On GPL, Veegs predicted 4-3, Gophers in double overtime.

Let’s see if Penn State goes up by five or more if Guy sends his number one power play unit out there with five minutes to play like he did a few weeks ago against Ohio State.

4-0 Nittany Lions now.

I liked what Carle said on many fronts but a comment he made regarding signing kids out of the professional ranks stood out to me. I think he called it ludicrous. He didn’t name schools but CC jumped out to me as Mayotte went out and plucked Mats Lindgren from the ECHL (56 games with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers along with a small number of AHL game experience). Lindgren was easily CC’s best player in the short amount of time he played with the Tigers. I have mixed feelings about allowing this-on one hand as a fan, I was happy Mayotte went out to find a capable replacement for Burkholder but on the other, it just doesn’t sit right with me that we have players with professional experience dropping down to the college ranks. I believe Omaha went out during the break as well and got a guy with professional experience at the holiday break.

I’m no Gavyn Thoreson fan but it sure looked like Kleber hooked the heck out of him on that late third period break away; no call. Coach Larson was hot at the conclusion of the game.

Dane Jackson said in his post game press conference that he was going to give the boys a few days of relaxation and fun before resetting for the next round. Wonder if he’d get the boys on a bus this morning and head on down to Sioux Falls to cheer on the men’s basketball team?
-
Yah, it wasn’t a smart play. CC iced the puck and the play was whistled dead so not sure why he did it.

Form a conference now with Maryville going D-I. Alaska, Anchorage, Lindenwood, Stonehill, Long Island, and Maryville. Six team conference gets you an auto bid into the tournament.

I’ve watched the play several times and it did look like Mrsic for CC pulled the Bronco player down even though they both were tangled together and simultaneously fell. I don’t know the rule well enough but it’s a tough way to see your season end. Also, seeing Mbereko look on as his college career comes to an end is difficult.

Very true. Last year, CC had to travel to Denver for the first round quarterfinals. The Tigers won a closely contested first game, 3-1, with Denver outmatching CC on Saturday, winning 6-4. Kaidan Mbereko left game two with an injury and that might have taken the air out of the sails for CC as they appeared to have nothing left in the tank, getting smoked on Sunday, 9-2 with little used Carsen Musser in net.

Didn’t he go on and on at last year’s NCHC awards ceremony about contributing to the legacy of UND hockey, being among the greats in the concourse, etc.?

I listened to Woden’s interview with Carle this past summer and it was the same exact thing-Carle was the cat toying with Woden the injured mouse. Absolutely stole Woden’s lunch money during their debate.

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
Godsmack replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Agreed but nice to see those prima donnas of ASU sent home packing. -
More so about UND but yah, happy for th e fellas, especially Mbereko. He seems to have found his game, he made some incredible saves in a game where Duluth really controlled play.
-
Right on thanks! I won’t lie ladies and gents, I’ve been nervous about tonight’s game all day and during the game. So glad the fellas clinched the Penne Rosa tonight!
-
Hopefully a UND fan at the game takes a video of the presentation and posts it somewhere on here!

I was getting my skates sharpened one day at Players Bench and the manager, who was a DU alum, brought out a shirt from the back that he’d made to show me. It said, CC: Constantly Choking since 1957. All I could do was laugh, it was pretty darn clever!

Do you know any names of players who may not have made the cut for USA (or Canada for that matter)? Just curious.
-
Ha ha! That’s classic!

I’m sure there’s a lot of talk about the missed call on the two many men on the ice by the U.S. but as Frank Serratore famously said in a post game interview following being tossed by the refs for clapping, if you look hard enough, you can find missed calls on just about every shift.

Redemption a bit for Connor Hellebuyck given his NHL playoff struggles. So dang proud of the guy. He played the game of his life out there.
-
Pure class by him. He kept the focus on his team and country.

They honored the two remaining seniors, Ryan Alexander (an ASU transfer this year) and Kaidan Mbereko, along with former Tigers Noah Laba and Gleb Veremyev who recently earned their degrees while playing professionally. The announcer mentioned Mbereko’s 43 saves against North Dakota in a game back in 2024. He truly was and is a special player here at CC. Not only was he the NCHC goaltender of the year and first team all-American his sophomore season, he’s just an all around great kid and ambassador of the program. So good with the fans and kiddos.

CC outshot Western by a wide margin in the first and third periods but Western outshot CC by a wide margin in the second. Mayotte was pleased with his team’s response in the third period. Slukinsky made some big saves in the third, particularly during that late game power play CC got.

Gotta get Unger his reps but at this stretch I’d be going with the more experienced Mbereko. I’m wondering if Mbereko has been dealing with a nagging injury the last few weeks as well. He left that Saturday UND game rather abruptly midway through the third period and I didn’t have the impression it was due to poor play. Unger gave up 6 goals on Friday at St. Cloud but man, his teammates certainly didn’t give him much help. They looked much better defensively on Saturday.
