  1. For everybody who mentioned 1993, thank you. I was 26 and graduated a couple of years earlier but came back to Grand Forks for that game because I had a gut feeling it was going to be the end of the streak. My gut was right and it is still the only game I've ever attended for any team where I rushed the field and was part of taking down the goal posts. Great memory.
  2. I don't doubt that in Iowa they would be called the Hawks because it's used like an abbreviation. But if you are almost anywhere else and say your favorite college team is the Hawks, you will likely be greeted with a blank stare.
  3. Thanks for telling me what I experience is wrong.
  4. Universally? That may be a bit of a stretch. I live in the Twin Cities and work with plenty of Iowa folks. I hear them say "Hawkeyes" much more often than "Hawks". But that's just my experience. They chant "Let's go Hawks" at games but other than that, it's pretty much Hawkeyes all the way.
  5. I see the overwhelming criticism is that the name isn't original enough. I can understand that to some degree. But the reality is that not only is UND the only "Fighting Hawks" out there, the other schools with "Hawks" as their name aren't exactly a who's who of college athletics. Just looking at D1 football and basketball programs, only Monmouth goes by "Hawks" in football (out of 253 FBS and FCS teams) and only Monmouth, University of Hartford, St. Josephs University and Maryland Eastern Shore go by "Hawks" in basketball (out of 351 D1 teams). In hockey there is the University of Miami Redhawks and the UMass Lowell River Hawks. There's definitely an opportunity to make this name our own. It's much more unique than Wildcats, Eagles, Tigers, etc. For the record, I never voted for Fighting Hawks as my choice. But it's done and it's time to move forward.
  6. I'll admit it. I was enjoying a little Schadenfreude over at Bisonville. Is that Bozo character real or a bit. I honestly can't tell. If it's a bit, it's hilarious. If he really means what he is putting out there, it's just embarassing.
  7. Might as well. It doesn't sound like he's doing much.
  8. Thanks. I'm following this on my iPod and this board is the only way I can get updates.
  9. I know this is asking a lot, but does anybody have an update in the game.
  10. keep the time updates coming. It helps.
  11. If they have any empty seats when leaving Grand Forks, I wonder if they could stop in the Twin Cities on the way through to pick up some UND fans that live down here.
  12. All together now: OVER-RATED. . . clap...clap...clap, clap, clap! OVER-RATED. . . clap...clap...clap, clap, clap! OVER-RATED. . . clap...clap...clap, clap, clap!
  13. Obviously we should play Notre Dame. It would be a guaranteed win for UND.
  14. Can somebody explain to me the logic behind the four year transition period that does not allow teams to play for NCAA national championships when moving from Division II to Division I? I could understand it if you are moving down divisions, but it seems to me if you are moving into "deeper waters" and meet all the individual criteria for making the playoffs such as a high enough number of like division wins, high enough ranking, etc. you should be able to play for the championship. As much as I love to hate NDSU, it kind of bugs me that their football team will be on the outside looking in come playoff time when they are arguably one of the top 2-3 1AA teams in the country. I fear that UND will be in the same exact boat in a couple of years.
  15. I'm just joining this party. What a game GO SIOUX!!
