I mean, in most instances using that photo/reference, @SIOUXFAN97 is not wrong, but the obsession isn’t healthy …

Concussions are a serious injury and should be handled as such; however, there should be no preconceived notions here. Let the protocol play out and see what happens. I too would suspect it will be only Romfo and Sulik (and technically Etienne as playoff games don’t count towards redshirt status) on Saturday at quarterback for UND, but we shouldn’t rule out Kaminiski already. Concussions are a continuum (spectrum) injury, as most, and as such the protocol is important. Kaminski has an opportunity to still play next weekend, although low probability, but prematurely ruling him out at this juncture is unfair to the young man and his teammates, as well. Let time and the protocol play itself out. From purely a football perspective, I think Romfo deserves a chance to lead his brothers, and the 701 Moving Company and Ziebarth need to set the tone early, often, and especially late. Protect the ball offensively, average 4 ypc at the end of the game offensively, and defensively force turnovers and prevent big plays. Play good special teams, no blocks (turnovers), no big plays (no return TDs) and make PATs! Purposely didn’t say field goals as need to finish drives and score touchdowns, not field goals. All of UND’s losses this season can be tracked back to red zone inefficiency. UND wins as such and moves on to the quarterfinals if they accomplish most if not all of this …

also why the Dakota schools and Montana schools need to go G6 / FBS and not stay FCS … the FCS runs through the Dakotas/Montanas and everyone else is irrelevant… it’s easier (yet still challenging) to move up 4 to 6 schools rather than move everyone else in the FCS … also why UND should think big and be ready to pounce (opposite of early 2000s) … Needs to be “group of 6” in the FCS to “group of 6” jump, if you will, and NOT a group of 4….

… “better” offer … “better” school Games ain’t played on paper or spreadsheets … so this is a bad take but I get what you’re trying to say, as it’s the contemporary way of thinking, but I don’t think it’s that simple, and I don’t think it’s always the right way of thinking. it’s not wrong to want to compete with rather than concede to PJ “ used car-salesmen” Fleck and the regional underwhelming Big 10 school Numbers ain’t everything. Enrollment and dollars initially promised ain’t everything.

How else would you interpret this quote? Schmidt said of Rucker: "If you're in Grand Forks and you want to keep Lance Rucker around, you should call the 701 Awards right now and start paying into that thing because we need to keep him in Grand Forks. You've got to love him, too. He's just about ball. He cares about ball. He cares about his teammates. The last five guys playing that position in this defense are now playing in the NFL, and Ruck has a chance to be able to be the next guy. He's twitched up. He's a handful out there."

Playoffs Second Round 12/6/25: UND @ Tarleton State
UND-FB-FAN replied to UND-FB-FAN's topic in Football
Controversial but a sad reality that we now live in. I think there’s a solution to the offensive struggles - although it’s not necessarily these two things you mention - and I’m confident we see it happen down in Texas next weekend. -
Awesome test. Iron sharpens iron. I know who I think will come out on top …

24 hour rule. Onto the next big opportunity. UND Football has (rightfully so) advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs and will visit No. 4 seed Tarleton State on Saturday, December 6, at 12:00 PM (CT). Another great opportunity for UND. Turns out, It’s a lot warmer in Texas than North Dakota, with lots of flight options from Fargo to Dallas. Head out there and support UND to another monumental playoff victory. Location: Memorial Stadium I Stephenville, TX Tickets are on sale now: BUY TICKETS HERE General admission seating with visiting (UND) fans sitting in bleachers behind the North End Zone Tickets are $12 Tarleton State (11-1) will be a tough opponent but a very good match-up and opportunity for UND to take the next step. Tarleton State has a notable FBS victory this year over Army (6-5), winning 30-27 in double overtime. One shared opponent between UND and Tarleton State and that is Portland State (Tarleton won 42-0 and UND won 50-20). of note (source: Grand Forks Herald) Portland State opened the season with a 42-0 loss to No. 5 Tarleton State, a team on the rise in the FCS. "They compare to Tarleton State," Barnum said. "I've seen them both. We were able to protect against Tarleton. We weren't able to protect against (UND). They pressured my quarterback. They hit my quarterback — hit him early, hit him late. They did everything to him." As we know, and not a surprise under Coach Schmidt; UND’s defense and particularly defensive front has been lights out. Offense still needs to take the next step, and I undoubtedly suspect they will. LETS GO HAWKS… head down to Texas and get it done and onto the next one THE JOB IS NOT DONE

Went from this: to this: to this: UND is recruiting the right guys, but also, highlight the calendar on August 31, 2028… UND - Minnesota always been a big deal in hockey, but rightfully so, needs to elevate apparently on the gridiron also. Arguably, the ag college (Fargo) dynasty all happened because they didn’t play UND, set their sights on bigger targets instead (FBS) and did what they did head-to-head to Minnesota in 2006, 2007, and 2011 (albeit playing Tim Brewster didn’t hurt) and the rest is history … P4 may have a ton of money, but that don’t guarantee the head-to-head outcomes … FBS sights for UND are appropriately shifted to Nebraska (2026), Iowa (2027) and then the goofs (2028)… ya’ll get your popcorn ready and prepare for these to be a battle and no longer just a destination game … time has come to elevate the program

Yeah … can’t say there’s too many NCAA fans around Grand Forks and UND … But the NCAA is in fact the [hypocritical] intercollegiate governing body … for now.
-
You mean “official” … HAHAHA The NCAA is incredibly hypocritical, for sure; but trying to criticize contemporary concepts by UND’s coaching staff is ludicrous (if that was your intent).
-
Huh? Still taking time to adjust? Also, do you actually believe “NIL isnt a pay 2 play”?

UND defeats Tennessee Tech 31-6 Lance Rucker and Gaven Ziebarth saved the day. Rucker knocked out three fumbles on Tennessee Tech quarterback Kekoa Visperas and Ziebarth put the UND ground game on solid footing as the Hawks pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 31-6 win over Tennessee Tech in the first round of the FCS playoffs. Rucker now has 10.5 sacks on the season after his third multi-sack game of the season. "Unbelievable, right?" Schmidt said of Rucker. "If you're in Grand Forks and you want to keep Lance Rucker around, you should call the 701 Awards right now and start paying into that thing because we need to keep him in Grand Forks. You've got to love him, too. He's just about ball. He cares about ball. He cares about his teammates. The last five guys playing that position in this defense are now playing in the NFL, and Ruck has a chance to be able to be the next guy. He's twitched up. He's a handful out there." Give to 701 Award

The offensive regression is horrendous. It’s on the coaches completely, especially given how well the offense was rolling to start the season. Can’t blame it on the players. Fruechte to blame …
-
Yep. Fruechte needs to be on the hottest of hot seats …
-
First of several road playoff wins this season happens today. Gonna be fun

Embarrassing. Drop MBB or re-invest. My God, UND

No one exactly knows what the future holds, but can’t afford what happened 20 years ago to happen again. Need to be prepared to act regardless of what presents itself. Need to move up with regional rivals when the opportunity arises. FCS playoffs won’t mean anything if NDSU and SDSU and Montanas aren’t in it. Also, there’s no guarantee that a new subdivision isn’t formed in the future (G5 plus top FCS programs) that still features playoffs. All in all, UND and its boosters and supporters cannot afford to be closed-minded … at all.
-
Need to expand the booster base or consequences will be detrimental. UND needs to think bigger. Evidenced by comments on this board, the idea that UND can’t or shouldn’t compete with current “FBS” programs (namely G6 programs) is far too prevalent and needs to be worked around by “leadership”.
-
Geography means very little anymore, from the FBS to the FCS to the NCHC, there are several examples of this. If you can pay the bills, you can be in the conference. Grand Forks certainly has geographic disadvantages, but I would argue it is in fact small-minded to exclude potential advancement and reorganization based purely on that. Not wanting to aggressively compete with the Fargo-Moorhead area and beyond is arguably one of UND’s biggest flaws; you can’t just be niche and opportunistic. You have to take some chances. There’s no question that reorganization in college football is upcoming. The timeline is fluid, but whether UND athletics would be the Pirates (more likely) or the Yankees (less likely), they need to be prepared to make a hard decision financially. Conservatively bowing out echoes the early 2000s, significantly, and the fact some can’t see that is a concerning ignorance towards historical precedent.
-
You might want to examine non-fiction instead. Don't exemplify small-mindedness: a UND education is worth more than that. The FBS is entering the picture real soon, at least for the Dakota schools that will actually ascend. UND may not be in the arms race for football and/or FBS, but that isn’t a stance to be proud of …
-
No question. We hopefully have learned from the early 2000s. Can’t be left behind again. Cut some salary from Dane Jackson and give it to Schmidty and his staff. The arms race in division I collegiate athletics ain’t with hockey, I’m afraid, and UND is primed to potentially screw up a second time in the past quarter century if leadership and boosters don’t step up and use their brain …

UND football (not Chaves) won the 7 division one games needed to enter the playoffs. UND football and Coach Schmidt need to do better versus the Dakotas and Montana schools, no doubt, but give credit where credit is due. This is year one. And a new season for major accomplishment has presented itself … Chaves did appropriately focus attention on strength of schedule, and this situation is not mutually exclusive … Both the wins (UND football) and the appropriate focus on strength of schedule and the quality losses (Chaves) deserve credit ..

Bingo … need more $ … need to brainstorm on this and not continually criticize a major donor who favors ice hockey
