  1. Agree with the nickname politics, but there cannot be such a divide (i.e., bickering) that it holds back UND support. Eventually, support needs to be consistent throughout all sports. And, as I said above, there is nothing wrong with supporting NCAA hockey and UND hockey, but to try exaggerate it's importance at the expense of football and basketball is despicable.
  2. It is what it is, now. If you're not embracing the nickname, or at least remaining neutral on the topic, then you're against the overall vision for UND athletics. Promoting the identity development of UND athletics, specifically football and basketball, is a step in promoting long-term, consistent DI success.
  3. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/01/nfl-most-popular-sport-poll In the grand scheme of things, no one cares. To make NCAA hockey seem supremely important, you have to live within a bubble. Of course, that's what many UND hockey only fans do. Nothing wrong with NCAA hockey, but to try exaggerate it's importance at the expense of football and basketball is purely laughable.
  4. I really enjoyed the atmosphere that the football team brought into the building today. This needs to continue. As for the nickname thing, people need to catch up with the times or else it will leave them in the dust. Living in the past or solely focusing on minority ice sports will only slow UND athletics' progress as a whole.
  5. I do not necessarily agree with you. The last couple games against MSU have been good ball games with some drama.
  6. Very nice win by UND today. They finally got over that Weber State mountain. As for Jones, he - along with the entire program - deserves credit for today's positive performace.
  7. Who recruits the players who pass the ball and shoot free throws? Brian Jones. The head coach (the ultimate decision maker) receives credit when the team wins and, rightfully so, receives blame when the team loses.
  8. This is a big game for UND MBB, so per history, I expect Jones to choke this one away at the end. I hope I'm wrong. If UND wins, then times may be fortunately changing for UND men's hoops.
  9. I didn't listen one bit and I'm sure I didn't miss anything important. The Fargo media does what I would expect them to do, and I am not interested.
  10. Absolutely. Couple the new staff with the positive changes on campus such as the HPC and you've got an upward trending football program. Very exciting things happening for North Dakota football. Playoff bound 2016!
  11. Happy NSD, folks!
  12. Morgan R. Olsen, executive vice president, treasurer and CFO at Arizona State University, is my choice; however, they all seem to be worthy candidates. From an athletics standpoint, I hope the new president can appease UND stakeholders, increase fundraising, and further develop the UND athletics' budget distribution in such a way that elevates UND football and basketball to greatness. Of course, I - as well as many others - have several other investments and interests within the University that the new president will need to be competent in, as well.
  13. UND-FB-FAN Members 3,151 posts Posted 17 Jan 2014 · Report post Keaton Studsrud is a good quarterback prospect out of Minnesota and he will be visiting this weekend. I don't think there's a huge difference between Studsrud and Wilkie overall, so I'm fine with Studsrud if he decides to come to UND. He's very athletic and his highlights have him making some nice throws. UND-FB-FAN Members 3,151 posts Posted 18 Jan 2014 · Report post So apparently Wilkie is the next Joe Montana. Some people need to get a grip... The kid has potential but is no sure thing. There's plenty of other capable quarterbacks in the region, and I for one am fine with Studsrud. He's listed as 6'1" and has great athleticism. Rudolph can coach ball security and fundamentals, but you can't teach athleticism. You either have it or you don't. Check out the highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/602945/ Apparently Northern Illinois and Rod Carey were semi-impressed also (he has a PWO opportunity for NIU). Hope he chooses UND UND-FB-FAN Members 3,151 posts Posted 18 Jan 2014 · Report post Give Studsrud a solid running game and he'd be fine in the play-action game. Throw in a few designed QB runs like NDSU did for Jenson and you've got a multidimensional offense that is tough to defend. I'd go with Studsrud. UND-FB-FAN Members 3,151 posts Posted 19 Jan 2014 · Report post Glad we got him! He's a solid quarterback prospect! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just for the record, I really liked Studsrud's level of athleticism during the recruiting process back in 2014. As for Bolinski, he's undersized and not as athletic as Studsrud. I wish him the best, but I question his ability to be a starting division I quarterback.
  14. I can understand the current excitement from the fan base considering the proximity of National Signing Day; however, let's still have a sense of realism here. I certainly hope both Heidlebaugh and Bolinksi develop into great quarterbacks for UND, but I will believe it when I see it.
  15. Well, I believe he is a preferred walk-on, so apparently the coaches believe Mr. Bolinske has a bit of an uphill battle ahead of him in terms of earning a scholarship. I wish him all the best. As for my comments regarding the QB position, anyone who follows UND football is aware of the drop-off that occurred after Studsrud got injured last season. Fortunately, Studsrud will be be the first solidified starting QB going into spring ball and fall camp for UND football in a few years; however, the depth is still questionable. Also considering what NDSU has done at the QB position in order to win five-consecutive national championships (all-time winningest FCS QB, a QB receiving 1st round draft buzz, and a very capable heir apparent ready to take his place in Stick), it appears the QB position is a bit important if you want to win championships. Best of luck to Bolinske, but it appears UND did not sign a scholarship QB this year; that could become an issue. I hope Studsrud can stay healthy in 2016 so this QB depth issue doesn't rear its ugly head again.
  16. Hard to criticize the 2015 class too much with true freshmen starters Santiago and Tyus Carter starting every game. Also, nice contributions from Grady, Olivera, I. Smith, etc. The potential was definitely there with that 2015 class, but this 2016 class looks every bit as good or better. Should be exciting moving forward with these two classes from Bubba and staff
  17. Absolutely. He deserves a shot at showing what he's got at the QB position. I'm just getting impatient with "half-assing" the QB position; it deserves considerable attention year in and year out, especially with how depth issues there hurt UND in 2015.
  18. Minot kid will have to make the team at a position other than QB. It will be very surprising if he stays at QB and even more surprising if he beats out Heidlebaugh.
  19. I'm afraid this is simply a case of NDSU football being way more attractive than UND football. As I mentioned in a another thread earlier, all of North Dakota's top football talent view NDSU as the premier in-state designation relative to UND. It certainly makes Bubba's job harder, but I yet have confidence in his plan to move UND to the top of the Big Sky Conference.
  20. That backup for NDSU wasn't too shabby, though. Easton Stick put up over 1,100 yards passing with a 61% completion percentage, 500 yards rushing, and 18 total touchdowns to only 4 interceptions. Point is, NDSU has solid QB play. UND did not have top QB play until the end of the 2015 season when Studsrud came back and started doing some really nice things. Without solid QB play, its hard to win big games. Having a really good defense helps.
  21. I completely agree with you. Many misinterpret this notion assuming it means UND cannot be a successful DI football program. Obviously, that is not the case; however, it certainly does make it more difficult on UND when the majority of North Dakota's and Minnesota's premier football talent prefers NDSU over UND. Also, former UND football fans have flocked down to Fargo to support NDSU football over the past 5 years or so. All in all, it isn't beneficial for UND football at all. With those facts said, what "iramurphy" stated above is also right on; UND needs to control what they can control and make upgrades. Furthermore, the job that Bubba and his staff are doing in terms of recruiting, coaching/developing, and promoting the football program is crucial to UND football becoming revitalized. UND completing phase II of the HPC would be tremendous for the football program due to the upgrades in coaching offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms, etc. Also, the UND administrative efforts at the Alerus Center on gameday needs to improve.
  22. No one can be sure how Wentz will perform in the NFL. Most admit to the notion that scouting is an inexact science. With that said, I know Wentz was a very good college QB and he will be drafted in the first round. Be careful not to criticize yourself into a corner with this one, fellas.
  23. Yes, but they only played one game this week. Not an excuse in my opinion.
  24. Well, you have to at least hand it to Jones in that he's consistent. With that, the guy is not a good enough coach for UND. Time to take the steps required to have a competent men's basketball program that folks can rally around and follow.
  25. Yes. The strategy and close-game leadership continues to be, shall we say, questionable?
