  1. I do have the proof but I will not reveal it.

And aren't you the one who knows "for sure" that Bennet Brien regrets doing the Sioux logo? You have got to be the most connected person to the craziest situations that I have ever heard of.

  2. You could go the MasterCard route:

Tickets to Get in the Door $200

    Hotels for the Weekend $500

North Dakota fans taking over the State of Hockey Priceless

Some things money can't buy, for everything else there's the Hakstol Card

    North Dakota FIGHTING SIOUX

    Notre Dame FIGHTING IRISH

    Whats the DIFFERENCE ? ? ?

    $$$$$$

    These are GREAT!

  3. I just picked up the posters and they look awesome!!! I had the ESPN pic copied onto the transfer sheets and all I have to do now is iron them on! I'll post pictures in the next day or so!

Awesome! Can't wait to see the pix.

  4. By far the best sign I have ever seen. I put it as my desktop background pic and my profile pic on Facebook. This is just awesome!!!! I hope ESPN says something about it.

I am truly humbled. Thank you all for the kind words!

  5. Hello North Dakota fans,

I'm a Notre Dame alum and hockey fan, and I just wanted to say congratulations on a stellar season thus far and good luck against the world's slimiest, crappiest, most despicable academic institution. We hope to see you in the final, and I hope our small contingent and your large contingent of fans will be cheering on each others teams in MSP, just like Denver (but with better results!)

Would Fighting Sioux vs Fighting Irish get some discussion going in the media about the inequity of how the NCAA has two standards as to what is hostile and abusive?

DUH ...... this is the Winner !!!! I'll take the t-shirt, the poster, the flag that flies from the car window. . . . and anything else you put this on!!!!

Or a couple high quality, large signs....

This is on MS Publisher. I can send it to you in .pub, pdf, jpg, gif, png. Unfortunately I will not be able to go to St Paul, but would be honored if anyone would want the file to do whatever you want as far as signs, t-shirts, anything!!

  7. Sioux Logo

NCAA slaps Hostile and Abusive logo on Official NCAA Championship Merchandise. This is odd, considering my Milwaukee Frozen Four T-shirt has the interlocking ND logo. Well, I suppose that isnt the only reason its odd.

This NCAA site also has a link to "N. Dakota Fighting Sioux" gear, including a pink hockey jersey - logo & all! Its all about the $$, isn't it?

  8. Belfour held the UND record for most wins in a season with 29.

Aaron Dell tied it yesterday with UND's shutout win over RPI,

and broke Ed's record today with the win over Denver!

Anybody know what Belfour's goals against average was? IIRC it was also under 2!

  9. Does UND have an obligation to do the right thing for college hockey? Just because the Big 10 schools don't care that they might be undermining several programs, should UND not care? UND should consider doing the "right thing" not because it might help those other programs, but because it will ultimately be beneficial to UND to have a healthy college hockey landscape.

Conference power grabs don't offend me in the bigger sports, because football and basketball programs aren't going anywhere. College hockey is fragile, though. If UND pushes for and gets a superconference, several programs could struggle and fold. Also, a superconference that competes with the Big 10 would have the same strutural flaw the Big 10 risks: not enough weaker teams to balance out a schedule.

    +1

  10. Let's be honest, the Big Sky is a great fit for UND, other than travel. I don't think it's a problem for UND as much as the travel costs for some conference members. To again be honest, the conference acted impulsively when they thought Montana might be leaving, and they thought they were getting two teams from the central time zone, not one.. Reality will set in later, with UND actually in the league in 2012.

I just look at the SUU example (where they were alone in the league) and have to wonder if the Big Sky is a destination conference for UND, simply based on travel and cost. No, I am not jealous . . . I am glad personally to be playing in the central time zone and Valley football so I personally can travel to more games. I like the Summit and the member situation and footprint keeps improving. I travel to lots of games, and to have SD and Omaha in the league is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. It's too bad that UNO is giving up football, but that might be a good thing for NDSU recruiting. When people say that the Summit is the old NCC, I say . . . what's wrong with that . . . I like the NCC. If you remember, NDSU waited an extra year to try to move the entire NCC to division I, do you remember?

The conference situations are what they are, I'm not trying be negative, just giving some honest thoughts.

It's not like the Great West/Independent route has been low in travel costs. From California to Grand Forks feels like a lot less travel than California to New Jersey. Portland can't be any further than Newark and Cal Poly doesn't sound any farther away than Stony Brook. Yeah, there may be fewer miles in the Summit/MVFC, but Grand Forks would be the outlier in those conferences too. Sacramento & Portland may not like traveling to Grand Forks any more than Oakland or Youngstown like going to Fargo.

Face it, D-I conferences are large (especially western conferences) and travel is a part of being in D-I instead of D-II or NAIA.

  11. Have to wonder if the BTHC was in the back of people's minds when the WCHA added UNO & Bemidji.

I can see Michigan Tech going back to the CCHA, since they are losing 3 teams. MTU has had a pretty tough time competing in the WCHA and might look at this as an opportunity to rebuild their program. Maybe Alabama Huntsville will get a chance to join the CCHA instead of, or with, Tech.

While having Notre Dame & Miami join the WCHA would be a good move power-wise for the WCHA, it would hit the CCHA while it is down. Don't know if they have loyalty to the CCHA, but I think that they (especially Miami) will remain in place, at least for the near future.

Without the Big 10 schools, the CCHA is down to 8 teams (9 if Mich Tech goes back). This is far worse for the CCHA than it is for the WCHA.

As for the BTHC asking the Sioux, Notre Dame or anyone else to join their hockey conference but not the rest of the sports, bring a snowball to Central & Washington in Phoenix in June. The Big Ten just doesn't have affiliate memberships. Notre Dame, on the other hand, doesn't want to give up their football TV contract for the sake of their hockey team and the Big East is happy to accommodate their desire to play in their basketball conference without requiring them to join the football conference (for now, anyway).

The WCHA will survive, but I do mourn the loss of the great rivalries with Minnesota & Wisconsin. When you go back to the 'old days', those were the schools that I looked most forward to watching the Sioux play, even more than Duluth and Denver. Times are different now, and Duluth & Denver have developed into some pretty intense competitors and a lot of fun to watch, too, but I still look forward to the Gophers and Badgers more than any of the others.

Now, looking forward, if Tech goes to the CCHA, both the WCHA & CCHA would have 9 teams. That will give all the schools a better opportunity to schedule out of conference games, such as Boston College, Maine, Miami, Notre Dame, etc. Don't jump too quickly on the add more teams bandwagon.

Does this development have any impact on the Fighting Sioux nickname/logo issue? Since Minnesota and Wisconsin will likely not schedule UND if the Sioux go on the sanctions list, will the nickname supporters think twice about their resolve to keep the name at all costs? I have to admit, as much as I support keeping the Sioux nickname and have been following the nickname threads, the potential collateral damage from losing any opportunity to play the Gophers and Badgers troubles me. Maybe they will, maybe they won't... Maybe the NCAA will see the error of their hardline position against UND while being more flexible with Florida State, Utah, Illinois, et al or maybe they will just put UND on the sanction list and say this is what was agreed to. That is one set of questions I wish we knew the answer to.

Finally, this is all a wild guess - maybe college hockey as we know it will be totally different in two years and UND, Denver, Duluth, etc will form a super-conference like the Big East in basketball. Or maybe the conferences will realign more regionally and Alaska Fairbanks and Air Force (yes, I read star's comment about Colorado College being in Colorado Springs, but Air Force's recruiting would not have any effect on CC's because of how they get their students) will join the WCHA along with (and this is a real long shot) British Columbia.

  12. 2011 Bracket

Every year the NCAA changes how the regions matchup, so ever since messing it up once a few years back I'm kind of paranoid. I think I have the bracket set up right (East meets Northeast and West meets Midwest) but let me know if you encounter any problems; if there are none, I'll start to distribute the link more publicly in a couple hours.

    Nicely done! Thanks Jim
