems as all the other sports.

    Things indeed could be worse.

    One could argue Miami?

    Miami.

    That's it.

The fifth place team in our eight team league pushed us to the limit at home this past weekend and they are on the bubble for making the NCAA tournament.

Heck, even Miami can steal points from you if you don't show up ready to play.

Sure. Probably would but they wouldn't be anywhere near the Top 3-4 teams

They wouldn't be giving up 100+ points per game. This program is a dumpster fire and the blame starts at the top.

Discussion is ok.  I'm a fan of both guys, but regarding league titles, I'd say Hak coached in a tougher league (WCHA with MN and WI) for most of his years.

The WCHA was tougher than the NCHC? I don't know about that. The old WCHA was a great league, but there was some deadwood at the bottom. The NCHC is the deepest league top to bottom I have ever seen in this sport.

UND has typically won its nattys by knocking on the front door as a conference champ vs sneaking in the back by just getting lucky and banking on 2 good weekends.

Fun fact, UND is last independent to win a natty.

That must have been during the period between the WIHL and WCHA. I believe the WIHL folded over teams using overage Canadians. And I believe Minnesota was the driving force behind that. I guess some things truly never change.

Ok there we go again. Conference titles > nattys

im in disagreement. I’d rather have nattys

The 2016 team won both the Penrose AND the Natty.

I'll hang up the phone and listen.

Right, but pairwise is based on how many comparisons you win against every other team. Right now, UND wins 60 comparisons, BU wins 62.

Hey, I’m hoping for #2 overall too, but those CC loses could really come back to bite.

After last season's dumpster fire, these are good problems to have.

I would like to see Omaha get bounced from playing in Regionals. It would be nice to see UND in Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls would be a perfect location for our fans.

Michigan moved from 15th to 13th with the win, hopefully next week they lose and get eliminated and one of the NCHC team jump them.

They are still in bubble territory. They'll have to win some games in the B1G playoffs or I don't see them getting in.
