This 2021 team sucks. Cold hard truth. Under Bubba, since 2014, UND is average. UND has been below average to average in that timeframe. I’m not buying it right now, but if you’re content with average seasons and occasional second round playoff exits, it is your right to be fine with that.
-
Ever consider that maybe UND’s athletic department is being run incorrectly? Like, ass backwards? Just a thought …
-
IMO, Craig Bohl and Bubba Schweigert are not in the same coaching category.
-
Cool, now you are referring to athletic department “facts”? Right … Think what you want, ‘83. You’re bulletproof…
-
So, don’t start over because Bubba might get UND to 0.500 in 2022 again? Regression to the mean. And fear to make the next splash hire and go outside the inbred UND coaching tree. Spring 2021: UND got killed @ NDSU and @ JMU; other than SDSU win at home, not sure that strange spring season is much to hang your hat on.
-
Compared to other sports, college football coaches have likely the largest impact on the success (or lack thereof) of the program. Well, well documented that quick turnarounds are frequented when good coaches take over.
-
Your bitching is pathetic. You are getting down votes because your attempt at a point is embarrassing. You should want UND in the same conversation as NDSU, JMU, SHSU, EWU, Montana, and Montana State. “Football first” “Hockey first” What ridiculous simplifications.
-
Players win games. Coaches don’t win games, but can lose games. Interesting concept, but one I 100% agree with.
-
Looked really good vs Missouri State in playoffs. Like really good. But I get the point you’re making.
-
The real question is what happened from the spring to the fall? Take a close hard look at who they lost, sure, but something else got into the team’s head. The team was making critical plays to win in the spring but now they most certainly aren’t.

The microanalysis of fans is hilarious. Love to focus in on one or two controversial plays, when the result is determined by a total sum of several plays throughout the entire game. Easy to point out the fumble and failed 4th down attempt, but what about the defense’s failures at the end of the game? Or the failed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down plays that led to UND being presented with 4&2? Or how about the missed throws early on by Schuster? So many opportunities over the course of a FB game, but fans love to latch on to controversy in the last two minutes. Recency bias at its best. To sum up this season, UND is close to being a good team, as they’ve lost so many close games, but they are what their record says they are: a losing team. As I said in a earlier post, this UND squad (players and coaches all included) has a losing mindset.
-
Because Bubba holds a position titled head football coach … From a microanalytical perspective, sure, I get what you’re saying, but he’s the head coach; his team’s successes and failures all come back to him. Ultimately, ALL decisions made are under his authority.
-
Hey NDSU rancher - F off. UND has lost every MVFC game by one score or less, so yes, it is a good thing to have everyone back PLUS additional talent. The thing is, UND won’t truthfully have everyone back. they will lose some good players.
-
Thoughtful, but won’t yield anything. We’ve seen enough of Cochran and Smith to know what they are. Fine players, but not all-conference type guys. At RB, Smith still has a shot.
-
Best offensive player, LT Waletzko, will be gone, so need to replace him. Will be really tough to replace him. Offensive line needs to move people better than they have. I agree, the offense could use one more, or ideally two more, athletic big play fast perimeter players. Hard to get those kind of guys at FCS level, but they’re out there. With that, most importantly, my #1 wish includes a better QB. Maybe Feeney will be that guy? This offense will continue to do what it’s done with current QB setup. That isn’t horrible though. UND lost today not entirely due to its offense; the defense did allow 32 points, including a last minute drive when the TEAM desperately needed a stop. Allow this defense had shined in areas, defense has been susceptible against good spread teams - Utah State, Southern Illinois, and now Missouri State.
-
This isn’t a wrong outlook. Definitely potential for UND to be good in 2022. Another reason this coaching staff is likely retained in full.
-
Different standard and culture, from top/down. If hockey, $ would be there to fire/replace incompetent coaches. Ultimately, Bubba will be UND’s coach in 2022 unless he retires/resigns. New coach in 2023 at earliest.
-
Or loses and bad football
-
Speculation, you have no proof. And he played this game, go to a different thread to spread that rumor bull$%!#. He played in this game and this is this games thread
-
? Their players, their ridiculous calls, their team’s soft mindset that folded when things got tough in late 4th qtr
-
UND was up 28-17 in the 4th and lost. I agree, entire team is at fault. If the defense makes even one more stop than they did, UND wins. again, weak minded team
-
The guy who carried the rock at the end of game had 150 yards and 3 TDs. Without him, UND loses by 2 scores. Focus on the things that matter … the entire team folded in the 4th quarter … again
-
? What? Sober up and then post
-
Won’t happen mid season. Won’t happen after the season either. After UND gets blown out @ NDSU in 2022, maybe UND has a new head coach for 2023…
-
weak minded UND team … just not a winning bunch. Falls on HC Schweigert’s shoulders
