  1. First off, NFL to NCAA football is not a direct comparison. Second of all, at that point in his career, #9 had plenty of deficiencies, and those New Orleans teams were nothing too special. Other than that, I do think that is a solid comparison to what UND does.
  2. Schuster definitely can improve, and timely running is an obvious area. Other limitations are largely tangible and hard to improve on, like arm strength and speed. With all that said, Schuster is so-so. He’s certainly not the source of all of UND’s problems but he doesn’t scare opposing defenses either, in my opinion. Perhaps one should poll opposing defensive coordinators to get their actual view, but just by hunch. He was voted all conference in spring 2021, but definitely not getting those honors in fall 2021 (this season) As for back ups, Freund clearly does not think there is one better than Schuster right now, but hopefully Feeney develops into that. I honestly don’t see all three QBs (Schuster, Feeney, Vaughn) splitting time moving forward, so simple clarity with that position group must develop. You need an alpha at that position, and I know some on here rationalize the current situation by just saying Vaughn is the “wildcat QB” and not a true second QB, but I still don’t buy that. Good to great QBs are not routinely taken out in critical situations for the “wildcat QB”, in my opinion, unless there are obvious deficiencies with the starter. Red zone and short yardage is tough for UND given Schuster’s running inability, thus the substitutions to Vaughn in those scenarios.
  3. Offensive coordinator and quarterback are both under the spotlight for good reason when it comes to the offense’s success or lack thereof. UND definitely has room to improve at both areas.
  4. No, of course those things aren’t his fault. But stop splitting, this isn’t just a pass/fail grade. He’s got things to improve on; he’s not playing anywhere near Carson Wentz, Trey Lance, Easton Stick or even Brock Jensen-level. Recent NDSU championship QBs are the barometer.
  5. UND needs to beat SDSU @ Brookings first, that’s a huge task based on how UND has played this season. Possible, not probable.
  6. Failed third down run (slid too early). Then again 3rd down in early 3rd quarter where he could run for first down but instead threw into double coverage and UND punted from 35 yard line as result. Several throws into double coverage, which at least once worked with Boltmann catching it inside the 5, but not the norm. Would NOT say he had a “great” game, but was solid. Did enough for UND to win.
  7. All good points. Team is 0.500, so definitely some good things to brag about, but overall 0.500 should not be the expectation at UND and this squad failed. Bubba, his coaches, and the players need to do better in 2022.
  8. That is fine, Illinois State has a good defense, but UND seems to make all teams they play have a good defense.
  9. You’re f**king ridiculous. Win is a win, definitely not upset about that, but the rationale of some around here never fails to amaze me.
  10. When did NDSU score only 20? Or USD score only 14? and I wouldn’t say those two teams “suck”, as both will be playoffs. UND scores minimally and they do seem to “suck” this year, at least compared to those teams you mentioned. They played USD and NDSU close, but ultimately UND scoring only 13 points and 10 points in those games, respectively, cost UND those games.
  11. Certainly no style points, as per usual, but a win is a win.
  12. Well, if butterfinger makes another appearance then, well… point is, ball security, ball security, ball security
  13. Game is not over yet people. Defense needs to make a play.
  14. Credit where credit is due: nice call by Freund. Play action with Quincy Vaughn at QB in the red zone.
  15. Symbol representation of UND’s 2021 offense, brought to you by Freund.
  16. Easy to make this game a defensive game. UND and Bubba made this a defensive game by playing down to their opponent rather than playing aggressive and getting the game over with. This philosophy has followed Bubba every season, so it’s no longer just a theory at this point …
  17. Another butterfinger appearance … epitome of this year’s Freund offense
  18. Such a typical Bubba Schweigert ball game. Opposing team’s offense bad? Okay - let’s shut down our offense too so we keep it toe to toe …
  19. Ridiculous. Conservative play calling on 1st and 2nd down, puts pressure on QB for 3rd downs, who fails to recognize running lane on said critical third down, and then Bubba punts from 40 yard line. Horrible …just don’t agree with it all.
  20. Damn, you’re salty. UND got that final deep shot opportunity because of Illinois State’s penalty, nothing UND did to deserve that. Go shovel snow and let folks informed provide commentary.
  21. Am I worried? No. Would I be surprised if UND loses by one score? No. If UND loses by one score, remember the failed chances to get more points in the first half - UND had several opportunities to score more if not for turnovers and conservatism.
