  1. UND needs to bring in at least 4, maybe 5 or 6, offensive linemen for 2015. And at least 1 of those needs to be a transfer, preferably FBS drop down. Obviously better skill position players are needed too, but it starts up front for UND's offense. I'm confident one of the three QBs (Mollberg, Bartels, or Studsrud) can lead this team if the line is averaging over 3 YPC. That will require better talent than is currently on the roster, though. As you have said, Knauf (OL coach) is not high on the OL personnel UND currently has. As for the defensive line, the future looks good. Both Dranka and Greely look good for true freshmen; they have a bright future. Add in Hinojosa, Carrothers, and Woodsmall and I think UND has good DL group. Doesn't hurt to add a FBS transfer though; also need to consider good HS group coming in with 2015 recruiting class. Given Bubba's philosophy, UND's success starts and ends in the trenches. Right now, the DL is playing way better than the OL, and the level of play of the offense and defense in games indicates that.
  2. . UND gets "beat down" by 40 against NDSU, then UND will likely get "beat down" versus Montana and Eastern Washington as well, and those games are played essentially annually. The point is, playing NDSU should happen all the time, if not annually. This idea that we should throw blame on scheduling is just plain stupid. If you're worried/scared competing against other FCS programs, particularly rivals, then being successful is out of the question. Embrace the challenge.
  3. That game isn't the deadline. UND most likely will not have it all together by week 3 next season. It will take a year or two to acquire the pieces and develop them before UND is a FCS playoff-caliber team.
  4. NDSU is the type of the FCS football program that UND wants to become. It doesn't take "kood-aid" to see that. Right now, UND has very few top-end student-athletes on its roster; that means both quality and quantity (depth) are an issue. I dislike NDSU relative to UND as much as any true UND fan, but there's no question NDSU has the best football program in the FCS right now. If UND can just crack the top 10 of the FCS, that would be considerable progress. Thankfully, due to Bubba, his staff, and the upcoming High Performance Center indoor practice facility, I think UND can become a top 10 FCS program. Like I said in the recruiting thread though, UND needs to start acquiring some bigger, stronger, and faster student-athletes as a start.
  5. Yesterday's game versus Weber State basically confirms what we already knew; this team, due to Mussman's piss poor recruiting, has very few quality DI players (depth a concern also). There needs to be roster turnover and a lot of recruiting, both in HS prospects and with transfer prospects, this off-season. Thankfully, Bubba realizes this and he knows the type of athletes UND needs from being at Southern Illinois. Eventually, Bubba will get the athletes he needs. 2014 recruiting class still has tons of potential due to all the early playing time within it already and 2015 class is looking good also.
  6. Team is desperately needing new offensive pieces, at all positions. The defense is okay, but the offense just doesn't have the personnel right now, regardless of injuries.
  7. The entire offense needs four or five new players that can be improvements and play immediately next year.
  8. Not gonna say anything til after the game. Say anything now and it will be emotionally-based and, well, bad. I am sick of this sh*t though. I was promised competitive games by Brian Faison, not blowouts to a conference team that has yet to win this season. Good lord
  9. Defense good. Offense horrible. Typical storyline
  10. Defense does their job. Forces punt. Tillman with nice return to 50 yard line. Poor attendance here
  11. 2014: 4-8 (2-6 BSC) 2015: 6-5 (5-3 BSC) 2016: 8-3 (6-2 BSC) My expectation for a successful UND football rebuild, using the precedent set by other division I college football rebuilds. With that said, still one game at a time for this team. Hope for a win today against Weber State. Go UND!
  12. UND needs to get the home victory today. Everyone be loud when UND is on defense! Go UND!
  13. Hunt in the morning, go to the Alerus and watch UND get their 4th win, hunt before dark. My Saturday plan
  14. Be great if UND football and hockey could eventually get coverage from FSN North.
  15. Just win. Bubba gets a pass this year for obvious rebuilding reasons, but next year I expect a winning season due to a relatively easier conference schedule. This patience bullsh*t is getting old. The only thing I read on blogs and in newspapers regarding UND football is "it will take time" this and "patience" that. Any successful college football program expects to win immediately; it's the name of the game. UND expected to win in DII, but now in DI FCS, UND is a bottom-half less-than-average football program and that should appall true UND supporters. The Montana's and NDSU's of the world aren't allowed three consecutive losing seasons.
  16. No question NDSU's TV deal with NBC is better than UND's deal with Midcontinent. With that said, the Midcontinent deal isn't horrible.
  17. The official twitter handle for UND football declared that the two student-athletes have left the program. Hope everything works out for them and for UND football in replacing them with more committed and more capable players.
  18. That's nice. Midcontinent is available plenty of places as well.
  19. Losing players has been a staple of UND football in the DI era. Perhaps it's causing the losing, or it's the result of losing. It's probably a combination of both, though. Either way, UND can not afford to lose players, particularly midseason and with freshmen who have contributed. It's not good, any way you spin it. IMO, it's fair to say the culture change is still very much in the beginning stages for Bubba and his coaching staff. Also, need a year or two to get more recruits who were actually recruited by Bubba and his staff.
  20. Not good. Culture of UND football still has a long way to go.
  21. Absolutely. If I had to apply a simplistic way of thinking to the recruiting as a way to improve UND football, it would be to recruit locally (ND, MN, MB, WI, etc.) and get the kids to buy in and use all their years of eligibility at UND. That was Mussman's issue; just too much attrition. If Bubba can get all of his recruits to stick around and develop, it will create good depth and produce championship caliber teams. It worked for him at UMD. For example, if UND didn't lose all of the departures over the last couple years, UND might not be so bad (more depth at WR and CB). If all these true freshmen playing now stick around and play together as juniors and seniors, UND will be very competitive and perhaps good.
  22. You just can't be afraid to pull the trigger on JUCOs and FBS transfers. Obviously UND needs more talented players, so however UND and Bubba can find them, go for it.
  23. Would you care to elaborate? Only decisions of controversy are the "taking the wind" and "pull the redshirt" decisions. Both of those decisions are perfectly understandable in my opinion. Still comes down to recruiting in my opinion, which means in a year or two we'll actually know the full picture.
  24. You haven't seen it yourself, yet you're saying we shouldn't watch it? That makes zero sense. It's a great way to watch games all across the BIg Sky Conference. Same can't be said for the almighty MVFC.
  25. NDSU will win a 4th straight national championship this season, or at least they should. NDSU has been built up to the best program in FCS football; no question about it. If NDSU ever wants to play with the big boys (FBS), they should start looking for move-up opportunities now while their program is red hot. As for the UND-NDSU football game next season, it's the 3rd game of the season for UND so hopefully injuries aren't a factor that early in the season. Either way, it will be a very challenging game for UND. Nevertheless, I'm very happy about it because these schools deserve to play an annual game due to proximity and tradition/history.
