  1. I don't think you understand the concept of bandwagon fans, especially of the UND hockey/NDSU football type. I know of several "NDSU fans" (purely bandwagon) who could possibly be in attendance for the UND Potato Bowl vs USD because of the potential UND hype and NDSU being out of town. These are the same "NDSU fans" that I saw at UND football games regularly before NDSU's current championship run starting in 2011. By no means am I clamining that I know exactly what the masses will do (that's why I am just estimating a wide range of possibilities in terms of Potato Bowl attendance); however, I do know bandwagon, casual fans exist and it is not synonymous with the UND hockey/Bemidji State hockey example you provided ....
  2. The Canad Inn (https://www.canadinns.com/stay/grand-forks/home/) -- which is attached to the Alerus Center -- is always a great choice because it eliminates driving (restaurant, bar, tailgating, game all right there). Other hotels near the Alerus Center include, but are not limited to: Sleep Inn & Suites (https://www.choicehotels.com/north-dakota/grand-forks/sleep-inn-hotels/nd052?source=pmfgosil&pmf=GOOGLE&k_clickid=f93ac9df-8c44-4b82-8cae-caf64810ec3d) Baymont Inn & Suites (https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/baymont/grand-forks-north-dakota/baymont-inn-and-suites-grand-forks/overview) Staybridge Suites (http://www.ihg.com/staybridge/hotels/us/en/grand-forks/gfksb/hoteldetail) My Place Hotel (http://www.hotelsone.com/grand-forks-hotels-us/my-place-hotel-grand-forks.html?as=g&aid=112804211078&dsti=480075&dstt=8&label=bh480075&akw=my place hotel grand forks&asrc=Search&ast=_my place hotel grand forks&gclid=Cj0KEQjwwry8BRDjsbjMpPSDvagBEiQA5oW0nMYHNhh4-PcB03_TnMzOrZGDaxo0sMuV_NMoEw1OaV4aAnWt8P8HAQ) Should be a fun game, hope you can make the trip.
  3. Good point in terms of winning, which I absolutely do not deny. With that said, I won't be backed into a corner and admit that UND and the Alerus Center are doing everything peachy perfect in terms of the presentation and in-game features. There's always room for improvement in that department, especially in the Alerus Center, in my opinion. I'm happy that you are of the opinion that you will attend and cheer for UND irregardless of the bells and whistles, because that is the same way I look at supporting the University of North Dakota football program. However, it is not just about people like us; the casual fans need to also be considered if we want the overall attendance numbers to increase.
  4. It was in 2009. Not so much in big game in 2011. Let's see what 2016 brings.
  5. Last season, after the big win against Wyoming, the Potato Bowl vs. Drake drew a relatively low number of 9,865 to the game. I would love to see 11,000+ at this season's home opener/Potato Bowl; however, I'll be a bit more modest in my predictions until I see proof that UND football is catching on in popularity around Grand Forks (UND marketing/in-game productions and Alerus Center can go a long way to improve this, as well -- music, music, music !!!). I predict 10,000 to 10,500 at the Potato Bowl game due to the regional opponent (South Dakota) and UND football's consistent marketing this summer.
  6. Strange. Really strange. ROOT Sports coverage leaves much to be desired, particularly for UND.
  7. The Iowa/NDSU game (11 AM CT) will be well over by the time UND kicks off against South Dakota at the Potato Bowl (4 PM CT). Plenty can still watch the NDSU game and yet attend the UND game in-person. So, your troll attempt was pathetic. Pretty interesting to hear you provide a "trolling comment" right after you asked "No smack here, just wondering why the Bison being on the road makes any difference in the attendance of a UND football game?" Try a little harder to troll next time.
  8. 2016 Preseason Polls: http://www.bigskyconf.com/news/2016/7/12/FB_0712161745.aspx UND picked 5th by coaches and 4th by media. Once again, UND needs to just get it done on the field. Many around here certainly expect a much higher finish. Lastly, the final game of the regular season vs Northern Arizona should be a darn good one.

    2016 Season

To each their own in terms of opinions but I guess my opinion on this matter is that there is a bit too much nitpicking going on here. Yes, playing fast-paced teams is scary and a bad match-up for teams with little corner depth and that can't tackle in space. Yes, playing PAC-12 teams like Utah and Washington will be more difficult than playing MWC (Wyoming) and MAC (Bowling Green) teams, but it does set you up for a big-time splash win for the program. Since a win versus Wyoming brought confidence to the program last season, what would a win versus Utah or Washington do? That kind of potential win cannot be overlooked, in my opinion. Go for the big win, even if that includes an up-tempo team from the MAC.

Correct. But from an offensive scheme standpoint, Sam Houston State and Bowling Green are somewhat similar. So going off of purely that, along with Montana and others of the BSC, UND will eventually need to eliminate the "big play" of these teams. Bubba knows you can't give up 50+ yard chunk plays against these kind of up-tempo, spread attacks. EDIT: BGSU will provide UND an early opportunity to see how their defense has developed since last season's Montana and Montana State match-ups.

    2016 Season

If UND does give up a bunch of yards against Bowling Green, which is more than possible, it will be because UND couldn't get pressure on the QB and the DBs couldn't tackle in open space. That type of situation, early in the season and out of conference, is good for the team in terms of experience before conference play. I think the fast-paced spread system that BGSU runs will prepare UND for most, if not all, of the up-tempo attacks UND will see in-conference ... which is a good thing. Remember, UND's main goal is to win the BSC.

So UND shouldn't have scheduled Sam Houston State to a non-conference home and home, either? You want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Thank God Bubba isn't shying away from winning every game on the schedule - that's the way it NEEDS to be. Lastly, Bowling Green is a MAC team; UND should be able to hang with most, if not all, from that mediocre FBS conference.

    2016 Season

Well, in the past 10 years or so, with the advent of the spread no-huddle offenses, the defensive key still starts up front. I can recall watching a game about 5 years ago when Oregon's offense was the new big thing but they played a top LSU d-line and, subsequently, Oregon was handled. UND's great d-line depth will be absolutely critical against Bowling Green; rotate the big boys in and out and make Bowling Green protect. Despite the match-up issues, I still think UND has a very good chance to be far more physical and steal this one vs BGSU.

Agree. UND needs to pound the rock and control the clock with Santiago, Oliveira, Nevermann, etc.

    2016 Season

... and/or UND gets to the QB a bunch. But I completely agree with your point (see last season's Idaho State game). UND will need big games out of Cole Reyes, Deion Harris, etc.

    2016 Season

That's because the leader of UND football at the time would've implied something like "go out and try your best" i.e., "expect to lose". I'm am extraordinarily happy with Bubba and his staff. They have completely changed the direction of UND football, largely due to Bubba's vision, leadership, and dedication to UND.
  17. BIG SKY PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM :http://www.bigskyconf.com/news/2016/7/12/FB_0712162556.aspx UND landed two on the team in RB John Santiago (unanimous selection) and S Cole Reyes; UND has a few more student-athletes that were at least considered, I'm sure.
  18. I certainly agree hockey is well behind football in terms of general popularity and usefulness at the collegiate level, so good for NDSU. They have a tremendous football program; however, I don't lose any sleep at night admitting that (although some NDSU fans certainly could use a dose of similar humility). With all that, I still hope they lose several games every season. Here's to 2016 being a beautiful losing campaign for the ag school.
  19. MAC football is really quite mediocre, even for FCS standards. I fully expect UND to be 2-0 going into the Potato Bowl game vs South Dakota; now, whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen. The games are played for a reason as execution is everything. Let's just remember that last year this time very few expected UND to beat Wyoming. If UND is 2-0 going into the Potato Bowl, I expect around 10,500 people.

I believe so. Both were around for the Bollinger passing camp.

    2016 Season

With the chemistry that Studsrud and Georges have been building this summer, I expect Georges to easily be the top receiver in 2016. He just has that "it" factor with both his deep-ball speed and underneath quickness. If he stays healthy, 1000 yard season is possible.
  22. Michael Coe is now on the UND roster. He played at Western New Mexico while Coach Knauf was there; Knauf was the offensive line coach during his first two seasons at the Division II school before being elevated to offensive coordinator in November of 2012. Coe should help the depth and may even push for a starting spot. His HUDL tape is pretty good.

Depth chart is coming together. Most exciting thing is that this year's team still is not senior heavy; as good as 2016 could be, 2017 should be even better. Credit to Bubba and his staff for really putting together a nice roster in terms of futuristic outlook for the entire program.

    2016 Season

In all respect to the kid, because I believe he may have been playing hurt, Miller played quite poor against NDSU last season. One of several reasons the offense looked ridiculously bad in that game. Demon Taylor and Dan Bell have the potential to be very good players for UND; also, considering their position coach is a former Wisconsin guard, they'll have high expectations set for them, and rightfully so.
