  1. Lived in the dorms back in '98. Reed hall. Pretty weird that a UND fan is feeling confident enough to try and call out a Bison fan on where he lived back when he was in the dorms? Close though. Off by 12 years and about 100 yards. I know the kid who you are referring to however, 344 is an interesting individual to say the least. I keep up on Bisonville and Siouxsports. Apparently, you also follow both sites as well. You did a great job describing 344Johnson, who according to BV has a whopping 744 posts. I would assume you have went on their Preposterous Statements thread. He has taken a liking to that one and yes, he pulls a Gold Mine of funny stuff some of the more.....ambitious UND fans have decided to put on a couple of SS.com threads, one in particular that I follow is the Facilities Masterplan thread. You went from sounding pretty knowledgable to looking just as goofy/childish as 344 does all through my interpretation of the data you were oh so kind enough to present to us.

Idk what barrage you are referring to? I think I made a joke about it the other day and probably one other time. I would not call it a barrage by any means and you have chosen to bring it up multiple days after Dave let it be known that he is indeed working in printing rather than the Pizza Industry (I'd assume Pizza Patrol or Domino's). I would also advise against eating Cheeto's and playing Xbox at the same time. Orange cheesy powder will make your controller look disgusting. The younger folks nowadays call it "live," not on-line, this isn't the 90's. It should also be noted that Xbox is generally speaking used by Americans and Europeans. The likelihood of playing with a Venezuelan and a Pakistani (especially considering the times a Pakistani would be playing) is extremely unlikely. Generally speaking again here, but rarely will you find only 3 people playing Halo against one another. They'd probably stop Xbox live support of the game long before it lost that kind of popularity.

Feel free to go take a seat son. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NDSU and UND should play a little ball. Even every few years, it'd give me a reason to stop in and take a look at the Alerus and see it for the first time since '03. Or do you think UND will have the retractable roof stadium completed by then?

Wow! you know a lot about live (online) gaming...

  2. If Mussman only beats Drake, Black Hills State, Montana Western and Sioux Falls (which is very possible) he has to go. I don't see this team winning a single conference game, and am having doubts about the Northern Colorado game. Bring in an FBS coordinator with broad recruiting ties. We have no business being in a worse position than USD.

There is a reason Phil Jackson won with the Bulls, who did nothing before or after Jackson (even with Michael Jordan - yes, Jordan & Pippin left the Bulls the same time Jackson did) & the Lakers (with Kobe Bryant & Shaquille O'Neal), who couldn't win the title before Jackson was their coach. Coaches do make a difference.

  3. Bob Nielson

The numbers speak for themselves. Two NCAA Division II national championships, four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference titles (including the last three in a row), three perfect 11-0 regular seasons, four NCAA II playoff appearances, 79 victories and a .790 overall winning percentage. Bob Nielson has accomplished all this -- and much more -- in just eight seasons of head coaching activity at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

    ...

Nielson returned to the UMD sidelines in 2008 following a four-season hiatus and proceeded to oversee one of the most impressive one-season turnarounds in NCAA Division II history, taking a club which had gone 4-6 in 2007 and molding it into a national champion. Along the way, his Bulldogs rolled up a 15-0 overall mark...

    'nuff said

  4. Pat Paschall may have racked up a bunch of rushing yards, but the fact of the matter is that they were 3-8 (same as last year's Sioux team). They sucked big time.

...and what's this obsession with Bison fans thinking that I deliver pizzas? For the thousandth time, I do screen printing for a living but so what if I did deliver pizzas. What somebody does for a living has zero impact on the relevance of their opinion on sports. I don't know if Bison fans think they're going to make me angry with this constant accusation or if not what their motivation is. The truth is it does not make me angry. It only amuses me and in the process they're making themselves come off as elitist snobs.

sorry i already gave a + today so couldn't + rep you to offset the 2 bison rubes who neg'd you.

  5. For an NDSU fan you have been pretty reasonable so at least one of us should return the favor.

I think you are selling your FB team short. I don't think a FB game would be a blowout. I think you guys could hang with tthe Sioux for at least the first half and the game would stay realatively close this year. Although your first two games are against a couple of marshmellows, so it is hard to gauge, you had a good finish last year and enough kids back that I think the Bison wouldn't get "blown out". Remember UND is still in transition and are still building toward the future. Within the next couple of years, I would say you may see the traditional UND excellence especially with UND being in the Big Sky. The last 13 games where UND won 10 of those 13 games were so long ago that shouldn't influence your opinion that UND would blow out the Bison. Don't give up on them so soon. Scheduling all sports including FB icould work every year if the AD's would make it happen.

to quote McDonalds - "I'm lovin' it!"

    +1

  6. Admit to being too lazy to find the proper thread to post this. Had to chuckle at this post on championshipsubdivision.com about JBB's incessant rambling about the Dakota Big 3. :D

You might even want to note that the thread has nothing to do with the Bison, but JBB has brought the Dakota Big 3 into the discussion once again, and this is a response from a Northern Iowa fan.

*Does not include the prestigious University of North Dakota, who have an illustrious history of beating the **** out of the Dakota 3. Only "real wins" matter to this great school. The "moral victories" are for the Dakota Big 3 to celebrate.

  7. ... The general public, on the other hand, do not realize that Native Americans the Sioux people themselves are opposed to dropping the name. If a larger percentage of the population become privvy to the fact that the pleas from the Native Americans Spirit Lake SIOUX on the name and logo issue have been ignored in favor of the loud voices of those who are not Native Americans Chippewa and bleeding heart liberal white guys then that could open the door ...

    fixed it for you ;)

  8. I seriously doubt this administration is going to pick an nationality/ethnicity as a logo and nickname. Plus, for those of us who are not of nordic decent will not cling to it. More than likely they pick a lame animal that a bunch of other institutions use and everybody hates it.

or weather phenomena (though I do like Wild Nokotas and Tsunami)

  9. ...They can also get rid of the Native American centers and areas of study as well. Since the school isn't supposed to be associated with Native American imagery, why not get rid of all the areas of study as well. I know this certainly won't happen but it would make a point to all the non-native americans pushing for the elimination of "Fighting Sioux" to realize they have cost the natives something as well along with the free education they receive.

Do you really want to punish all Native Americans because of something some left wing nuts caused? That is stooping to the level of the PC crowd that is forcing the retirement, despite the fact that most of the tribal members of both Spirit Lake and Standing Rock have actually openly supported the Sioux name and logo (symbol). You sure don't want to force the Native Americans to have to go to NDSU, do you? ;)

  10. “It’s not like a ‘Gopher’ or a ‘Badger’ — it’s way above that,” Brien said. “The ‘politically correct’ people misinterpreted it.”

You left out the part where Ben wishes he had never created the new logo. Now everyone don't start jumping around saying how would you know that. Ben told me this himself and considering I have known him for 27 years I'll take him at his word.

Doesn't sound like he regrets designing the symbol to me. Sounds more like he's proud of the way non-PC people have rallied around his art.

Thank you, Mr Brien, for what you did for the University of North Dakota.

  11. I would be willing to bet that UND will have a nickname by fall 2012. With the new conference affiliations, there will be something in place by the start of Big Sky competition, whether you want it or not. How the vote on this thread comes out will not have an impact on the administration's timing.

The best we can hope for is to have some influence on the name chosen, but there is not even a strong consensus among the hundred plus votes on the New Nickname thread. Rough Riders has held steady with a third of the votes, followed by Other, then some form of Norse. If Rough Riders is chosen as the new name, two thirds of the people on this board would have preferred something else and may be unhappy. Just goes to say there is no good replacement for Fighting Sioux, but again, my bet is that a new name will be in place within 12 months.

I hope Darell is right, that there will be a mascot. That should rule out weather phenomena and inanimate PC names like Flames (though not so sure how PC Flames is). However, with the PC crowd in control (and the loss of the Fighting Sioux name does acknowledge that the PC crowd is, indeed, in control), alumni, students and fans will need to be strong and united.

  12. No matter what the name ends up being, here is a jersey idea (at least for this season and until a new name is chosen). I do see it as one the administration will not push, because it does not kindle any hint of the passion the Bennet Brien logo does.

  13. DEMOCRACY is a form of government in which all eligible people have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. Don't see that happening with this issue. I'm as upset as anyone with the name change, but the people of Spirit Lake & Standing Rock must be furious.

sorry, whatever gave you the idea that the NCAA was/is a democracy?

  14. from Goon's World blog:

It would be interesting to see who is funding this lawsuit.

    thanks to MissSioux85

no one from either Standing Rock nor Spirit Lake Tribes

Why are the Chippewa and the Three Affiliated Tribes so much more outspoken about this? Is it jealousy?

  15. Maybe I'm just crazy, but the timing of this lawsuit seems suspicious. Like - why wasn't this done as soon as the law was signed? It reads like if the NCAA won't budge then an excuse will be needed to get rid of the law quickly and without a fight. Just the threat of the lawsuit might be enough.

Kelley can say something like "We gave it our best shot and the NCAA won't budge. Now the school is threatened by a lawsuit! The law must be overturned and UND must be allowed to retire the nickname!"

    Agee with a Bison!

  16. "Hat trick" Jesus? You think Jesus plays forward? Uh, no. He's a goalie. How do I know? ... Jesus saves.

And Reverend Grimaldi scores on the rebound. ;)

this one I really like! +1

Don't know how you would score a hat trick from the goalie position, but if anyone can, Jesus can! :)

  17. The problem really is that there is nothing to motivate the NCAA to relent on their position. They have been getting beaten down every time they turn around... USC, Cam Newton, Ohio State, and on and on... They must just be feeling that they have to win one and this is one they have already won, so they won't back down at this point. It seemed, back when the meeting was originally scheduled and the NCAA was going to come to North Dakota to talk to the legislators & the governor, that they may have been willing to talk, but they appear to have taken the hard line on the Fighting Sioux now.

Mr. Carlson doesn't seem to have anything in his back pocket to pull out and save the name, at least not that he has leaked to the press, so the result,as Darell put it will be a name-changing decision.

  18. OK, back on topic. This is D-Week with the NCAA.

Friday will bring clarity to the NCAA's position, as if we don't already have it. Is there a snowball in downtown Phoenix that didn't melt in August? I don't think I saw the sun rise in the west this morning. Much as I wish the NCAA would relent and see the light, I fear that they just want this fight off their plate and will not budge from their previous stance.

Hope that Carlson brings examples of the state honoring Native Americans, such as state highway signs, the logos on the doors of the Highway Patrold and the name Lake Sakakawea to prove there is not malicious intent, but one way or the other, UND needs the blessing of the NCAA to achieve Big Sky membership and 'smart' money is on the side that says they will not get it.
