It looked like it was some sort of skate issue. Ref finally had enough and gestured to the ASU bench to get another goalie in there.

And just like that, it’s 5-2 ASU. 5 goals on 16 shots chased Mbereko. He saves his great games for UND. ASU 3 for 3 on the power play.

If I were an Omaha season ticket holder, I might consider dropping my tickets.

Thanks a lot Omaha. No help from you.

5 for fighting? Wait, isn’t that a band from the early 2000’s?

Well, I’m one of them! Just got billed for the most recent month. The UND hockey coverage in the Herald is second to none.

One of my favorite road trips was last year to Kalamazoo. At my own peril, I walked over to the outside door where the Lawson Lunatics stand in line to get in a few hours before the game and chatted it up with a bunch of Broncos fans. I was wearing my UND jersey. They all hazed me pretty good but it was all in good fun. Went to the Library Kitchen & Taphouse Friday night and met some cool UND and Western fans.

The newest College Hockey Today podcast is now posted. Schlossman mentioned that his car wouldn’t start when he returned to the Grand Forks airport. I’m a little surprised he doesn’t take an Uber or cab on the Herald’s dime to avoid such situations happening in the cold weather.

I saw Frank speak at Sioux boosters for the ice breaker tournament in 2012, I think. He had the room in stitches and poor Dave Hakstol had to follow him. Even Hak joked how the heck he could keep up with Frank. Frank talked about a kid who had torched UND one game and after the game while having dinner at the John Barleycorn, according to Frank, he reminded Dean Blais how he (Blais) had passed on this recruit that Frank really liked. So Blaiser jumped across the table and punched Frank in the head leaving an imprint of one of Blais’s national championship rings in his head. Just classic, hilarious stuff. This boosters luncheon went down with one from the late 90’s with the elder Marvin who was cracking jokes left and right at Doug Woog’s expense as two of the best I ever attended.

Years ago, at Magness, Frank Serratore got Tee’d up for sarcastically clapping after the WCHA refs called about the seventh or eighth power play for DU compared to Air Force’s one. Refs tossed Frank from the game and he went on to give one of the funniest post game interviews I’ve ever seen! He said he’d never met the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, nor a Ref who’d ever admitted he had a bad game. Classic stuff. It’s out there on YouTube.

If memory serves, the Hale brothers are from Colorado Springs originally so there is that connection to CC.

Johnny Walker, Jarid Lukosevicious, and Ben Blood are some of my favorite names from college hockey.

Better yet, why was a bench minor called on Powers?

So why did Powers get tossed?

The last two minutes of a basketball game I usually take upwards of 20 minutes.

Was it a face mask though? When I saw it, it simply looked like our guy using his hand to fend off an irate ASU player who kept coming at him. Looked to me like our guy was using his hand to push back the opposing player.

I was only able to catch the third period and as annoyed as I was getting listening to the harping about the hit on the ASU player, those announcers did comment how the score was what it was not because of the officiating. That and the things you cited definitely give their announcers their due. Watching the CC game, the Omaha announcers crack me up. Talk about captain obvious. Not a whole lot of interesting insight other than just stating the obvious out there.

Asking around if anyone in the GF area knows if tonight’s game will be televised?

He sold it well too. Sprawled out on the ice not moving and then gets up and gets into a shoving match with our guy before skating off.

Excellent post. Well said. I’d also add, having better situational awareness during that late power play. You know Waldron is going to be coming back onto the ice from the penalty box at any moment. Maybe the D or at least one of them pull back a little off the blue line to keep an eye on the guy looking to be sprung on a break away. I know, easy for me to say watching from my couch but just an observation. The forwards too, maybe try just eating the puck in the ASU corner there as the penalty is winding down instead of being so aggressive. I won’t lie, I was pretty nervous when ASU cut it to 6-4. Had no idea how those last 3 minutes would play out.

Sometimes he sounds more like how a fan sitting in the stands would with all of his emphatic gestures and reactions, (such as, “GET IT! OOOH! etc.). I will say it’s grown on me simply because I’ve listened to his game calls so much it’s come to be expected.

Boisvert might find himself in a scrap with a bigger, tougher dude once he moves up to the professional ranks. Boy, wherever he goes, trouble seems to find him.
