The Bubs-Stech celebratory hug was a pretty strong tell. He hugged the seniors, Stech, and LaDue a little extra...

Its not him, its the meth or maybe the crack talking...I know this is a low blow, but what a tool

I grew up running from the car parked on University Ave to the old Ralph with my dad in subzero temps. I saw legends as a boy growing up in GF in the 80's and was Doug Smail in my basement and Tony Hrkac at Cox park. The seed of Sioux hockey as family- the bond of being from NoDak- was planted. The TV contracts and advent of the Internet as well as an annual pilgrimage to St Paul and the Final Five while living in Minneapolis fostered the love, and built 15 years of hunger pangs. I watched this special team religiously on my Mac this year- with my little boy- and while the trek to the basement was not subzero, I watched s five year old be Brock Boeser and Drake Caggiula and Nick Schmaltz in the basement on the knee hockey net. Yesterday, I witnessed the next generation of Sioux Fan have the lifelong seed planted. Many wonder why we are such a passionate fan base- it's simple- we are a family- the Fighting Sioux hockey family. While my son has already started calling them the Hawks, the name isn't what's important. It's the family, and it's Sioux forever. What a year, what a ride; a legendary team. We celebrate the success as a family, and only as a family can. Enjoy this one, remember it, pass it on.

on LJ: drain it, flush it, inject it, he'll be good to go... The leg is a hell of a long way from the heart- Herb Brooks

ludes man...f'ing ludes

I was thinking that too...especially with a clear path to the head coach role not too far off in the distance

With last change, we should be able to roll out the heavy and the top 2 d-pairings vs Pacific Rim (assuming no penalty trouble). CBS will get a heavy dosage of Butcher's pair.

I assume they all take a multitude of bets...so I could bet the winner, the first goal, combined goals by period, over/under, etc? I am inexperienced in terms of sports betting, but I'd like to parlay a few things...putting $100 on the Sioux is kinda anti-climactic on its own...any books more likely to do that for a hockey a game? I would think they all would...the longer the odds the happier the casino

Looks like 5 former UND players will score 20+ NHL goals this year: Toews Nelson Oshie Parise Stafford
-
Are you going to gamble? I've been thinking a couple small bets and sitting at a sports book for free drinks- assuming the game would be on- at least at Ralph's old place! Importantly, I will only be there for Saturday...here's to beating DU!

I'd love to play a round at 9 over...

At this moment in time, I believe that Schmaltz > Connor...why? Nick Schmaltz is becoming a complete player at UND and he is older. Connor is more offensively gifted and has shown that. Nick will not be an 80 point player in the NHL, but I believe his development at UND will result in a 600+ game NHL career where he can be relied upon to be a 10-15 goal, 40 point a year player. He will play both ends of the ice and be a solid player at the highest level of hockey.

On all +/- remember there are dmen with coverage and a goalie out there too... To state that the CCM line is not high-end is simply ignorant. Those guys are skilled. So are our guys...we won the game.

my little boy (5 years old) made a video playing knee hockey for "mr. Oshie" my little guy is showing his moves in a Fighting Sioux jersey...anybody know anyway that I can send it to Osh...I don't ask for anything, I just think its cool- especially since we were in Minny and now live in Seattle (Tj's old stomping grounds). If you know how I can get it to him, please pm me...I am not a weirdo fan, I have personal relationships from way back with a few guys who made it to the show.

Kristo is one of those guys that plays a top 6 game, but doesn't have NHL top 6 skill...he needs to bring something other than speed and a good shot. With 30 NHL teams, there are only 120 top 6 wing jobs out there, and everyone can play...If you assume that NHL age is really only about a 12 year span from 20-32 with outliers on either end, that means you have to be one of the 10 best scoring wingers in world your age (averages again)...now factor in what hand your shot is, and while you can play your off-wing, most don't...Danny is that guy who might end up crushing in the KHL...he's right at that bubble. See Brandon Bochenski...

Agree, CBS and Pacific Rim both have offensively gifted players who work hard on both the forecheck and in the dzone. CCM wanted to carry the puck through the neutral zone and attack the o zone with speed and puck on stick. Fun hockey to watch when it works, but very easily disrupted by a strong defensive team. CBS is dynamic when they get to carry the puck into the zone, but they are also dynamic working the puck down low and pursuing pucks and puck carriers.

huge loss for them

The only counter argument that I can think of is that you'd want to start your RFA clock and get off your rookie deal as soon as possible. That has a lot of assumptions though...preeminently that you will be in the NHL in 2-3 years max
-
The argument for not signing is based on readiness. If you are marginal for making the big squad, you should stay in college. The money will be there next year. Oshie certainly could've left after 2 years, was a first rounder, but he would've wound up playing a year in the AHL...almost certainly. He got the same money the next year and didn't spend a minute on the bus. Nelson spent his whole first year pro in the AHL. Remember what a $270k signing bonus turns into after your agent, accountant, and tax bill...your putting $140k or so in your bank account. Time value of that for a year assuming 5% net return is $7000. Now, if your family is in serious need or something I totally get taking the money, but if your family is fine and you are on a full-ride at UND...what's $7k worth??? If you're playing in the W and have given up your amateur, then you sign the minute the offer is there.
-
His signing bonus, according to the league records, was a rookie max deal of $270k...not bad, but not half a mil...about half of a half mil...subsequently, he signed a 3 year second deal worth an average of $2.5 per, so it worked out, but his rookie signing bonus wasn't staggering

Fratty hit the crossbar on a clean look early in that one...and Chay had the goalie 10-15 feet out of the net and moving laterally and the tendy fell backwards and saved the shot with his falling arse
-
Yep, and they got shut out for only the second time all season in that game...pumped 40 shots on goal and couldn't get one to go...that empty netter to ice it was just depressing.

me too- I should've bet in Vegas
