  1. I don't think he has. If he is healthy, I really like that fourth line...tenacity
  2. My cable guide on the box was wrong last night and the internet was right...Fox College Sports Atlantic will have it tonight. Back to the call on the disallowed goal...Hak looked pi$$3ed too when the refs were explaining it to him. Bottom line, it was called a goal on the ice, and the overhead view didn't even show the puck contacting Frattin. A second angle that FSSN had showed that the puck rebounds off the Notre Dame goalie and bounces into either Frattin or he Notre Dame defenseman that was wearing him. It goes off someone and goes in...in reviewing it, I don't think Frattin saw it let alone kicked it. I can't tell if the puck is on the ice or in the air either... Another weekend in the WCHA, another bad call. There needs to be a bigtime housecleaning, and until that happens it will be more of the same. The woes continue here in Gopher land too...There is no way tDon comes back next year...I'd like the Sioux to put a nail in the coffin and sweep them up in GF in January.
  3. Game is getting pretty chippy...Notre Dame actually seemed to start getting cheap, and we started reciprocating
  4. We look much stronger on our skates...gotta believe that the other ND are getting their a$$es chewed and will look much different this period...big pp
  5. Disallowed goal was complete garbage. Absolutely ridiculous...SIoux DOMINATE the play and the refs don't want it to get "out of hand" freshly zambonied ice bodes well for a pp...a pp goal here is almost a nail in the coffin...one big shift here...
  6. That's just one measure, and you have to believe that those students who apply at Notre Dame have already self-selected out a lot of riff raff...if i remember correctly the admissions stats there are pretty sick...like top 5% in your class and 30+ ACT...not saying it is the greatest university in the world, but it is definitely top 20 in the nation. I'll razz 'em on a lot, but their academics are better than solid...
  7. This series has big time tourney ramifications. A Sioux sweep would give the Sioux a 3-0-0 record against Notre Dame and Alaska (#1 and #4 in the CCHA). Big for the PWR...
  8. Thanks for the post. Good Luck to you. I am looking forward to seeing the UNO squad and a good old fashioned uptempo horse race hockey game.
  9. Lapoint Simpson pairing scares me...especially with Eaves having the last line change...time to step up boys.
  10. Probably guilt for the massacre that happened in/around Mankato
  11. I dunno...a first round pick should mean that you've got the potential. I could see if it were one, but not when it is all 3 of our last highly drafted dmen. 3 out of 3 doesn't seem random...sample size is small, but it always will be. I agree that players get better, but do they get as good as they could be?
  12. I'd think that the poll writers and posters are has beens or never could bes, and I am playing D1 hockey, having the time of my life, getting a heavily discounted education, recreating with lovely co-eds, and all in all not giving a flying f about the opinion of someone that is nameless and faceless posting their worthless opinion on a web site for fans. These guys could care less...if you have that thin a skin as an 18-23 year old big-time college athlete, you've got issues...
  13. There are no "bad" players at this level, only bad systems or players and systems that don't mesh. UND has done really well developing forwards under Hak, but name a dman under Hak that has developed up to potential??? Chorney is the closest, but he is still in the minors and he was a second round pick Lee was a top 10 pick and has been up and down his whole career Finley, yeah he had injuries, but he was a first rounder who was playing in the east coast league last year. My point is that the Hakstol staff hasn't been great at developing dmen for the next level. Excellent at forwards, not real great at D. Odd considering Hak was a solid dman himself. It also begs the contention that if high end talent isn't developing, and we aren't winning titles, is the defensive coaching the missing ingredient? I am not throwing any coach or player under the bus, but contemplating this interesting set of circumstances that might be coincidental or might be contributory.
  14. Agree that it is apples and oranges, as it is any given night. I would contend that it is harder to fly up to Alaska and play vs have them come to town, so either way... I've referred to UMD as having a nice team, so I hope my comments are being construed as the ones you are describing. I think that they are good, but not great. They've won a lot of close games. I think that giving them credit as a team that can contend for the Mac Cup is fair, calling them the best team in the WCHA...kinda a stretch right now. It's too early to hang that moniker on anyone yet IMO. So, I'm with you on most of this...I'm curious to see Sconny this weekend...their style and the Kohl center doesn't bode well for us in general. The other team I am curious to see in Omaha.
  15. You can play the body on a loose puck. Two opposing players chasing the same loose puck can play the body rather than the puck. There is a gray area as to when it becomes interference based on difference/time until the puck could/will be played. 5 feet is a stride away, that to me is physical hockey and not interference.
  16. Wow...I hope what you were seeing isn't reflective of his attitude. I can see feeling that way as a pee wee or bantam, but not in a major DI college hockey program. You have to be a good teammate.
  17. If I'm not mistaken, Faulk also made a save himself, preventing the Sioux from taking the lead late in the third. Does anyone have video of that? I think that in the scrum the SIoux player got the shot away and Faulk got down and saved the goal. A little more on Faulk for our friend in Afghanistan, and I want to see how close we were to putting that in. As for the "finesse" game, the finesse looks prettier when players check. That was what was awesome about Oshie, one on one he could dangle or he could destroy. I do think the boys need a skating lesson...Frattin, Marto and Genoway can skate very well, and Gregoire did vs DU...the dcorps especially needs to work on the poise and control. The best way to keep poised is to outskate your opponent.
  18. How do you take a man off the puck or win a loose puck battle if you can't hit??? I really don't understand... The refs missed calls everywhere, then tried to do makeup calls. There was no consistency, and that is how guys get hurt. Sioux have to adapt and stay out of the box. We are a great team when we can roll four lines. We are not going to win #8 if we are battiling ourselves, the refs, and our opponent.
  19. Before anyone declares UMD worldbeaters, they should remember that the Dogs have already gone to OT 5 times this season. They have won 3 of those games and lost 0. They easily could've lost all 5 or more realistically gone 1-1-3 instead of 3-0-2 Before anyone declares UMD's topline the greatest ever, they should remember that the dogs have scored 24 of their goals in 4 games against Providence(2), LSSU, and UAA...not exactly the perrenial powers. The only one of those teams we played (UAA) we hung 5 on. They have a nice team, but listening to the postgame too, they are acting like the behind the back pass on a 2-1 with a trailer is the greatest thing ever...please...you should be able to execute a 2-1 with no pressure and the one dman stuck out of position. The powerplay goal on Friday night took better skill, precision, and execution. Back to the penalties...what is with this league? I don't blame officials for losses, but the interference call on Blood?? Was it borderline? Maybe based on reach to the puck, but you can play the body as you approach the puck, and Blood is a long guy. The non-call on Malone was blatent. Video shows the guy wrapping him up and pulling his jersey. The Lammy CFB...I dunno, again maybe...it wasn't like he crushed the guy. I don't know how you're supposed to play physical anymore. I just don't understand why they are pulling the contact out of the game. Makes me more sad than anything else.
  20. UMD is a solid, not great team. Their stats are misleading, as they they haven't exactly been playing the top tier teams prior to this weekend. Their first line is good, but it isn't th eDOT line or Money line. UND did not come out to play tonight and didn't deserve to win. I thought we were going to steal a game (for once) when UMD took it to us for the first 20 and we went into the locker room with a lead. The best was the exchange between Scanlon and Sweeney on the Blood interference penalty. Scanlon "That's too bad pat, I hate to say it, but they're almost taking checking out of the game." Sweeney "Like women's hockey then." We fans should really do something, like make a statement at the Final FIve...maybe all stand up at the same time and turn our backs to the rink for a minute in a show of frustration.
  21. Faulk played a solid game. He made one really nice play where he jumped up and gave the Dogs a chance. He also played with a little bit of a mean streak taking down Malone. He looks like a legit defenseman, but he is a long way from the NHL... My take on the game was that Duluth came out with a compete level of 9 and we had a 6. They out hustled and wreaked havoc all over the rink. They appeared to have the extra step tonight and it put us on our heels especially in our own zone. We scrambled a bunch, rarely attacked the neutral zone in a coordinated fashion. All defensemen with the exception of Blood looked like they were not ready to play tonight. This was a street fight, not a heavy weight bout...unfortunately Hockey East is better than anything in the WCHA I've seen so far this year. It is early in the year...we have a lot of work to do, and I am optimistic that the team that takes the ice in March and April will be much better than this one.
  22. Bulldogs with a lot of jump this first period. They have to be disappointed to come out of that period down a goal. They carried much of the play. They are clearly focused on pressuring our D in our own zone with a strong forecheck. It worked...as it generally does against our dcorps (we struggle when pressured). However, we come out up a goal. I didn't notice Faulk...seems like a real steady two way dman.
  23. I like the fact that both Kristo and Frattin have excellent speed. So many weapons and so many different skills...
