  2. TAMUK 24 GVSU 21 (i think GVSU is the better team... but maybe a bit oveconfident after beating SVSU) UND 36 UNA 35 UND goes for the two point conversion with time expired... wilson fumbles the shotgun snap... the ball bounces all over the field and it appears UNA will recover the ball after the fumbled snap.. at the same time however Pat Sweeney starts sobbing uncontrollably in the press box after the fumble.. Ed Schultz punches sweeney because Ed can't hear himself talk and is VERY upset. Weeney falls out of the press box and eventually rolls onto the field where he inadvertently (according to him) kicks the ball which ends up in the hands of Lueck who runs the ball into the endzone.. Sioux win... Sweeney can't stop crying As for the bison I am holding out for a BCS bid ... NDSU beat Tusculum who beat CN who beat Valdosta who beat Fla. Atlantic who beat Middle Tennessee who beat Troy State who beat Marshall who beat Kansas State who beat Cal who beat USC. (i stole that from the D2 board)
  3. I beleive they are called "grant-in-aid". UCDavis used to give these out and may still do So they are technically non-scholarship but they do give money to athletes from the fordham web site http://www.fordham.edu/general/Admissions/...ial_Ai2158.html Athletic Aid Student-athletes on "Atlantic 10 Conference" teams may be awarded scholarships based on athletic ability. Football grants are awarded under Patriot League regulations and are based on both financial need and athletic ability. These athletic grants require an annual re-application and are renewed based on family need as calculated each year using the required financial aid forms. Since need varies depending on the family situation, the amount of the grant may fluctuate from year to year. In addition to the award letter, in June student athletes will receive an athletic contract which must be signed and returned before the aid becomes official and your student account is credited.
  4. Verk62, It appears you want the game to continue. RT has went on record saying that players/fans etc.. were split on whether they wanted to play SU anymore or not. I am assuming you know other former/current players and was wondering what their feelings are. I would think that most players would want to play the game, I would also think the Football first (hockey other sports second) fans (i'm assuming they exist ) would also want to play the game.
  5. UNC only did play 5IAA's but 4 were ranked in the top twenty-five by the GPI and the fifth was 36th.. so that was a pretty brutal IAA schedule considering all five of those games were on the road
  6. The Fargodome has been "in the black" every year of its existence, they may actually finish in slightly the red this year due to a few cancelled concerts and some lawyer costs due to changing management companies, but overall it has done quite well Many IAA games are on TV the semi's and NC game on espn .. also regional fox networks carry regular season games. Did NDSU ever say they were going D1 to make money.. I don't think so.. I beleive the move is to compete with similar institutions No it didn't it drew 13280... still an very very good crowd http://www.fightingsioux.com/sports/mbball...-02/02mbb10.htm Thanks for the good wishes, I wish you are your university the best in the future.
  7. It is nice to see an opinion from a sioux fan that is not dictated by Roger Thomas. I for one would like to see the rivalry continue but if RT and UND feel it is not to their advantage to play NDSU so be it. Also if making the playoffs is the most important thing for UND and their fans... why do only 7K show up, while 12K plus show up for the bison-sioux game at 26.50 a pop... ( a game which is also on TV). P.S. if the bison still blow... and the sioux are the opposite of the bison... that means the sioux do what
  8. I know the GLIAC is moving to the Midwest Region next year, what other teams will be in it. That is one of the problems with D2 football (in other sports the difference is not nearly as significant) the "have nots" (ne-10, GNAC, CIAA, NSIC etc) have as much voting power as the "haves" (ncc, miaa, gsc... etc). I wonder what the BCS bowls would look like if the Sun-Belt, WAC, Mountain West, had as much clout as the Big 10, Pac 10 and Big 12. It could look like this... The Rose Bowl would be Ohio State versus Miami (of Ohio), Fiesta Bowl- Florida State vs North Texas (Sun belt champ gets an automatic bid). Orange Bowl Oklahoma vs Air Force. Sugar Bowl LSU versus Central Florida. I know the best teams from these non-BCS conferences are good, but they just can't compete on a consistent basis with the top BCS teams. I hope D2 gets their stuff together.
  9. Where does the DIAA manual list the independents? When I load the manual and do an acrobat search for the word independent no matches are found. All I see is "at-large institutions" which includes non-scholarship teams from non-automatic conferences. I also heard Taylor say on the radio last week that NDSU's SSI would be higher than emporias if emporia lost to CMSU and Fort Hays state lost. Which would be correct if NDSU got 6 points for the loss as opposed to 1. I could be wrong but I think RD17 is correct.

    Golden Arm

In college football sacks count against a quarterbacks rushing totals, I can't remember more than a handful of times Stauss actually "ran" the ball.
  11. You are probably correct, however nowhere in the D1-AA football handbook are these qualifying independent D1-AA football institutions listed (at least I couldn't find them). The list of "at-large institutions" includes teams from non-qualifying, non-scholarship conferences (ex Drake). Using that list as the guide the only schools that wouldn't count as a qualifier would be the provisionals (Davis, UNC, etc) So the NCAA's quote Please refer to the appendixes of the 2003 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Handbook for a complete list of the institutions that comprise each of these automatic-qualifying conferences, as well as a list of the Division I-AA independent football institutions. is inaccurrate (imagine that)
  12. I could be wrong, but I beleive NDSU would be counted as a D1AA independent because it is not a team from a non-automatic qualifying conference. I think that's how the game against UCD was calculated. (RD17 who frequents this board is the numbers guy, I would ask him). Either way playing IAA doesn't help you if your a D2 team. I think it was in NDSU's interest this year to play IAA's to prepare us for the future. However, if UND wants to stay d2 and not want to play us that is fine.
  13. If they did they are mistaken http://www.ncaa.org/library/handbooks/foot...d2_football.pdf Win versus a team from a Division I or Division I-AA automatic-qualifying conference, or a Division I-AA independent opponent
  14. UND received 9 points for the UMC win while NDSU got 8 for beating montana. The Davis game was a home and home contract scheduled at over a year ago, as was UND vs Mesa, and I think the UND vs UMC was a 3 year contract so without buying out the contract which is pretty rare (NDSU versus Moorhead) both teams were stuck with what they had. The montana and newberry games are where you may be right as I don't know when they were scheduled I'd like to see a game next year, but if UND doesn't want to play as it may hurt their playoff chances that's fine too.
  15. The loss to UCD and even the win against Montana hurt our strength of schedule index. However how the SSI is calculated changes from year to year. Last year a win or loss against a D1AA team was worth about as much as a win or loss against a +.750 D2 team. This year a win against a D1AA school counted as much as losing to a +.700 D2 school on the road and loss about the same as a loss to a +.500 D2. The rules weren't published this year until Sept 03 ( a little too late to change schedules, whether the rules were known but not published before then I don't know). I think how the SSI is calculated would probably have to change before RT would consider playing SU also the fact that the next game would probably be at the Fargodome doesn't excite RT too much
  16. The game will also be on WDAZ/WDAY don't know the satellite coordinates however. I think it has not been made public yet in an effort to sell more game tickets.
  17. I have heard through the Grapevine that both KVLY and WDAZ/WDAY have put bids in to televise the game. I am pretty sure it will be on TV
  18. I really don't care for the MIAA superiority complex either, the CMSU radio guy said 3 MIAA teams should make the playoffs, even though one of the "co-champs" lost to winona 46-3 at home. I don't know if I can rout for the sioux, but like the NC game in 2001, I don't think I can rout against them
  19. UND92_96, I agree that overall SSI is probably used, but from the manual it is not clear. I remember Taylor talking about how if Fort Hays lost, (which they didn't) it could help NDSU, and while I was crunching overall SSI's earlier, NDSU would have had a higher SSI than Emporia (who played Fort Hays earlier) if Forth Hays would have lost. Including all games CMSU SSI would drop to 9.18 with their win over an NAIA school (worth only 2 points), if SSI is followed as closely as it appears it would difficult to justify a playoff birth for CMSU even after beating Emproia. An interesting note is that if Montana and Davis were D2 teams with the same record they have now, NDSU SSI would be either 10 or 10.22 depending on the result of the UC-Davis game next week. I realize these are the rules that are in place for determining playoff teams. However, I hope they do some make some changes which would decrease the penalty for playing quality I-AA teams, allowing UND to play NDSU for a couple of more years without severely hurting the Sioux's playoff chances.
  20. From the NCAA rule book, http://www.ncaa.org/library/handbooks/foot...d2_football.pdf SSI is based on DII records only unless, unless there is a tiebreaker and secondary criteria need to be considered Teams will be selected based on a complete review of the following criteria: 1. Strength of Schedule
  21. Taylor said on the radio if NDSU is involved in a vote, He will step out and Mike Marcil (NCC commissioner) would take his place I am assuming something similar would happen with the MIAA schools, I think NDSU's chances are 50-50 at best, at least this should keep the interest up another day
  22. A little FYI Here is the Midwest Playoff Selection Committee Bob Boerigter, Northwest Missouri State University, chair Kevin Buisman, Minnesota State University Mankato Dave Herbster, Concordia University, St. Paul Mike Lockrem, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Gene Taylor, North Dakota State University Jerry Wollmering, Truman State University
  23. I expected a downward turn in NDSU attendance, but a crowd of 9,000 after three straight 14,000+ games was pretty disappointing. As far as AUGIE being UND's second highest attendance, well the game was early in the year and many people went to Grand Forks and saw a big tin building, assumed it was a Sam's Club, and went inside to do some "Back to School Shopping" and ended up watching a Sioux football game.
