Danny Freund knows how to coach good offensive football. Offensive line dominated up front like they should against lesser Drake. Tommy Schuster was marvelous again with his escapability, Quincy Vaughn looked good at TE, Trey Feeney got solid reps, #11 Kaminski didn’t play but man does he look the part of a D1 quarterback (from what I saw of him on the sideline and in warmups), Ziebarth looks like a good runner to go with Isaiah Smith (and we didn’t even see Skokna), and lastly, of course, Bo Belquist is an amazing receiver and by far the best weapon this offense has. Should be good year offensively. Defense and definitely special teams are both question marks.

Very true, very true. But we need to raise expectations. Too easy to cap expectations for this program.
-
The history of the game of football suggests otherwise. Too many moments in history after competitors tried to return it and get injured during meaningless football, or the opposing team takes a cheap shot. Just not a smart look if you’re trying to minimize risk, but it’s fine I suppose to overlook this one mistake as long as it doesn’t recur.

That’s the “word” on the street. He didn’t carry the ball again after he left the game with the trainers. Time will tell; hopefully he’s available and at 100% against NAU next week

I agree - now, *if* UND has clean Kelly green jerseys and white pants to go with them, then we’re in business. Honestly, the current uniform sets with the green helmet/white face masks aren’t horrible
-
I have to imagine there are other jerseys on the way, but I don’t know for sure. You’re right though; the potential gray throwback helmets don’t go with the current green and black sets.

This is fair. That thought crossed my mind, too, but you have to have other options that can try to fair catch the punt at that point in the game. Worse case scenario - botched attempt and recovery by Drake (turnover) - is not that big of a deal when up 48-7 or 55-7, whatever it was at that point. Get your back up returner an opportunity - jeez. I know I came off as being hard on Bubba, but this is more so a Kostich issue.
-
I agree with this. Romfo’s first opportunity today as holder
-
It’s a “flagship” 701 pitch, which I think is a solid idea. Screw ndsu- bunch of hicks the entrance video was ok, could’ve been a more suspenseful entertaining tunnel walk but oh well, maybe one year they’ll get it. in-game production/entertainment was ok, maybe B- grade
-
Would be nice if this is indeed a reality.

The pollsters (and myself) only care what this team does against Boise State, SDSU, and NDSU; and I guess for the final polls, the playoff field come November/December. With that said, you can’t have any bad losses.
-
Noticed this. Absolute stupidity to have your best offensive weapon in the game to return a meaningless punt in the 4th quarter. I’m sorry, but where there is smoke, there is fire; Bubba and Kostich are out of their league. Danny Freund made nice adjustments for the second half. He’s the future and nice bright spot (of not very many) on this staff. Defense was fair. worry about stopping the run still, and where were the sacks? Jeez. And Special teams are very questionable. Not only kicking game, but returners confused, and penalties … (roughing the punter by #36 was blatant I thought, but haven’t seen the replay) There’s fun opportunities out in front of this team (@Boise - of which looked the opposite of invincible today against Washington, @SDSU, vs NDSU), but I worry the same ol’ same ol’ with the current “leader” is inevitably going to happen.
-
Solid prediction. Hope his injury (unspecified) doesn’t cost him too much.
-
Another big matchup today: Boise State @ Washington. Future UND opponent this season travels to play almost-UND-head coach Kalen DeBoer’s and former player/coach Eric Schmidt’s Washington Huskies.
-
Some interesting FCS matchups (that are non-UND) this Saturday (today) to pay attention to: - Northern Iowa @ Iowa State - Eastern Washington vs NDSU - Northern Arizona @ Arizona UND plays Northern Arizona next week, and NDSU and UNI are future big matchups this season.
-
I’d like to see over 50 points scored by the good guys
-
Amen. So many opportunities for an awesome suspense-building video board entrance … did the crew wake up and actually try this year ??

Game Day! It’s a great day to go 1-0! #LGH!

Again, it’s about probability, not possibility. I’m not arguing that 2-2 rules out 9-2 from a possibility standpoint, because, well, that’s just not factual; but it’s not probable UND will go 9-2 if they start 2-2. They likely go 8-3 best case scenario, then, which would make things challenging in playoffs. At this point, let’s just see what happens. Arguing with you and others is overall pointless. It’s about what UND does on the field. Hopefully they’re prepared, mentally and physically. Hopefully Bubba has yielded his best squad yet, but only time will tell. As I posted earlier, I would be absolutely thrilled with 9-2 as a final record, but starting 2-2 is unlikely to accomplish that. “I’ll continue to believe 2-2 still gives us the opportunity to have a great year.. to beat NDSU and a deep playoff run. As I said earlier.. I’ll have a different opinion if we start out 3-3.” — UND won’t have a deep playoff run if they can’t beat Boise and/or SDSU.

1) No, actually, my argument seems to go way over your head. 2) Schlossman’s article argues UND needs to beat good teams (Boise, SDSU and/or NDSU) in order to get a seed and play more home playoff games. It doesn’t mention 2-2 vs 3-3. Mathematically, 2-2 can still allow UND to get to 9-2, but probability-wise, that won’t happen. UND will almost certainly go 8-3 at best, and if the 3 losses are to Boise, SDSU, and NDSU, then there won’t be a seed and, as such, will be less playoff games. “So it is reasonable to not throw the season in the trashcan if we start out 2-2 whereas I will be quite disappointed if we start 3-3.” -- I adamantly disagree with this. It’s not about possibility, but rather probability. UND needs to knock off either SDSU or Boise. Otherwise, beating both NDSU and @UNI will be nearly impossible, for several reasons, including loss of confidence due to 2 game losing streak early in season. 3) as for “In order to get a home playoff seed we need to start knocking off teams that we would have historically lost to.”, that’s the point I made well in advance of this article coming out, Schlossman’s point aligns with mine, and now you’re coming out acting like I “struggle” with the very point I originally made. 4) bottomline, we as UND fans all want UND to start winning big games consistently and ultimately give us the opportunity to watch home playoff games and eventually travel to Frisco in January. I won’t support an argument that tries to make light of UND losing 2 games in a row, including 1 of those games being a conference game.

So your advisor was indirectly an Oppenheimer disciple … it’s all coming together now …
-
I want (and also think it is necessary in order to take the next step as a program) UND to start beating the top programs in the country. Why not start this season? All UND fans should want that, and I suspect that they do. Although I individually can’t force that into existence, I sure as hell know the masses can if everyone is on the same page.

Jeez … now I need to add slow dancing to the goddamn list
